Does anyone know of anyone else who is doing the Fish Extender Gift Exchange on the Disney Fantasy on the 7 Night Eastern Caribbean Cruise on September 8th - 14th, 2018 ?

Our group is really small and a few of us would like to join another group or combine the groups together.

Your group should start getting bigger soon. You'll find a lot of people just prior to 45 days. How many different cabins do you have in your group right now? It can be nice to have a smaller, first group, that can make more special gifts for one another that's been in the group longer. And then when the Rush comes closer to sail date the bigger groups with more traditional items can be given

I suggest that you check on social media, especially the book of faces for your cruise dates.

I agree, while I love disboards, you really have to join a FB group to really do FE.

My last two cruises I was on a list here and on social media. I was able to add people from here to the larger mixology and other assorted groups there. Not everyone has FaceBook and they shouldn't have to be forced to get an account of the feel uncomfortable about it. Just opinion not preaching, I always feel "let you, be you" made for great individuality.

I don't think anyone is forcing anyone to do anything. Whether we like it or not, many - if not most - people have moved to FB for FE. That was the case for my last two Disney cruises.

I don't agree with that. I've done FE groups (yes, only on DIS) and they've all been very successful. It mostly depends on the organizer/group wanting to set such things up. It doesn't matter the location where the group is set up.

Since the OP said their group is small and is looking for more, seems logical to point them to another venue since that’s what she asked for. I don’t do FE, but my daughter and granddaughters do. They seem to enjoy it.

I only meant to imply that they are presented with a choice. Join FB or don't. I have had people on two cruises whom both (politely for the most part) refused to have a FB account. For me that's ok that they feel that way. Some people use text and email others use the phone and USPS. It's all good, I can relay a message if needed. I like diversity in communication. They can make me feel very current and trendy as well as very laid-back and relaxed.

It's a weird time now. Graduation parties are announced on FaceBook if you want the school friends to attend and by invitation if you want family to attend. So if you try to have a party with both now days what a mess. Kids are so uncomfortable asking for personal information now that it's been drilled into their heads not too for so long.

May I ask when the last one was? I feel like the number of active meet and FE threads here have really dwindled. That's not to say you couldn't still have a successful FE here, the mechanisms are still in place, but I don't know that the audience is here any more.

I think this is such a good compromise, but isn't it technically against the rules? What I remember happening was that the Dis began cracking down on the mention of FB and with that the meet groups soon dwindled.

I was wondering that too. Not being snarky in the slightest, as I'm sure is the case with you b/c you're always a very polite poster. :) But I am getting the impression that the only cruises with active meet threads here anymore are the longer repositioning cruises! You hear about the Panama Canal cruise groups getting big, but I seriously do wonder how many others do. There were exactly 4 posts on the meet thread for my June Alaskan cruise - someone wanting to do FE who clearly posted in a different place first, the nice person not even on the cruise who told her where to do that before the thread was moved, me (expressing surprise to find anything for our cruise LOL), and one other person with a countdown post. For my cruise a year and a half ago, we had close to a whole page of posts. I mean, big whoopie, nearly a whole page - but not as pathetic as FOUR posts! The person with the FE request didn't even come back to comment again, so I'm sure she found her way to fb too. And yup, my June cruise had a very active fb group - FE, mixology, kid match-ups - and people are still communicating with each other there, weeks later.

Our Meet Up thread here isn’t active besides 2 of us chatting it here and there. We don’t do FB, so I imagine that would be why.

I offered to start a FE for my cruise group earlier if enough were interested with not much reply, so it didn’t take off :(

I’m fine either way, but it is fun chatting with people before/after who will be on the same boat as you.

Kinda sorta of yes. My second cruise was only social media. Nobody would hang out here And a few members had been banned here for putting it in the meet and greet thread. I felt a great loss of community back then. It was a bitter time here.

But my last 2 cruises had small DISboard groups of 3-6 families and it just makes it seem rude not let them know about the 20-40 families who they couldexchange with, especially when they comment on how disappointed they are about number of families that had signed up here. I usually tell/ask if they want to join ornaments/mixology/group tour and someone asks or if we need more to fill minimums.

But I think because of some of the more dictator type personalities the social media site has soured many of the cruisers on FE's. I have a few sister social media sites I left because of the DRAMA. I think it could be big here again because of that but so very few posts here asking about recommendations for men/teens/baby's/grandparents. People would bounce ideas out and get feedback. I remember things like "If you're cruising July 4 don't read this!" I totally had to read those!!! People would have a few FE related posts on each page. I liked the security offered over there but the community here made the planning such fun back then.

Certainly. The last FE I participated fully in was in 2014. We have only taken 2 DCL cruises since then, and one of them had a pretty active FE group (2016), but I only did pixie-dusting on that one. The last cruise was a short one and I didn't even look to see if there was a FE group on it.

Yes. I remember that. It was definitely an uncomfortable time on the boards.

Thanks. That seems about the timeline I remember for when things really slowed down/stopped here.
