Does anyone remember

River Country! I have more vivid memories of that at age 6 than of MK, I think. First waterpark I'd ever seen! Other favorite was Discovery Island. I got to hold something of a bird (don't even remember what it was).

I remember being freaked out going underwater at 20000 Leagues and my dad trying to rationalize we weren't really underwater.

The nickelodeans on Main St (in a theatre?) with the flip book like cartoons.

My other strong memory is of the movie at Ft Wilderness. First time I saw 101 Dalmations. It was a treat that program is still there... and it was 101 Dalmations showing first time we brought DS.

So the question is, are children able to ever run freely around the Treehouse anymore? Do children even CARE about the Treehouse anymore?

When we were there last year, my kids and my neice/nephew went through it several times while the grown ups relaxed on the bench. (We did it the first time, but didn't need to do it 20 times, lol)

Trip before that, it was pouring rain, and the 2 oldest kids insisted on going to the treehouse!

I remember my mom heading to the Town Hall to get us seats for the Diamond Horseshoe Review while the rest of us did the Space Mountain Marathon & went on it at least 3 times that am.

I remember Space Mountain when it sat 8 people per 2 cars.

I remember If you Had wings & us kids would go on it over & over & over again while our parents rested (this was at night).

I remember the parks being open until 12am or 1am & me staying at the park until that time & then getting up in the am to be in the park before opening.

I remember River Country & I bet there is a $20 bill in the dirt there from my cousins cousin.

I remember the Make your Own Pizza place in Fort Wilderness.

I remember brunch at the top of the CR.

Most of all I remember the fun times I had going there as a kid. I am 37 (will be 38 in October as will WDW). But in the 80's we'd go with my moms cousin & her son was my age & then their cousins. So 4 of us would hang out together. We got to roam the parks alone once we got to a certain age. We would watch Illuminations & make a plan to ask our parents if we could go back to the MK for the night & they always said yes. Ahh...those were the days....

I too have one of the old partially used book of A-E tickets and my favorite ride was "If I had Wings"

But what noone else mentioned was:

I remember the Orlando airport in 1972....you walked onto the tarmak to board your plane. We had one of those planes that had the big yellow sun with a womens name on the side which was supposed to be the head stewardesses name that was on that plane (don't know if that story is really true but that's what we had been told). I have a pic somewhere in my stash.

I remember going to Communicore in Epcot early in the morning to make dining reservations. You video conferenced with a live person and could get a table at just about any Epcot restaurant on THE SAME DAY as long as you were early enough.

I vividly remember my Mom racing there as soon as we entered EPCOT.

Hoizons (I loved that ride), Journy into Imagination, the Michael Jackson 3D movie.

Tickets that didn't expire - the ones with the stamps. My grandparents would buy the longest length ones and anyone who came to visit would use them.

the Golf Resort which became the Disney Inn and then Shades of Green (military only)

I remember having breakfast at the Tangarora terrace when we stayed at the Poly.

I remember the water pageant that went by the beach at the Poly every night.

I remember watching the MK fireworks from the Poly Beach or from the observation deck of the Contemporary.

I remember eating at the Steerman's Quarter, the Fisherman's Deck and the Empress Lily and having wonderfull food and stellar service.

I remember the Disney Village marketplace and still have the hand made mugs I bought there!

I remember when Shades of Green was the NEW GOLF HOTEL at disney and my dad dragged us there. (I remember it as dark and it opened to the outside and we had a bunch of bugs there! the original love bugs)

I remember when dining in EPCOT meant talking to a person on a TV under spaceship earth.

I remember when an E ticket was better than a golden ticket!

I remember when you had to wait in line- no fastpass

I remember the bucket ride(sky ride)

I remember when mickey wasn't so polished

If I can find the picture to prove it I'll scan it in here.

Oh and I remember thinking River Country was the best place in the world.
And I even remember the lunch we had that first magical water park day- Hot Dogs! in the sand.

I remember having to have a bus pass to get on and ride.

I remember Captian Cooks Hide-A-Way and the wonderful entertainment they had in the evenings

I remember 1976 and the July 4th celebration with Starland Vocal Band, the Spinners, the O Jays and others that played

I also remember Michael Iceberg, the walk through adventure at Cinderella's Castle, Mickeys Magic shop, The Disneyana shop in Fantasyland, 20,000 Leagues, the Skyway, the Carousel of Progress with "Now is the Time" as the theme song and America Sings

My first trip was in 1986. Stayed at the Howard Johnson there on hotel row thats on the propery by whats now DTD.
Remember; When the hotels by DTD used to have Disney buses.
The Keel boats that were on the river, along with the little touches like the burning cabin.
Remember Main Street when it was a true main street with seperate shops. Remember the arcade with all the old machines & when the movie theatre was really a small movie theater.
Remember when the visitors were so much more laid back, sing alongs on the buses at night & when asked whats your favorite saying everyone chiming in "Please no flash photography".
Remember when everyone had to take either the monorail or ferry to the MK.
If youre in a antique shop or see a post card show look for disney cards. Theres lots of old cards out there & not very expensive showing some of these rides. I even came across a few with artists conceptions of rides saying Opening in .... sort of neat things.

I remember my first charaster breakfast On the Empress Lily...I still have the certificate with Mickey, Minnie, Donald and Pluto's autographs!

I remember the Luau and how the greeters hugged and kissed you on the cheek while they were putting the lei around you neck.

I remember the wonderfull breakfast buffet at the Trophy Room

I remember the Top of the World and the big bands that entertained during dinner.

I remember bowling at the Contemporary

I remember the Marshmallow Marsh at the Fort Wilderness campground

The Sara Lee bakeshop on Main Street
