I've got to say that the BWI is my family's favorite resort. We love it there. The rooms are so pretty and spacious. Every picture I've seen is just the way the rooms really are. No worries for you there. The lobby is grand with lots of pretty seating areas and models of old time carousels and roller coasters. Looks like something from the Great Gatsby movie.
A standard view room often gets you a beautiful view of the courtyard garden, with the winding walkways and the flowering trees. Some of the higher rooms facing Epcot can see some of the fireworks.
There is no food court which we do not like either, but there is the Bellevue Lounge in the am. From 6:30am - 10am they sell a la carte breakfast items, like coffee, tea, juice, muffins, croissants, yogurt, cold cereal, and fruit. Then it reopens at 5pm for real lounge drinks. (no food then) Or you can order room service, and then there will be no walking down to the Boardwalk to fetch your breakfast! We get room service at least once on every trip.
The Boardwalk area itself is great! Plenty of restaurants to choose from. My boys love, love, love ESPN! Food is good and there are sports playing on what seems like 100's of tv's simultaneously. Sometimes on Friday night you can catch the little tv interview show they put out from ESPN for the resort tv and see a sports star. Entertainers are strolling around in the evenings doing renditions of old time entertainment. There are surrey bikes to rent and ride around Crescent lake. The walk to Epcot is only 5 minutes or so. The walk to MGM is about 20 minutes. Or take a Friendship boat - very relaxing little ride that will cross the lake for you if you don't want to walk or take you to Epcot or MGM.
The Luna Park pool is lots of fun. The Keister Coaster slide is 200 ft. long! Pretty good slide for a resort hotel. Although clowns aren't my favorite, the clown at this pool doesn't scare me. And there is only the one clown face at the slide exit, not clowns everywhere. There is a cute pool bar called Leaping Horse Libations that looks like a carousel. They offer the standard pina coladas, beers, etc and also some sandwiches and snacks. We ate a bite here a few times.
The BWI has an understated elegance and relaxed old time Jersey Boardwalk feel. Everytime we stay somewhere else, we always find ourselves missing the BWI and if we dare go visit it while on our trip, we get sad. That's how I know its our favorite. No matter how nice other places are, and we do love other resorts, the BWI feels like home to us. I hope you love it!
