Does Anyone Think The New Public Discount Stinks?????

Disney released a new discount for the summer months of up to 30%. In my opinion, it stinks. Don't you think they can offer a larger percentage? Let me know what your opinion is.

Honestly I think it's nice of them to offer a summer discount. The first year we went there were no discounts avaliable so we paid full price. Any discount to me is great, sure I will hope that a wonderful one comes along but am happy to not have to pay full price. They had a few other summer offers that seemed better already this is the 3rd or 4th summer offer avaliable.

I was so glad that I booked with the first offer for our July trip. I am very happy with 35 percent off! So glad I did not wait :)

I think this is what Disney meant by "scaling back" on the discounts. There was a time when there weren't any discounts so I think people should be thankful they are getting anything off at all.

I do think Disney resorts are overpriced and should lower their rates, but I'm not sure that will ever happen.

I think any discount is better than no discount at all.

We've been going to WDW with our kids since 1980 and there were no discounts for years. People have become accustomed to them and expect them. IMO, Disney slid down the slippery slope because it will be hard for them to cut them out and avoid angering many potential and exisitng customers.

This is so true. Our first trip as a family was as recently as July 2008...and guess what, there were NO discounts! We used AAA to book so we at least got 15% off our room.

However, I think it was that fall when the slew of discounts began emerging. We returned in March 2010 with the buy 4/get 3 deal which was a much better deal! We basically paid value season prices during peak season. There was also a bounceback in our room for 40% off if we booked a return trip, which financially we were unable to do.

Disney visitors have become spoiled with deals like 4/3, free dining and 40% off. And Disney should be concerned -- it will be hard for people to justify ponying up and paying full price, even if that's what they did for so many years, because all they will be able to remember are the great deals they got at one time.

When I look at the cost of staying in a deluxe resort now, and then take the 30% off, yeah it looks like a bad deal. But I think the problem is that, first of all, they've been discounting things so heavily in the past year or two that I'm expecting a lot more out of Disney than I really should. Years ago when we stayed at the Poly, CR, etc I'm pretty sure we stayed on a 30% off (or thereabouts) discount and thought we were getting a great deal. Now, added to that for ME is that those resorts are a lot more than what they were 8 years ago .

Now 15% off a value... yeah, that's not going to entice me to go.

The 15/20/30 isn't going to make me go WOW, I should go to Disney. If I'm already going, I'll be happy to get that discount if nothing else is available... but if they're trying to fill empty rooms with people not already planning trips, they might need to come up with something better than that.

I agree the newest summer deal stinks, especially for values. However, there were many other offers for summer that were pretty darn good. Sadly though, booking dates already expired for those. Plus word is that there will be another one out with limited dates soon. So what I think really stinks is that summer got like 5 different offers and I still haven't gotten one. :rotfl: I don't arrive until Aug 13TH and am not on a package until the 15TH, so nothing has been offered at all for us yet.

I got it as a pin for our Sept trip and it's saving us $1100.

I'm right there with you, our trip begins on the 22nd and we have NO DISCOUNT at all :scared1:. It seems so weird that there would be all of these good deals out there for up to 8/15 and nothing after (for the GP). I kind of wish now that we had picked June and booked while the discounts were still there (we were looking at June vs August).

The one thing I'm glad about is that we had already decided to drive because if I was watching airfare rise as I was waiting for a discount, I'd really be going over the deep end. At least now I can be a little bit flexible about my dates if a "deal" comes along.

My biggest problem is we booked airfare and are locked into our dates. We did consider June too, but now it is too late without paying penalties on airfare which I won't do. If only I chose June. :headache:

Same here! I would be upset if I had waited.

I think we'll be at the Boardwalk at the same time!

I'm actually glad to get 35% off, last summer I paid $254 a night for BC with a code, this summer it was $221. :thumbsup2

I was lucky enough to get a PIN that covers our dates in late August, and it's a better deal than the current public discount...but I suppose any discount is better than no discount at all. Disney is a business at the end of the day. They do what works best for them business wise. I remember back in the summer of 2006 when I first discovered the Dis! i discovered a thing called "Free Dining"...appetizers, entree, dessert, tip included...WOW. Now that was fabulous. A lot of food...but awesome. It was my honeymoon and the extra cash saved was nice. Things have changed a lot since then...but it's still Disney. I will always go...regardless of the discounts being offered. It's Disney I'm addicted to, that I love...not the discounts. Those are nice, but definitely not the reason I go.

Love my Disney.

Our first trip in 2002 we got no discount in 2004 we got a small one (I'm thinking 10% off value room), so I know its a great deal to get the discounts (and have taken advantage of them time and time again), but they are not guaranteed. If Disney is going to offer a 'discount' all the time then why not just drop thier regular prices all the time, I think we have gotten a little spoiled by all the great discounts of years past.

That being said I think the current discount isn't all that, but thats another reason we buy AP's, better room discounts!

When we went in the past, Disney also did not have "summer rates" that were so much higher than regular rates, either. Now, the discounts barely make up for the increased summer rates.

This is very true!!They thought they would jack up the prices during their busiest seasons, but I guess it was a failure because now they have had to do deep discounts to get the #'s up.

I was just thinking the same thing about how this promotion stinks!! Just a couple of days ago another promotion ended that was for the same dates but was better. I'm glad I booked that as a back up!!!

I am like alot of others that have been posting, in that I am waiting for discounts for 8/15 and later......... :confused3 As long as I have a back up plan I will have patience:rolleyes1.................COME ON FREE DINING:banana:
