Does anyone know the value of an Olympic Gold Medal?

My son approached me and told me he thinks the Olympic gold medal is valued at million dollars.....bless his heart.


So my question is........ What is the value? Is it solid gold or gold plated.....

Used to be solid gold many years ago but the medals are now made of silver and then gold plated with about $83 worth of gold (1/5 of an ounce). The last first place medals made of solid gold were awarded at the Stockholm games in 1912.

I saw on the Today show that a gold medal can be worth a million dollars....in endorsements.
