I was thinking of taking my 15 year old daughter and some of her friends with me next year to WDW 2013 and they can volunteer while I run. Does anyone else do that?

It sounds like a good thing for them to do.
The minimum age is 15, with parental consent. Volunteer registration fills early. You need your own transportation to the Volunteer sign-in tents. Many positions require sign-in at Wide World of Sports. There is no early morning 'Disney' transportation to WWoS Saturday, and none on Sunday. Shifts can start as early as 2:00 a.m. Race Day positions offer the best perks/rewards. In the past this has included a one day theme park ticket, and Volunteer Jacket and a box breakfast/snack. Shifts can be cold and wet.

Here is the princess 1/2 volunteer registration page. The marathon will be similar.
