So last night I needed to go grocery shopping badly. I was out of a lot of things and desparate to come up with something to make a meal so I could get to the grocery store after supper. In my frustration I slammed the refrigerator door. Oh my what a mistake!

The bottle of wine I bought last week for cooking was sitting on top of the fridge. It had not been opened. It fell off the top of the fridge hit the edge of the counter and shattered. :scared1:

So there I am with wine and shattered glass all over the floor, counters and in my shoe too. The kids come running up that the wine is pouring thru the floor and DH wants me to bring him a bucket so he can clean it up oh and dad's drinking (he decided not to let it go to waste :rolleyes1 ). DH comes upstairs to report that the wine is poured all over the washer and dryer and down inside and the clothes I just washed and dried :laundy: are wet as are the christmas cards that just came in the mail DM left on the dryer.:headache:

It took a while but I got it cleaned up - mostly. I also got the glass out of the bottom of my foot but I still have to re-wash three loads of laundry. :laundy: I also still have to get the smell out of the floor. The whole house smells like a drunken orgy took place. :sad2:

Anyone have any ideas for getting wine smell out of floorboards ??

I'm sorry...I don't know how to fix the problem, but this sounded like something I'd do and it made me laugh.

You might try some stuff called Anti-Icky Poo. If it can get out the toxic smell of cat urine, I'm quite sure it can work on wine too.

Wine leaked through your floor into the basement?

Was your father standing in the basement letting it fall into his mouth or was he on the floor with a straw?

I'd just wash the floor over and over. I've spilled wine before. I just mop it up.

After I mopped it up I would try to see if Febreze worked.

So, you shatter a bottle of wine, which would by the laws of physics be all over the floor, not just in one little spot and immediately it goes through the flooring material, through the wood construction of the house, through the ceiling, runs down the washer and dryer, that is what your husband didn't drink as it was running down and ruins 3 loads of laundry?

Really?

Maybe it was a jug of wine and an old farmhouse.

But...then you have old cobwebby ceilings in the basement and the thought of your DH lapping up nasty dusty wine has me wondering if you need to febreeze your husband AND the floor because he probably smells a lot like wine too. ;)

if you use a shop vac it will be easy to drink out of :drinking:

if you use the real skinny straws, you won't get that much hair...I'm just saying :rolleyes1
Yeah, but I've gotten Hurley's hair in my mouth accidentally (he sheds a heck of a lot) and I don't think I'd want even just a little fur with my wine LOL

Must have been a huge bottle of wine to ruin three loads of laundry.

I'd seriously be concerned with the quality of your flooring if the wine actually seeped through to the basement in that large of an amount.

Wait. Somebody drank wine that had soaked through the floorboards and dripped out of the ceiling? I'm feeling ill just thinking about it. He must really love that wine!

But as to the smell - I think vinegar is supposed to be good for getting smells out of things.

You could always put a little bit of your stockings over the straw to filter out the hair....hey, you're already drinking it after it leaked thru the ceiling right? :thumbsup2

OP, just use white vinegar, it will take the smell out of the laundry and your floors.....

Really :surfweb:

Wine in a box is your friend. :thumbsup2

As far as the smell, I've never had to rid my house of drunken orgy smell. I'd guess Febreeze for that. ;)
