We have covered Weight Watchers and Atkins but I believe that any diet can be right for someone! If someone needs a custom challenge, not covered already, post it here and I will come up with something to let you join in the fun!

I will accept a custom challenge. What do you need to know from me?

I will take the Alex Exercise Challenge. Bring it On !!!

Is that what you are doing Tink? Excersize and not really a formal diet? Fill me in on what you are doing now and I am sure I can come up with something creative :)

Tell me more, Alex. Exercise and grazing a healthy diet for me. Sounds like fun

and I want the clipart!

That sounds like a great idea to me Alex! I had wanted to join from the start, but I've been doing your challenge "secretly", vegetarian style. I'm just not eating any cream cheese, carbolite bars(that are so yummy), cookies etc...you know the stuff that you said we could live without.
The only difference is I'm still eating my small salad and some spinich everyday. My Doctor says it's very important for me to keep my iron up, so I eat spinich and take an iron pill everyday.
Since April 1 I've gone down 1 pant size and I think this "Secret" Alex Challenge is just what I needed to go down another size by the end of May!!
Along with that I will walk (without fail) on the treadmill and do the bowflex every other day, which I've been kind of not doing since I've been losing weight.

Thanks Alex,
You have regenerated my motivation:D

I have no formal diet. I eat sensibly (at least I try). I do excercise at least 3 times a week, working up to 5 times.(Curves and Pilates Tapes). My downfall has been chocolate and I don't drink enough water. I am working on cutting down the amount of sugar I put in my daily cup of tea. I eat three meals a day. No snacking.

If you told me to cut anything out of my weekly meals I would. I hope you can think of something out of this.

If that is working for you Cthia than that's great! There is no need for a formal diet...
Your mission when you are ready....

NO chocolate or sweets for the week...no sugar.... fruit is ok
Drink water at least 6 times a day including a glass BEFORE every meal.(for those that don't know that's a great diet trick)
Make the jump to excersizing 4 times that week (BUT be careful, the idea is to push a little without hurting yourself!)

Debbie,
I could use some more details of exactly what you are doing.

Lynn... if you are on "vegetarian" atkins (OMG that still blows my mind) and you have cut out all of the bars etc, but are still eating a few veggies I think that's reasonable. The healthier fish etc, that you are eating as opposed to my beef and bacon probably cancel each other out.

Allight I will start tomorrow morning. Sugar is going to be the tough one but I will do it. Thank you Alex.

Here is my exercise workout 5 - 6 days a week. 35 minutes on the elliptical trainer and either 20 minutes on the bicycle OR 20 minutes on the treadmill. On the weekend I do all three. I need to start adding weights and maybe a class or 2 each week. If I skip a weeknight at the gym, I get up and exercise with Denise Austin for 30 minutes in the morning. (She is on Lifetime for those interested)

Eating plan. Breakfast = fruit, Lunch = salad with chicken, Dinner = seafood or chicken and fresh vegetables. 2 caffeine free sodas per day. One snack per day = a Luna bar or a Pria bar. 6 - 8 glasses of water.

This may be just what I need to get back on the wagon of maintaining. I hit my goal about 1 month ago and have stayed within 2lbs since then, but recently am having trouble. When I am doing well I stick with the plan from my nutritionist which is a total of 12 carbs (180g), 6 protein (42 g) and 2-4 fat (10-20g) a day. I exercise 5 times a week: 3 times at work (30-40 minutes abs and weights) and 2 times at home (4 mile walk on weekends=8miles). DH and I work opposite shifts so it is difficult to workout at home during the week by myself. I do 100 abs each work morning and take a small break at work to walk 7 flights of stairs. I don't drink soft drinks, only water. Right now I am having difficulty staying away from the sweets and not eating between meals. Give me a challenge!!!!!!

P.S.....how long is this challenge, Disney is a dangerous place to try to meet a challenge and we leave in a week....

Holy heck Tink and believe...you guys are kicking some serious butt already....
Maybe you need Marine basic training :)

Ok here goes....
Tink- Your eating is great... can't really do much with that so we have to do the excersize... It sounds like you are doing mostly aerobic excersize.
Your challenge.. 3 times during the week you need to add 45 minutes of free weights or machines, concentrating on a different mucsle group each time. Please get some help from a trainer if you haven't done much of that before, the last thing you want to do is injure yourself and not be able to keep up the good work you have been doing.

