Does anyone remember this ride from Epcot?

When I was 14 years old (so 13 years ago) my uncle took me to DW. I really loved a ride at Epcot, but could not find it last year when we were there. It was a slow moving ride in the dark as you passed one window after another. It seemed to be about the future. In one window a person was talking on the "phone", but actually talking to a tv screen and she could see the person she was talking to. Does anyone remember what ride I am talking about?

Possibly Horizons? That was knocked down to make Mission Space I think.

There is something like that when going through the ending of Space Mountain as well.....but you are standing on a moving walkway.

It sounds like the end of spaceship earth when the mom is singing to her child over the video phone.

Definatly spaceship earth !!!! Back when I went in 89, it had a mother in space making supper and the kids and even the dog was floating. This scene is not there anymore, but the ride is still a disney must to me !!!! You go through space mountain and see the stars !!! Its awesome! I think this is what you are talking about :)

Pretty sure that was Horizons. Do you remember the smell of oranges at one point as you looked out over a 'grove' of them? It also sounds like the ride down at the end of Spaceship Earth-there's definitely that scene there today.

It is Horizons. Check it out:

That could also be Spaceship Earth, there is a scene (still in it) where two friends are talking to each other through tv screen type things - they were in two different countries, the boy was speaking english and it was interpreted back to the girl in Japanese and the girl was speaking Japanese and it was interpreted back to the boy in English. Do you remember if there were scenes like Michaelangelo painting the Sistine Chapel or of the Roman Empire, etc.? If so then that was Spaceship Earth (my favorite ride in Epcot!)

I honestly think it was Horizons. I beleive the scene the OP is talking about is the teen girl laying on her bed, talking to her beach bum...marine biologist boyfriend, who is fixing his mini-submarine, over a video camera phone.

I think the OP is thinking about Horizons. There was the mother talking to her daughter who was in the desert. The guy in the udersea city talking to his girlfriend (who may have been the girl in the desert, I can't remember) and near the end of the ride there was a birthday party in space with everyone (the people in the desert and under the sea) attending by monitor. There may have even been more scenes, but that's all I recall.

Horizons was always one of my favorites at EPCOT! I was so sad when I found out they were closing it down. But I'm pretty excited to try MISSION space, it might have been a good trade off.

I will still always have fond memories of horizons! I recorded most of it with my video camera before they closed it down. Loved that orange smell when you passed the groves!

I hear ya! I so miss Horizons, I wish they would expand rather than take out some of these great rides.

I miss Horizons also, as well as World in Motion which was the original GM exhibit before Test Track.

Feel free to wade in here anytime abacobaby! Something must be ringing a bell by now. My guess would be horizons because of the two, that is the only one that isn't there anymore. Process of elimination!

I know because the same thing happened to me!!! I went when I was a teenager and LOVED Horizons (I also liked the original world of motion). Then, I went in 2000 on my honeymoond and I was really upset because it wasn't there anymore. I remember the ride exactly. You sat 4 to a seat (sort of like a tilt a whirl shape) and it rotated around different scenes of family life into the future. At the end of the ride, you had the chance to pick your own future adventure. Everyone in your car could choose their own future experience. I believe there was space, land, water, etc. Anyway, is this the ride you're talking about?

Hi everybody,
thanks so much for all of your replies. Hmmm...I remember every one of the scenes you all mentioned....now I'm confused as ever, since I remember both Horizons and Spaceship Earth. Maybe in my mind I made the two rides into one ride? Anyway, I loved the ride so much and I was so disappointed not to see it again. From what you have all described to me, I think it must have been Space Ship Earth?! Anyway, thank you all so much for helping me out! I hope that I at least brought back some good old memories for you all! It sure did for me, thanks!!!

::yes::
Some of the "talking scenes" that people are mentioning that are part of Spaceship Earth (the mom singing to her child over the video phone, the English speaking boy talking to a Japanese girl over videophones) were not part of Spaceship Earth 13 years ago.

That scene is from Horizons. The "hosts" of the attraction were a mom and dad who had several adult children who lived in various "futuristic" environments. One lived in a space colony (which was where the floating dog was). This site has a lot of info about Horizons , but sad to say, the video link at the bottom of the page doesn't work. Most of the other links do though. The script links have the script along with pictures that show what you saw during that portion of the show. The "dog floating" scene is from page 4 of the script.
Mouseplanet has an interesting page about the design of Horizons. Can you tell that Horizons was one of my all time favorites?

Just think how fortunate we were to have actually SEEN Horizons. Gone now, and WDW visitors who never saw it (nor will ever see it ) don't know what they missed.
