I just bought a food dehydrator off of Ebay. Does anyone have one or use one? I'm hoping to dehydrate foods to bring for park snacks and things like that.... ANY info or experience would be great!

I dehydrated many apples for our trip a few years back. It took a lot of apples and time!! Here are some tips:

--start several weeks before your trip
--use hard apples (Gala are my favorite)
--buy an apple peeler, corer, slicer (mine is from pampered chef) so all of the slices are uniform and dry at the same time
--have the kids help--my kids get all excited to help--we count the days down till the trip by doing the apples

I am going to try to dehydrate cherries when they get into season. I love cherries, so I hope it works!!

I used to work with a woman that made turkey jerkey in her food dehydrator. She said it was really easy to do. She would bring some in to the office to share, when she made a batch for camping and it was delicious! I only know that she used thin sliced deli style lunch meat turkey and teriyaki sauce. That makes me want some now and I do have a dehydrator around here somewhere .....
Oh she would do pineapple rings too, also tasty

I'm unsure about drying meat- but pineapple rings sound great!!

A *WONDERFUL* Diser sent me a dehydrator just to make jerky for my little dog. Turns out great! :thumbsup2 I've never done fruit but always plan to...just get busy and keep putting it off.

I just got one this week at a yard sale. I can't wait to try it, I just have to find the directions for it. I am hoping I can find them online. (Mr, Coffee)

Even my Dh is excited that I bought it. I just have no clue where I am going to store it.:rotfl:

Slice bananas and make banana chips, yum!

Any kind of fruit works and tastes oh so good!

I read this at first as "sent me a dehydrator just to make jerky OUT OF my little dog." :scared1:
It's late, I need to go to bed!!

I have a friend who uses jarred baby food fruit in her dehydrator to make fruit leather. It turns out really delicious and is very healthy (no added sugar or starch) but it's pretty expensive when you calculate what you put in for what you get out. Good luck with your dehydrator.

I'm using mine for the first time right now.

Apple slices with cinnamon(used the pineapple juice to soak for absorbic acid)
Pineapple (chunks from a can that I cut thinner just to try)
Fruit rollups from store bought apple, blueberry, raspberry sauce.

Kitchen smells like an apple pie right now from the cinnamon.
