I pay $100 a mth for my Topamax now...it would go to $30 if I used generic. Anyone using it for migraines? Work just as well?

I've been using using the generic since it came out and haven't noticed a difference except for the price.

One of my workmates also switched to the generic (we both take it for migraines) and she hasn't noticed a difference either.

I take it too but I am sooo ready to get off of it .... I hate it with a passion. I forget everything feel really airheaded :rotfl:

That's how I feel on it all the time, but now for less!:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

That's why it's jokingly referred to as Dopamax. I went off of it because of the side effects. I'd rather have the migraine.

Personally, I would not take the generic. My friend takes the brand and she tried the generic and it did not work quite as well. You might ask your doctor for a script so you can try a 30 day trial of generic and see if you prefer it.

I don't understand. If the generic is the same chemical formula, why would it work any differently?

I take the generic Topamax and have felt no difference other than, like another poster said, the price. I was thrilled when they came out with a generic version and could save a little money on this expensive product!!

Thanks everyone! I know it SHOULD work the same, but I've read a few opinions online saying it didn't...glad most of you had no issues.

The inactive ingredients sometimes affect the way a med works.

Call me cynical, but just the difference in size makes me leery (or else my pharmacy gave me the wrong prescription :rotfl2: )

My daughter takes the generic... one month the pills looked one way and the next month they looked different. I guess it depends on which manufacturer of the generic we get each month.

I had to switch to the generic when it came out because my insurance refused to cover the good stuff. I absolutely hate it! I have all of the "Dopamax" side effects that I never had with the brand name. One morning I got off the subway like normal and somehow got lost instead of getting to work. I knew where I was but I couldn't figure out how to get to work. It was 45 minutes before I was able to figure out where I was. And I'm getting bad breakthrough migraines that I wasn't getting on the name brand stuff.

wow, what dosage?

50 mg, morning and night

Of course, I still haven't found that weight loss side effect!

Do you mean 50 in a.m. and 50 again at night, so 100 total? If I take it in morning I am KNOCKED OUT, must take at bedtime. I am on 75 right now.

I'm sorry to hear that but you are doing great on your weight loss efforts! :woohoo:

My 12 year old daughter who is taking Topomax only weighed about 97 pounds when she started and now she's down to 92. Ohhh... I was so tempted to take some of her pills!