Believe...congratulations on achieving your goal!!! You must be so proud :)
Maintaining is where it is at!! You don't want to become a yo-yo dieter after all your good work.
Your challenge for one week is to go back to doing EXACTLY what you did when you lost the weight to begin with. Don't even think about it, pretend you are back at the begining and just do what you did.
For excersize (and this assumes there are NO medical reasons you can't) you can add some aerobic excersize. The walking is great. Start with that and build on it. Three times during the week just do your 4 miles but start picking up the pace a little. Let it come naturally, just jog for a while and when you are out of breath go back to walking. As time goes by you will increase the time you run untill you are running the whole time.
That will REALLY help on maintaining the weight.

Actually, I am doing similar to Cthia. I try to eat sensibly (spreading my intake over the day rather than 3 big meals), and am trying to get to Curves 3-4 times a week. I don't use a lot of sugar, though. I think that I'd like to make sure that on the off days, I do my 2 mile WATP tape, and
water.gif
on the weekend is a problem for me...so maybe make sure that I get it all in?? Oh, and not having those few crackers before bed. What do you think, Alex?? I sure would like that survivor clipart!

I just took a peek at your new clipart for your challenge! I WANT ONE- I feel like that bratty girl from Willy Wonka that had to have a golden egg- I WANT A SURVIVOR CLIPPIE!!
I finish my month of slim-fast on the 30th- I think I'll have managed to lose 10 pounds this month! YIPPEE! I want to try Atkins for a month- doing the induction phase for 2 weeks then sticking to about 40 carbs or less a day and seeing how I lose.
I walk M-F for 30-45 minutes each day (2-3miles), I bike for 1/2 hour on the weekends and I work out at the Y 2x- I do sit bike for 20 minutes random level 4-5, then I do 8 arm machines 3sets of 12reps, 5 leg machines, and 40 situps. So what kind of challenge can you make me survive?
Any pointers on no-no's with Atkins would be helpful- I did print out the list of acceptable induction foods. I already ONLY drink water (with lemon sometimes) and of course the skim milk with my slim-fast. I don't do diet sodas- so that's not a problemo. Can't wait to meet the challenge- you're a sweetheart (no matter what anyone says ;) ) and can't say how wonderful your efforts are- they're making me a smaller person and a BIG LOSER!!!
Tara

Debbie....
Sounds like you have your own plan already written... You know what you need to do so go out and do it!!! Your goal is NO sugar and get through the weekend just like it was a weekday...
NO cheating!! Not even a nibble and no eating after 8 pm...
that should be a challenge!

Lmhall.....NO NO NO a 1000 times no....
If you lost 10 pounds on slim fast last month you are doing great!!
Congratulations.... 2 pounds a week is an excellent and healthy weight loss.
When you find something that works for you stick with it...ride the wave....feel the force....
Just tell me what you are doing with the slim fast on a daily basis and we will give you a "slim fast" challenge and you can earn your clipart!!!
Unless there's some reason you feel the need to come off of slimfast go girl go!!!

I think I can, I think I can, I think I can!

I talked myself into just sticking to it (slimfast) for the month of April, mainly to help shrink my stomach so I don't get so hungry. But I don't think I could stick with this consistently much longer mainly because the shakes are sooo sweet and they're starting to make me gag. Ultimately I want to eat smaller portions and widen my variety of my diet which I know is carbo loaded- I was thinking by jumping onto Atkins (now that I've reduced my appetite with Slimfast) it will force me to buy foods I normally wouldn't buy and make me more aware of all the carbs I eat....+ my children see me drinking two meals each day and they keep asking me "Mom, when are you going to eat with us?" So I want to set a good example for them by showing them how to make healthy choices with their food. Luckily they do love broccoli, cauliflower- most the veggies I can't stand. Ultimately I want to be able to eat meals and lose weight- I just need some strict discipline to help me stay focused. What do you think?
Tara

Alex....I think I need a different aerobic exercise challenge, not to be picky;) With DH working evening I don't have someone near by who can watch the kids as I go out for a 4 mile walk/jog...this is why I currently only do this on the weekend when he is home. I do have WATP videos. If I need to add something during the week it will have to be something I can do at home, the girls are too small to go with me.

lmhall... if you are going to be switching diet's I'm not sure it's the best time for a "challenge" go ahead and decide what you want to do and we will give you a chance! Promise :)
Believe... ok so how about you go back to eating the way you did when you lost... and you do your aerobic tape 3 times on weekdays.. and start jogging a little during your weekend walks
