On the story of the cigars I am just distressed. There's no way I could have tolerated that.

Husband and I went one night...without the kids. The food was good though my dish was much spicier than I expected (the shrimp was quite delicious all the same) I love spicy foods, but I didn't expect it to be quite this hot...
Still we'd go again and I'd order the exact same dish....

The rice wasn't overcooked, like in some places, and the drinks were not half bad either.

We ate outside and it was very atmospheric and the service wasn't exceptional, but we are very low maintenance and didn't require much anyhow.

I say go, if you want something different and don't set your expectations super high.

We ate at Bongo's one night on our honeymoon... I love Cuban food, and this was all right... in the same way I would say that a Planet Hollywood or Hard Rock is okay for its food... you're not necessarily there for the food but for the atmosphere... ask for a seat on the balcony... we had a nice table overlooking all the hustle and bustle of the street... great for people watching... good music... worth trying once.

My family really liked it, although I must say, the kids actually had McDonalds before my parents and I ate at Bongo's. The kids had the ice cream and my son STILL talks about the coconut ice cream. The grown ups enjoyed the entrees quite a bit and all ordered different items and shared some of everything and it was all good. Hope you enjoy it!

I'm not a real big fan. It definitely seemed Americanized, which I should have expected. DF absolutely loved the cuban sandwhich, so we'll be going back next year during our stay in disney.

But the mojitos are quite tasty!

Florida now has a clean air act, and no bar or restaurant can allow smoking indoors. (even during a concert at HoB, smokers have to go outside on to the porch to smoke.) My guess is that the poster who spoke of cigar smoke dined there quite some time ago.

Love it! I had Arroz Frito a la Bongo - Bongo's special fried rice with shrimp, beef, chicken and vegetables $15.95 and my DW had some type of sweet/sour chicken, fried bananas and rice. We also had tostones (fried smash bananas) with a garic sauce dip as a appetizer. Everything was very tasty.

I conveyed the sense of what you all have said on this thread to my friends, and they've said, "Let's give it a go!" So, that's the plan. And I'm very glad to hear about the no smoke policy - at least indoors.

After all this great converstion, and although I started out very dubious, I'm now actually looking forward to it!

And found it to be overpriced. I am from Miami where the SAME dish costs about $5-6.00 less!
