So my mom and stepdad are thinking pretty seriously about letting my friends and I (like 1 or 2 of my most trustworthy friends) go away for a week or something next summer, as a graduation gift. You know, a last big thing before college. They have an RCI timeshare and are willing to trade out their points for us to go somewhere in New England.
Now the question is, do hotels/condos let 18 and 19 year olds check in or is this a non option. I'll be 18 at the time, and my best friend who I refuse to go without will be 19. Any ideas?

I don't think there would be a problem with the age that you are at, but most hotels will require a credit card so that if there are damages and such, they can charge it onto the credit card. You can also call the hotel and check what their policy is.

I remember not being able to get a hotel room when I was 18, but it may have been because I did not have a credit card.

As long as your parents agree that it's okay, I'm sure however, they could work something out with the hotel. Have a fun trip!!

My mom and stepdad would be the one making the reservations and stuff. It's just a matter of wondering whether or not we'd be allowed. If that makes sense.

18 most places and you can leave cash as a deposit instead of a credit card. Every hotel is different though. For instance, when I lived in Orlando and worked at a hotel on I Drive, no locals could rent the rooms and you had to be 21. Call and check the place you'll be staying ahead of time.

Yes you can rent a room at 18, most places you can't rent a car unless you're 21. My daughter just got back from Ohio. I booked the hotels with my credit card. One was a Holiday Inn and I can't remember the other one but it was also a major hotel chain. I booked both hotel rooms on my credit card and I let her take the card with her. She kept one charge on the credit card but paid cash for the other once she got there. You shouldn't have any problems at all.
Just be careful when using hotel phones, sometimes the charges can be way up there.

I would call and check. The place we get RCI timeshares from won't let anyone rent under the age of 21.

Yeah that's what I was afraid of.
Bumcat we'd be going somewhere in New England specifically so rental cars and airplanes wouldn't be requirements. Don't want to deal with that mess, or the expense of plane tickets

I have two sons who are 20 and almost 19, and they've both traveled some without me, with their friends (concerts and stuff like that).

It really varies from chain to chain. Check the different websites.

When this first came up, I was kind of shocked that it was even an issue. At 18, a person can marry and join the army, but they can't rent a hotel room????

If you have a disney room paid in full do you have to have a credit card at check-in. If so how much do they hold on the card at check in. Curious because this is going to come up with my dd.

At a Disney hotel, you do not have to have a credit card, but it is an option so you can use express check-out. Express check-out is where you can just leave the next morning and any charges to your room will be put on your credit card.

If you are worried about a credit card, you may want to try getting a debit card from your bank. They will allow you to get one at the age of 18, and the money comes out of your checking account, but you can use it just like a credit card. Just be careful though and double check with the companies that you are associating with and see if they will except a debit card. This could come in useful just in case there are any emergencies. Another thought is the new Mastercard gift cards. Anyone can get them and you use it where ever you can use Mastercard. Instead of paying by cash, you use it like a regular store gift card, and they will minus the money from your balance.
