Does anyone remember this from Epcot?

When I went to WDW with my parents years ago I remember very distinctly a sound booth in Epcot where you could place headphones on to listen to a scene unfold. (I think it may have been in the Journey Into Imagination pavilion after you come out of the ride where you can try out different activities, but I'm not positive. It definitely was indoors.) I remember the scene took place in a barbershop (you are the person getting the haircut) and there was a conversation going on. It was a very unique experience because you really felt like you were there, just by the way you could hear the sound effects. For instance, a man crossed the floor and his footsteps started on the left side of the headphone, got louder, switched to the right ear and then got softer. When the hair cutter started to blow dry your hair, because of the way the sound switched back and forth it TRULY felt like it was actually happening. In addition to the barbershop scene, there was a little sound quiz where they would let you listen to a sound and then ask you if it was 'sound A,' which you of course thought it was, then they tell you it's 'sound B,' which was something completely different. The only one I can remember is the sound of rain during a downpour...that is exactly what it sounded like. Then they tell you it is actually the sound of bacon being fried in a frying pan, which you then recognize as being the true sound. They had a bunch of sounds like these and I remember being so impressed with the whole experience.

The last time I went to WDW was in 1997 and either I couldn't find it or they had done away with them. When I was there as a kid, the area it was in had a wall with several doors, each door opened into a tiny sound booth. Does anyone remember this? Were you as impressed as I was? Do they still exist somewhere? I would love to have my husband try it out!

I believe you are talking about the Monster Sound show that has been replaced by Drew Carey's Sounds Dangerous. They are at MGM.
Here's a link to the old show. Monster Sound Show

I know what you are talking about but are you sure they werent in MGM. after the sounds dangerous drew carey thing they have these booths. I remember listening to a barber shop scene.

It was in the Studios. I think it was (and is) called "Sound Works," and also featured several sound effects inventions in the post-show area of Monster Sound Show (MSS). I don't recall whether this particular story is still played in the Sound Works, but I think the booths are still there. The current attraction is "Sounds Dangerous" with Drew Carey.

Hope this helps!

I remember hearing that experience at the Disney MGM Studio. It was in the area where you came out of the Sound Show - Now Sounds Dangerous with Drew Cary, but the first sound show had a different name and was a movie with Chevy Chase and Martin Short.
I think the show that you are describing is still there (although I haven't gone to listen to it in a few years).

The little quiz you are talking about is in the Wonders of Life pavilion in Epcot. You sit with earphones on and are given a little sound quiz where you try to recognize sounds. One is the bacon frying but it sounds like rain falling.

The other show with the barbershop, as the others have said, is at MGM's Sounds Dangerous, right after you leave the show, in the booths against the wall.

That is one of my favorite little things at WDW, it's in the exit area after Sounds Dangerous. It was there durring the original "Monster Sound Show" attraction, which also had a pre show video with Jimmy McDonald and David Letterman. "Please move through the automatic doors or men in mouse suits will escort your family out of the park!"
The haircut experience is duplicated in the renovated "Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln" attraction on Main Street in Dinseyland!

Wow! Thank you all so much! Apparently my memory of where exactly it was was a little fuzzy, but thanks for giving me the scoop! What would I do without the Disboards?!

Laura, this has nothing to do with your question, but I LOVE your dog! We have a 4 yr old choc labbie named Shelby who we rescued 2 years ago, and she looks very much like yours. Aren't they great?
