its where you have bumpy skin which is uaully on the back of your arms or on your thighs.

i've never been diagnosed with it but after self diagnosis i'm confident that this is what i have. besides my sister was diagnosed with it by a dermatologist and her symptoms are the same as mine.

it has never bothered me that much on the back of my arms but in the last couple of years i've gotten it very badly on the tops of my thighs and the outside of my lower legs and shaving is awful cuz the bumpiness gets caught on the razor and sometimes i get cuts or razor burn from it.

i just happened to see a commercial for gold bond for rough and bumpy skin and looked up the details and it said 72% of people with KP bumps saw a reduction in just 4 weeks.

i'm thinking about trying it but i was also wondering if there's anything else i should try?

btw i already do take hot baths and exfoliate the area as many health websites suggest and it does not work at all.

I don't have it but know many that do. My coworker has about the worst case I've seen on the back of her arms. She has been to multiple doctors and nothing helps hers. You will get varying opinions from the medical community about what may cause it, but I think the latest belief is that it is a form of eczema that strikes the hair follicles in these areas.

If you have a very mild case, the OTC products might help (Amlactin cream, Gold Bond). I've read that some of the anti-aging products are really helping (prescription strength) such as Retin-A, etc. that cause increased skin cell turnover.

Keep in mind that this commercial was trying to sell you gold bond. You need to ask how many people that didn't use gold bond also saw a reduction in just 4 weeks. You also need to ask if this was a valid "double blind" trial.

Not saying it doesn't work for some people, just saying that lots of people get taken in by these kinds of claims.

I have it as do two of my kids. I have tried over the counter with minimal success. It gets worst in the winter and is often go e in the summer. I have found that salt scrub with oil in it helps. I try to always exfoliate in the shower with something.

Lac Hydrin creme is what cleared it up in my family. (after having it since childhood). There's a prescription strength too, called Lac Hydrin 10.

I have had it since I was a baby. My mom took me to doctors who gave all these different lotions and creams, none of which worked.
In college a doctor finally told me the truth, there is really nothing that can be done.
Last year at my derm visit is checked with him to make sure nothing new had come out. Again he said I could write you a prescription for (whatever) but its expensive and does not really help.

Just by trial and error I have found that using baby oil in the winter helps but if I use it in the summer it makes it worse.

I've never tried the cream you mentioned but I would be cautious of true results.

Mine gets much better if I use a loofah sponge on it daily. There is also a lotion from CeraVe that makes it smoother. While it can feel a lot smoother, the red dots are still visible.

The biggest things that have helped mine were scrubbing with St. Ives Apricot Scrub and consuming chia seeds (likely the Omega 3). Also need to keep it moisturized. I have used Amlactin in the past and it did seem to work for me as well, though it really can make your skin sensitive to the sun.

True but at $4-5 for a bottle of Gold Bond, the risk is pretty low. I'd likely give it a try OP. and if you're experimenting, i'd also try a cosmetic retinol product. They do work for "turning over" skin cells (I can never get past the purge-stage on my face). If you see results then maybe you could look at pursuing a prescription Retin-A. I had this condition in childhood but luckily it has pretty much resolved itself as I've aged and good exfoliation is all I need now.

I have it, too. My dermatologist said there isn't much they can do for KP. She did say that there is a lotion of some sort with a specific kind of acid in it that can help if you use it every day. The catch is that you can't even miss one day of the lotion.

Since I'm not a model or in any type of position where it causes me harm to have bumpy legs and arms, I just stick to moisturizing.

I have it and so do both of my kids. Mine was really bad as a teen and the doctor prescribed Lac Hydrin, which worked a little, not a cure. As I've gotten older it has become much less noticeable. Sun helps. Bag Balm helps in the winter, but it stinks!

My son has it pretty bad, but he doesn't seem to care. DD has a very mild case of it.

My son has this. I believe I did also, but has gotten better since I was older. My sons allergist told us to use lotion everyday. We bought the gold bond (about $9 at target) and it had helped quite a bit on his upper back, but not quite as much on the back of his arms. We have only used it about a week, not as long as it states on the tub.

I had it always growing up and in the last 10 years or so it has gone away. I lotion daily. My favorite is "Lay it on Thick" Shea butter from Bath and Body works.:yay:

Often around Christmas time they sell it buy 3 and get one free. Keeps the cost down and lasts me a full year at least.

As a side note, when I lived in Mexcio and went to the beach daily to swim in the ocean it totally cleared up! I think it was the constant rubbing of the sand. :)

Good luck!

I have a mild form of it and use Coconut Oil with good success!

thanks to all the responses.

i went out today and got the gold bond lotion.
it doesn't have much of a scent but the little scent that it does have it a bit funky.
and its very sticky feeling.
i thoroughly rubbed it in and have had it on for a couple hours and its still very stick to the touch.
i figure it is worth a try though.

it really doesn't bother me on my arms its just that the ones on my legs get so irritated when i shave.

also mine does not get wortse in the winter or better in the summer. its the same year round.

i have always been a "lather on the lotion" kind of person so its frustrating when all you see is "make sure you are putting lotion on every day" cuz i do. i love to lather on baby lotion or st ives soothing lotion.

and its frustrating when you see everywhere that you need to make sure you exfoliate cuz again i like exfoliating and i do it every time i shower but still it never gets any better.
