Does anyone know why the sale of alcoholic beverages is restricted on Sundays??

Be glad you're not in a "dry" county
No, but I live in a semi-dry town, which means I can go to the local slammin' bar a few hundred yards from my front door & have a Long Island Tea or any liquor beer or wine I want, but if I want to buy a bottle of wine or beer from a store, I have to drive two towns over. If I want to buy liquor, the closest one is about 20 miles away & they all close at 9pm & don't open at all on Sunday. Needless to say trying to get a bottle of a single-malt scotch takes some planning.

Yeah, making people drive through 2 or 3 towns to make them buy alcohol, that's smart. I'm sure that will lower the cases of drinking & driving.

What are blue laws anyway?
Blue laws are legalism at it's finest (or worst as is more the case). Nothing is more attractive to potential converts than pissing them off, eh?

Thankfully Texas has relaxed most of it's blue laws (excerpt for the freakin moronic alcohol laws), but I remember in the 80s when video games in stores had to be unplugged & I couldn't buy a GI Joe because it was a Sunday. It didn't make sense then, how on earth would it make sense to a grown (supposedly somewhat intelligent) adult?

It seems like some people freak about alcohol & treat it like it's bad or something. Yes, an over indulgence could be a problem, but so could an indulgence with medication or food. My mom has said that perhaps we should convert to Catholicism just so a few friends wouldn't act akward if we have a glass of wine with dinner.
;) :teeth:

Here in Kansas all liquor stores are closed on Sundays. Grocery stores and any other store that sell Beer cannot sell on Sunday. The only place you can buy "Hard Liquor" are liquor stores. And grocery/convenience stores can only sell 3.2 beer. I'm always amazed when I go out of state and I see alcohol everywhere it seems. You can get a mixed drink/beer on Sunday in some of the restaurants here.

Here in California, not only can you buy alcohol on Sundays, you can buy HARD alcohol at the grocery store. :) The only time you can't buy any alcohol in stores or at bars/restaurants is between 2am - 6am  I never have understood this.

I always think it's wild when I'm watching that show with Dave Attell on Comedy Central where he goes to different towns & it always throws me off when it shows the time as 4:15am & they're drinking in a bar. You can't find a bar in CA or TX that serves past 2am.

Maybe I should just get it over with & move down to N'awlins. :teeth:

I think people here stock up for Sundays because the liquor stores are closed, and the grocery/convenience stores can't sell on Sunday. Restaurants all serve alcohol on Sunday, and if you go to the one brewpub in town, they can sell you a jug of their own product on Sunday.

Yay for California... LMAO... We found it so odd when we went to NY and we couldn't buy champagne in the grocery store...
