I am checking to see if anyone has a Care Credit card.
I need to have some dental work done and don't have dental insurance & my health insurance doesn't cover the oral surgery either. I asked if they had a payment plan and they suggested Care Credit. It is a credit card, but has promotional periods such as 6 month 0%.
Has anyone heard of this or does anyone have this card? I just want to know what others think before I decide to go this route since I don't have the cash up front to pay for the surgery.

Thank you!

My family has one. It was obtained when there was an 18 month 0% offer on $3000 worth of dental work. We have also used it when our dogs had some unexpectedly high bills, in those cases it was 0% for 6 months.

The card itself is through GE Bank, and we have had no problems with it. We have had it for approximately 4 years, no hidden fees and if everything is paid off on time, no interest.

I had it until life hit dumpster. NO problems for me except paying bill after job loss.

I've had mine for at least 5 years - got it when I had some unexpected dental needs. No problems, no hidden fees, no interest for 18 months...had it paid off in less than a year.

We offer it at my dental office and quite a few patients have it. Basically the office pays a fee to accept this loan (interest free) to the patient. The negative is: do not skip a payment or you will be charged an interest rate that is really high, I'm thinking it is 27%. It's a great way to pay for dental and vet needs.

Thank you! This is what I was hoping to hear. I think I will apply today. My other option would be putting it on my cc, but I know I would have to pay interest on it since I won't have the money up front.
Thank you for your replies. It was helpful.

Hubby has used it 2 times so far for dental work and we have had no problems. He was approved over the phone and then after he used it, I set up an account on-line for the payments and payed it off before the promo rate was up.

Many rewards credit cards are offering 0% for a year or more right now. I just obtained several that were 0% for 13 months and I also received money back after spending x amount of dollars in 3 months. If you are eligible for care credit then you might b eligible for those also. Try American Express Blue Sky I believe I got $200 in rewards after spending $250 plus 13 months interest free.

We have one and let me just say you do NOT want to miss a payment. Our %rate jumped to 30! It took months at that amount to pay the thing off. Finally did, though... ;-)

I talk about this card at least once a day to work.

The interest free plan will depend on what the office has negiotated with Care Credit.

We offer 6 months/ no interest if your balance is under $300 & 12 months/ no interest if it's over $300.

I have it as well and made payments on time however I slacked off on paying more than the minimum twice and now I'm going to get hit with interest :(.

It'll tell you on the statement all about the interest and if you only pay the minimum how much you are really paying.

I like it :)

I just paid off my CareCredit account, opened six months ago when I had a hysterectomy. I also had the promotional plan where you have six months to pay with no interest. Like others have said, you need to be very disciplined with this plan, don't miss a payment and pay your balance IN FULL by the time the promotional period expires or you will end up paying "deferred interest charges." In my case, the interest rate is a ridiculous 26.99%, which of course I won't be paying, thank you very much!

We opened one when our cat had to go to the emergency vet. No problems with it! It's paid off now but nice to have in case of another health emergency (for either us or the cats!)

I have it for some tmj work and am still paying off my amount but so far so good. defintely helped out and wish they would have approved me for more

I used it last fall when I needed to purchase new hearing aids. HA's aren't covered under most insurance because they are for fun, not necessity you know! :rolleyes2

My plan is 0% for a year. I took the total and divided by 12 and that is the amount I pay per month. It is well over the minimum. I keep the money in my savings account and have the auto pay set up so I don't forget. I have no complaints.

I have one but haven't used it in a long time. I used it for a vet bill and it was no interest for a certain time frame.

Once established, you can sometimes get the maximum raised. We have done that for quite a few patients. I think you can call CC and when the prompt comes up for increasing just press that.

I've never had the card, but I have a friend who does cause she had no dental insurance. She said its great and she used it to pay for some orthodontal work for herself. They have great no-interest promotions from what she tells me. ;)

We have one and it has worked out in a pinch. My only suggestion is to make sure you look at your bill and your due date because it changes! I am not sure how many days their billing cycle is, but it changed significantly over the course of a couple of months!

I have one. I was able to pay mine off before the 6 months and have no interest. I haven't closed it because I figure worst case medical emergency at least they usually offer 0% financing again. But if you are even a few days late they will bump the interest rates sky high. Not really your best option if you can finance it another way.

I haven't read the other responses but just giving you a heads up.

If you take this route note that you have the date when the grace period ENDS and when your payment is DUE....2 different dates.

I was making payments had 1 more to make (paying before the due date~) but it 5 days AFTER the grace period and got slapped with ALL THE INTEREST!!! I made a HUGE mistake and have been so upset with myself since.

Live and learn. Just mark your ending GRACE PERIOD! on your calendar and make sure you pay it off before then.
