Does anyone remember the Ice Cream Sandwich Recipe?

Last summer - someone posted a really easy ice-cream sandwich dessert. You had a 9X13 pan and layered it with cool whip then ice cream sandwiches then cool whip again and another layer of ice-cream sandwiches then put in freezer then topped it with that fudge stuff that hardens (can't remember name)

Anyway - I think this is how the recipe goes - but don't remember for sure. I made it last summer and everyone loved it and I was going to make it for Easter (along with some pies).

So, if anyone remembers can you confirm the recipe or let me know how it really goes. Thanks.

Mine is a little different... but here it goes.

Layer the bottom with cool whip

Top with ice cream sandwiches

Top with cool whip

Sprinkle the cake Heath bits (the english toffee candy, usually in the baking section of the store)

Lastly swirl carmel topping over the top (ice cream topping like smuckers)

It is really easy to make and taste great... freeze over night.

I had a similar recipe that used hot fudge topping and peanut butter mixed together, and peanuts on top.

I can't find it. It was really good.

You guys were just suppose to find the one recipe - now I have more recipes that sound good.

The hot fudge peanutty one sounds like a Dairy Queen Peanut Buster Parfait... Yummm.

Ohhhhh, wow I love the choc, peanut one... I think I may switch from the carmel one.

More choc the better IMO

I'm trying to find it. I think it might have been in a magazine, so it might take a while.

I think I'll make it, too. :)

subscribing here and waiting for that yummy recipe.................

OK. I have done some online searching (not DIS searching) while I have been waiting. I have found some yummy looking recipes. These are not the same as the OP mentioned, but I thought I would share anyway.............

LynnTH, I am still waiting for you to post your recipe when you find it. I would love to have a copy of it and try it soon!

I found it - I did a search on the DIS and came up with it.

Here it is:

Use a 9x13 tin(the deep one-about 2-3 inches)

Spread a layer of cool whip, then put a layer of ice cream sandwiches, top that with another layer of cool whip, more ice cream sandwiches-top with another layer of cool whip and then pour a bottle of chocolate fudge Magic Shell over the top. Freeze overnight. It was a huge hit!

It was so easy and everyone loved it. It was gone in no time. You could even use different flavored Ice cream sandwiches (like the mint ones)

About how thick is each cool whip layer? Do you use one cool whip container and use half for each layer?

thanks,
Melissa

I didn't find the exact recipe, but I found what I make. I rarely follow a recipe exactly, and rarely measure amounts. It's almost identical to the above recipe from Allrecipes, but has peanut butter. I usually have extra ice cream sandwiches in case I can't make them fit right. :goodvibes

Peanut Butter Sundae Cake

*19 ice cream sandwiches
*1 (12 oz.) container Cool Whip, thawed
*1 (12 oz.) jar hot fudge sauce
*1/2 cup peanut butter (I think the actual recipe calls for 1 cup)
*1 cup peanuts

Combine hot fudge sauce and peanut butter in saucepan and cook on low, stirring until combined. Cool sauce to room temperature. Place half the ice cream sandwiches into 9 x 13 in. pan, arranging to cover bottom. Top with half the Cool Whip. Drizzle all the fudge sauce onto Cool Whip layer, and sprinkle with half the peanuts. Top with remaining ice cream sandwiches, Cool Whip, and peanuts. Cover and freeze. Take out of freezer about 15 minutes prior to serving.

I know I bought 2 tubs of the cool whip (and I used the Fat Free stuff to make it even better). I think I used probaly 1 to 1-1/2 tubs. I just made sure it was covered good. I think I also had to use 2 bottles of the magic shell also.

My version calls for you to crush Whoppers and mix into the Cool-Whip and then also top it with crushed Whoppers. YUM!

Thanks for answering my question, Lynn. :thumbsup2 This sounds like something the kids in our family might like for an Easter dessert:banana: !

My DD came home from college today. After reading this thread I made this dessert. Let me just say it is incredible. The entire family loved it. It took about 10 minutes to put together.

I was telling my mom about the peanut/choc one and we may have to switch for awhile... we have done the carmel one for so long.

After reading the whopper one... I bet you could any just about anything. YUM... snickers, m&m's, reeces pieces

Yes this is definately going to be one of my Easter desserts (along with those silly green frosting cupcakes with Jelly beans on tip-- that is a must with my youngest)

I was looking thru my favorites, and look what I resurrected for all of you for a Summer treat! Enjoy!
