Safety 1st Summit Deluxe High Back Booster Car Seat?

I just bought this for my DS4. He seems to fit pretty good in it and he says it is comfortable, but the harness for the crotch area seems to close to him. (He does not weigh enough to use it as a booster yet). It seems like this harness between his legs should be able to be moved forward, but I can't seem to find out if/or how it does.

Any suggestions? TIA

I don't have that seat but you could ask the girls over on car-seat.org. they are very knowledgable about every carseat out there. They are also very opionated on some seats and how kids should be harnessed.

I would recommend car-seat.org for car seat advice as well!

In comment to the summit though, I do know that it has the same rule as the Dorel 3-in-1 seats - the very top setting is for booster use only. The 2nd from top slots are the highest harness setting, and that is fairly low, about 15". Most avg size four yr olds will not fit in the harness in this seat height wise. The summit also has closed shoulder belt guides so doesn't make a great booster for that reason.

I'm surprised your 4 year old can fit in the seat harnessed. The top slots are not allowed for harnessing (they are for booster use only). So your child's shoulders have to be at or under (NOT OVER) the 2nd to top harness slots. If the child's shoulders are over the 2nd to top harness slots, then your child has outgrown the harness by height.

This seat is not usually recommended (by the ladies on car-seat.org and car seat tech abound) because of this issue. Children end up being too tall for the harness and not ready (due to weight/maturity) for the booster - thus another in between seat is needed.

My 4 yr old is actually pretty small. He weighs about 32 lbs and is about 38 inches tall, which I thought would be okay since it says up to 52 inches. I don't have it on the highest harness in the back, because I did read that one was for use with the booster. The only place it doesn't seem to fit (although he doesn't complain about it) is the crotch harness part...it seems too close to him.

Maybe I made a mistake with this seat???

I have heard of the same problems with the Apex one. Being to close on the crotch. I would return it and got for one like the graco nautilus which will 5pt harness until a higher weight.
