Does anyone report when things in their villas are in disrepair or need cleaning?

Owners have a vested interest and I think tend to report these types of things. Renters or non owners do not, and I think would be more inclined to not report.

As it is, Housekeeping has a hard time (with their given staff) to just get the villas cleaned in time for 4 pm check in. If another checklist were added for maintenance issues, I suspect we would be checking in even much later, perhaps 5 or 6 pm.

I know we budget for Maintenance, but to have staff go through more often would probably cost us more in dues. I try to think of it like a primary home - everything is not perfect, and there is always maintenance needing to be done. If it were as bad as the OP described in my unit, I probably would call right after checking in and ask to be placed in another villa.

JMHO. :)

Agreed. And when we find items needing attention and don't need to be taken care of immediately, we will inform management of the need and let them know when we will be checking out so they can schedule accordingly. As always, we try to leave the room as early as possible to give MK and engineering opportunity to get the room ready ASAP.

I'm not so sure about the non owners. When we're staying at a DVC resort, I'd like to think we all care equally about the resort, whether it's our home or not. Maybe rose colored glasses here, but to me I own DVC, not just at certain resorts. Theoretically, everyone should feel that way.

As a non-owner I would definitely report a problem if there was one. We want to stay in nice, quality surroundings. I don't think having a "vested interest" has anything to do with it.

We just returned from SSR. We exchanged our time share through RCI. There were no problems with our room and we had a great time. I would hope that whomever is staying in my timeshare would report if there are problems so they can be fixed.

We always report problems. Housekeeping is a joke since WDW outsourced the service. We have had some disgustingly filthy rooms in the past and I have made the housekeeping manager join me in my room so that I may point them out to him. Dirty dishes, rusted cooking utensils and pans, melted cheese hanging from the back of the oven, leftover food in the fridge and cupboards, smashed crackers on the floor, dirty clothes left behind, etc. WDW gets away with it because many people don't complain, or don't care. Housekeeping has always recleaned the room so that it is spotless, but I shouldn't have to take my vacation time to make sure they do their job.

As far as broken items, the same thing applies. DVC will always fix things if they are reported.

We usually do a once over when we arrive too, and if anything is obvious, we have it taken care of. I also report things when I leave. I agree that housekeeping is getting much worse at all DVC locations. NOT very Disney anymore in that department.

We do a little of report now and report later. Most things, we report immediately. We also keep a list of things that can wait and hand it to the manager on duty when we check out.

The problem is that Disney doesn't care. If they did, steps would be taken so that these types of problems don't occur each visit.

If you don't like the way DVC runs the business, what are you going to do, not go to WDW and stay home while still paying your dues? Sell your contracts to someone else? Disney knows that they have a captive owner base and walks the line between fixing the problems and raising our dues, or keeping the dues low to attract additional sales.

I guess it's cheaper to give us compensation like free dinners and gift cards instead of doing the job correctly. :sad2:

Most definitely. We report items to be fixed as well. We as owners must keep an eye out for things which are amiss.

I believe the same, with the dues and costs, the rooms should be checked quarterly. We have had the same issues and call. All our requests have been fixed pretty quickly. Things like bulbs out and dirty towel piles drive me nuts...how doesn't the housekeeper notice those things?

Our stove was unbalanced and rocked quite a bit at BLT. My husband fixed it in less than a minute but I wonder if it was like that since opening.

Sounds like my husband. He's a contractor and he has may alot of the minor repairs like tightening handles or cleaning vents for me that are too dusty. Heck, he even gets a wash cloth and cleans the top of the fan blades (they're always dusty).

We do report the bigger jobs, like the diswasher door that kept falling open on us. Or last month at the BCV when a guest prior must've poor bacon grease in the kitchen sink because it smelled like bacon everytime we ran the water. (My DH heated some water in the microwave and poored it in the sink and the smell went away.) (We wondered how the pumbing was in that person's house.)

that is never going to happen. they are short handled in the first place.

disney really needs to change it policy. since these things are happening again - sounds like they are not changing the keys until the new member (or guest) check in.

this was a big problem for a while - and guess it is started again.

Housekeeping does not have the time (or in many cases the language) - nor is there job. they are there to clean the room. Many times they assume someone has check out in fact these people have not and will come back to the room before leaving. lots of these messes are because of these people.

when OKW was new it had so many problems. It took them time to fix it. the only DVC resort that I have trouble getting them to fix things is BCV. really couldn't believe the maintence guy - he was saying (implying) that it was my fault..... anyway he did finally understand it was not my fault and they did (FINALLY) fix the problem.

some of this is Disney is NOT training the out source people. they definitely don't have the Disney attitude. and if you start complaining enough - maybe disney will quit out sourcing the maid service.

I am a new DVC member and have only stayed twice thus far. Once was great (clean) and the other not so much. Are the rooms for the most part in good order and clean? Thanks.

I know we've mentioned this numerous times to both mousekeeping, management & engineering & I'm sure we're not alone.

When we spoke with the OKW manager on duty at one point he said, "Please write a letter voicing your concerns." Our thoughts are that they know they are short handed in their staff & that things are not being taken care of that should be & that by writing letters to upper management maybe they will see that something needs to change.

That is a great idea..maybe DVCers should start a campaign writing to MS suggesting this..it would be very helpful all around. I know an onslaught works..I was here during the great studio mug debacle.. :)

WHOA!!! So the mousekeepers are out-sourced too??? What about maintenance?

FYI, when you find issues not related to cleaning, you need to call maintenance NOT housekeeping.

I use to call, but now I actually go and report things to the manager on duty, face to face. I've never had to be moved but upon initial inspection if I found the room in the condition you found yours, I would have immediately returned to MS and requested it. This Jun at BWV the room was spot on, well apointed and clean except for this smell & little flies. We finally identified it to be coming from the disposal, I popped into the hall, found housekeeping asked for bleach, and I took care of it myself, something minor I don't mind taking care of, but I bought into DVC not Motel 6, so I'm not staying in a dirty, run down room.

On our most recent trip this month, we found that the leg on the coffee table was falling off (literally not connected to the table, just propped up). I reported it immediately but asked that it be fixed after we left, it just wasn't a big deal for us.

I guess it's wishful thinking that the ones who broke the leg would have called to have it repaired rather than leaving it for the next person to find. That's a big part of the problem.

Or maybe they did call, but the problems were not resolved between one guest and the next.

If the issue is bothering me, we report it during our stay. If it isn't, I don't want maintenance in my room for something that isn't bothering me, we report it when we check out. If they don't get the problem resolved between our check out and someone else's check in, it becomes someone else's problem.

they got out sourced when they no longer spoke English. Now at least some of them do.

maintence to my knowledge is still disney.

When we were at OKW in December the hairdryer didn't work. I plugged it into another receptacle and it worked find. I called maintenance to let them know the ground fault wasn't working and refused to reset. They sent maintenance over immediately and it was fixed. In fact they noticed a couple of other things we didn't catch and took care of them immediately. Other than that all of our visits have been without a hitch. :goodvibes
