We have gone on every trip.
Over the years we have experienced every meal.
We have great photos and great memories.
We have had, with little exception, terrific character interactions.
If you haven't done it, or you kids are young, or you just love Mickey, by all means GO.
This trip, however, we are not going. For the first time ever. While planning, shuffling, making our ADRs, and struggling to find a good fit for our Chef Mickey tradition I came to realize that I really didn't have any desire to go.
My kids are getting older.
We've "Been there. Done that."
The food isn't anything special.
I finally found myself saying to my husband "Do we REALLY need to go to Chef Mickey's this trip? I know we always do. And the kids enjoy it. But WE really don't really like it..."
His response: "Honey, this entire trip is all about the kids. They'll be just fine if we don't go to Chef Mickey's"
Oh yeah! This trip is going to be perfect because we are spending time together. Relaxing and enjoying eachother. Not having to cook, clean up, work or study.
The rest is just icing.
It was a nice moment of clarity for one who enjoys obsessively planning.
So does anybody like Chef Mickey's? Yes. My kids do. But I don't, and we aren't going. And I'm ok with that. And they will be too.
