Does anyone "not" eat leftovers?

We did not eat leftovers growing up for the same reason as your SIL. My parents grew up very poor and both of them were accustomed to living on one meal's leftovers for days. To them eating 'new' food every night was a sign that they had made it up at least one rung on the ladder of success.

To be honest, I don't like leftovers. They never taste anywhere near as good as they did originally and it feels on some level like I'm a pig eating the leftover table slop. I don't even like Thanksgiving leftovers.

My dh, however, loves leftovers. I should note that he is the cook in the family. So we've handled the situation by him taking the leftovers to work for lunch. For Thanksgiving, I will eat one and a maximum of two leftover meals. That is my limit and I will not eat any more.

We eat leftovers when there is actually food left over!:lmao: Some foods I cook with leftovers in mind because I don't want to cook from scratch every night of the week. Some foods taste better the second time around like spaghetti and homemade mac & cheese. When we have a misc. leftovers for dinner we call it "hodge-podge" night. The kids think they're at a open buffet instead of the take-or-leave-it cafe.:)

I have a sister-in-law who has never, ever fed her family leftovers.. (She was raised poor and considers it "acting" poor if you have to eat leftovers..)

Even major holidays - like Thanksgiving.. As soon as everyone is done eating, all the leftovers go right in the trash!!
Sounds like my sisters ex in-laws.

My son's godparents do not eat leftovers, although I'm not sure about Thanksgiving and Christmas.

We have a teen boy....what is this "left over" thing of which you speak?? :lmao:

You have been granted an exemption from the question..:lmao:

:lmao: :rotfl2: :lmao: oh so true - DS is off to college now, but this is traditionally football season and I am very used to cooking like the team was coming to dinner every night.

DH doesn't know how to make his way home from work without stopping at the store for milk............every day

I do quite a few things that I don't "have to" do -- that's why I'm not poor!

I won't eat leftovers ever. The way they look coming out of the refrigerator cold :scared: !! I cook something new each night or we order takeout. IF I have leftover chicken or something, my girls will eat it as a snack but not me. We aren't ever home for lunch either or work at places to take lunch to, so my DH and I always buy lunch.

I will admit I do not eat leftovers of any kind. I had a bad case of food poisoning several years ago and attribute it to leftovers. Now my family on the other hand loves leftovers.

I have a very strict 3 day rule because I have a very sensitive stomach. That being said, I love most leftovers!

With the exception of Thanksgiving, I will not eat leftovers for dinner. I will eat leftovers the next day for lunch, but never for dinner. That's just me. I am strange.

My family will eat leftovers. My kids love leftovers.

I just can't stomach anything that has been in the fridge for longer than a day. That includes lunch meat but does not include Thanksgiving. :upsidedow

Every week I do at least two meals that will make leftovers. I do this on purpose to have food to take for lunch on my long days and to save me from cooking on a day i don't feel like it! Home cooked food without having to cook, sounds awesome to me! :thumbsup2 Both hubby and I eat leftovers. We may alter it a little by turning a leftover pork tenderloin into a pork stir-fry or mixing chili into spaghetti, but most times I eat leftovers as is.

I think with certain things, like some lasagnas, the leftovers taste better because the flavors have had time to marinate amongst themselves. Just tonight I made tortellini soup and will take leftovers for lunch later on.

I hate leftovers. I try to just cook enough for the one meal so there is not a lot of things left over. I can tolerate left over chinese food as long as it doesn't have meat/chicken in it- I can't stand day old cooked chicken :scared1: it just tastes to "gamey" to me.

I know the feeling DS is 11 and DD is 14 but they are both swimmers and I can always tell when the coach ups their workouts! There are few leftovers onb thsoe nights and sometimes we hear "You gonna eat all that?"

I'm not a huge fan of leftovers but I would eat them before going hungry. I do like left over pasta, its better if I heat it on the stove rather than microwaving. Right now DH and I live with his parents and his mother cooks dinner most nights and it already tastes like leftovers because she cooks everything during the day and then lets it sit with a paper plate over it and reheats it in the microwave :confused3 I'm thankful for everything they do for us, the dinner thing just isn't what I'm used to at all. I tend to eat large lunches

I do like reheated sweet potatoes with the marshmallows :goodvibes And pie

My rule about leftovers is that it has to be stored in individual storage containers and properly stored or I will not even think about it. I can't do a pre-made plate stuck in the fridge :scared: Or keeping the potatoes and the beans in the same container

We eat leftovers all the time, but I have some friends who refuse! We share most major holidays with two other families. We were all military families who got posted in at the same time and didn't know anyone else, so we started sharing the holidays. When it is hosted by the family that won't eat leftovers, I will "pick the bird" so then they will at least eat the leftover turkey in sandwiches. She has never made turkey soup, so on at least two occassions, we made it for her before we went home. Once I think I took the carcass home, because I couldn't bear to think of it being thrown in the trash!

On Saturday I asked my DD to make some rice for supper. DH, DS & I were at DS's hockey game, so just before we were leaving the arena we called her to tell her to put on the rice. It was Uncle Ben's Tomato & Basil. She was supposed to use 1 cup of rice, but didn't hear me tell her that, and never thought to read the directions (she is her father's daughter!). Anyway, she made the entire package (3 cups). We were having leftover pot roast and vegetables with it. Yesterday was a very cool day and I thought I would make a stew, but then I remembered we still had half of a package of cooked rice left from Saturday and I didn't want to waste it so I browned some hamburger and onion, threw in a cup or so of salsa, and then mixed the rice with it. It was pretty darn good!

left over potato soup, chicken and noodles, chili, beef stew YUM!! I make a stock pot size of these just for left overs.

I have to LOVE a meal in order to eat the leftovers. I am an extremely picky eater to begin with so, I usually don't eat much when its cooked the first time.

Leftovers I will eat:
my aunt's chicken and macaroni (her recipe. bite sized chicken, in some tomato wine creamy sauce. I LOVE it.)
Thanksgiving - will make a turkey, stuffing, cranberry sandwich.
Chicken cutlets, if they are less than 2 days old.
Pizza - reheat it in the toaster oven.
Steak - in a blue moon that its leftover, and not more than 2 days old. I will usually make a steak sandwich with melted mozz on it.

I really am an awful eater. My mom is so happy im at school now and she doesn't have to deal with my eating habits - she gave up cooking for me once I learned how to use the stove!

We eat leftovers all the time. I've never really understood those who don't, but to each their own.

When it comes to most leftovers, however, I prefer to eat them cold (with the exception of a few things). I quite enjoy leftovers, but I don't like the taste of food that has been reheated.
