Does ANYONE like Chef Mickey's?

We have gone on every trip.

Over the years we have experienced every meal.

We have great photos and great memories.

We have had, with little exception, terrific character interactions.

If you haven't done it, or you kids are young, or you just love Mickey, by all means GO.

This trip, however, we are not going. For the first time ever. While planning, shuffling, making our ADRs, and struggling to find a good fit for our Chef Mickey tradition I came to realize that I really didn't have any desire to go.

My kids are getting older.
We've "Been there. Done that."
The food isn't anything special.

I finally found myself saying to my husband "Do we REALLY need to go to Chef Mickey's this trip? I know we always do. And the kids enjoy it. But WE really don't really like it..."

His response: "Honey, this entire trip is all about the kids. They'll be just fine if we don't go to Chef Mickey's"

Oh yeah! This trip is going to be perfect because we are spending time together. Relaxing and enjoying eachother. Not having to cook, clean up, work or study.

The rest is just icing.

It was a nice moment of clarity for one who enjoys obsessively planning.

So does anybody like Chef Mickey's? Yes. My kids do. But I don't, and we aren't going. And I'm ok with that. And they will be too.

Chef Mickey's is a must do every trip for us. We love it and like the food. I Love those mashed potatoes! We always do an early dinner. I think our next trip we got 5:05 pm. We don't have to wait for a table and the food has just been put out.

Chef Mickey's always our meal on our arrival night and again on our last night. It's an average buffet, but we've never found anything bad there. Great interaction, lot's of energy and fun. Can't wait to be back there!

It has been four years since we have been there. The kids are little old for characters now. We did this as our last thing in Disney, a fond farewell. I liked it because it gave us access to the Fab Five (with Chip and Dale in the earlier years). The food is not overall fantastic, but I found certain items that were quite good and stuck with those. I really liked the french toast for example.

We got in the habit of having one of the last ADR slots. The characters were more attentive since the restaurant was closing down. I don't know how it works now with the new brunch time.

It's our family must-do. I prefer breakfast over dinner, but that's true for most buffets. My kids don't even ask if we can eat there anymore - they know I'll make the reservation.

Chef Mickey's is one of our must do's. We have dinner there every trip and love it! We have never had a bad experience there. The food has always been good, character interaction, awesome, and great service!

I'm definitely in the never again camp. Have done two breakfasts and one dinner, all on our earlier trips. Kept thinking it was just an off time and would be better the next time. Back then I was hearing rave reviews about it all over the place. I guess we kind of resigned ourselves to think all Disney buffets would be chaotic, dirty, and yucky food.

But then we tried other places and found this one quickly went to the bottom of the list. We really enjoyed Tusker House so much more and you get to see Mickey, Donald, Goofy, and Daisy. Maybe not the Fab Five, but close enough! It's so much cleaner, food is better, less chaotic. Also loved 1900 Park Fare dinner. And even felt Crystal Palace was better.

So my question to those who do like Chef Mickeys.... Have you tried any of the others? Do you have anything to compare it to? Just curious!

Yes we've done TH breakfast, CRT, Akershus, CP, 1900 PF, Garden Grill.

TH breakfast was my favorite. CP lunch was really good and dinner was good too.

1900 PF dinner was pretty bad. My XH will literally eat anything if seasoned correctly and he said never again.

I still didn't have a bad meal at Chef Mickeys. Breakfast was really good. Dinner was ok. DS ate about 3 plates of pancakes. Its not my favorite and I would prefer we could skip it for something else but it's DS favorite. It's his only request all trip.

We love the food, characters, and the environment, just not the price!!
It's worth going once a year, though.

We've been almost every trip and have been for both breakfast and dinner. The food is better at breakfast IMO, but we haven't had a bad meal. Only my DH and I care about the food, we're really there because the kids love the characters. After 7 trips it's still their favorite!

I love Chef Mickeys and always find myself defending this place..Dont listen to all of the negative comments....go and u wont be disspointed trust me!

It's my son's first trip and we are going our first night for dinner. I have always gone there for the characters not the food. Any recent positive comments? Anyone?

Thanks!
My wife and I love Chef Mickey's. It is not a trip without dinner there. Yes, the food choice quality has gone down over the last ten years. By that I mean no more prime rib, but a very good roast anyway. I have read the many dissatisfied comments about the noise, cleanliness, lack of choices and I can honestly say I am glad I don't go when they do. Yes you will find some food on the ground-for crying out loud, the place is full of kids totally excited about Mickey coming to their table. Noise-it's Disney world, accept. Lack of choices-are you kidding me. Again, there are different choices every time I go but we have never been disappointed. This is not a five star restaurant, it's a chance to sit and watch the children's eyes light up when Mickey or Minnie drop by. My wife and I are in our 60's and we love Chef Mickeys.
