lower the cost per point to buy into the DVC? After another bad day on Wall St. I am beginning to wonder what Disney would do if the economy got really bad and people just weren't buying into the resorts as much as they would like us to. Maybe they would just offer better incentives to buy(kind of what they do at Vero). Any opinions?

Based on the fact that there is no (or at least much less than in the past)DVC properties available on the secondary markets and the fact that Disney is reducing the Magic Beginnings promotion and finally that they are selling a new resort followed by another one - <whew> I can't see any price reductions until the economy really takes a dive. And let's hope we've already seen a good portion of the dive.

No, I don't think that Disney will lower the price per point. Although the stock market has taken a dive and we're hearing that there's a one-in-three chance that we'll tumble into recession, there is still lots of cash on the sidelines. TONS of cash. All that money being pulled out of the market isn't all going into bonds.

Also, housing starts are up and with the fed dropping rates, lots and lots of folks are refinancing their mortgages or going for home equity loans. The people who are "re-fying" may also be pulling equity out of their homes. So there's lots of cash out there.

If sales slow down you may see Disney go back to offering 10 bucks a point for their Magical Beginnings program, but that's it. They *just* changed that to only 5 bucks a point but raised the length of time to one year's worth of points. That benefits them for sure. For that say, 150 point contract they'll take the $750 that they "paid" you as a new member and make *way* more selling those nights that you gave back. It's a bad deal for what they're offering right now. I'd pass on it for sure.

The market will go up. Life goes in cycles. Enjoy your family and DVC and wait for the tide to change. The market is subject to mass psychology. There has always been wealth in the world and it is drawn to quality. Disney has provided quality for over half a century.

I am digging deep into my memory. Not just DVC but Disney as a whole. I am going back as far as I can possbily remember, many, many, many, many years ago. It is a little hazy but it is all coming back slowly but surely.... Nope! Disney has never lowered its price on anything.?

Before we joined the DVC, we did the vacation plan where you send them lots of money before you go and Then dodn't pay for much when you get there. Each time the price increased and what you recieved decreased. No I do not think they will lower the price. People will pay.

I think Disney would be much more likely to just stop building DVC resorts than to lower their developer price on points. Then they may also freeze or reduce the buy-back price or even stop buying any back. This will probably be irrelevant for another decade or so, given that the leasehold contract expiration date (Jan 2042) is still pretty far off.

If you are looking for a bargain, look for a really good resale and be patient while you save up toward it. In doing so, you may get more points. :)
