Does anyone have/know about Uterine Cancer??

My Mom just told me that she has been diagnosed with Uterine Cancer. I have been trying to do some research as it is not a cancer you hear alot about. If anyone can tell me anything about it, like how the surgery went, recovery info, etc, I would really appreciate it.

My mom had this cancer 13yrs. ago she was 53. We were, as everyone is terrified/unsure when she was told she had cancer. I will never forget the call when she told me I felt like I had been hit by a car.

Here is what I remember ( I was a mess! Mom & I are very close so this time was such a blur for me and for mom of course!)

I remember the dr. saying that as far as a type of cancer to have this one was a much better one to have! What an odd and yet comforting thing to hear!
She had surgery with no chemo or radiation after. She was in the hospital for just about a week. At the time she was working a full time job and she was out on leave for 3 months. DM was very tired for several weeks after the surgery but she also has post polio syndrome so she can be more tired then other people.

They were using the 5yr. cancer free time frame as the benchmark for her staying cancer free. DM went for regular checks durning that 5 yr. time frame and praise God she stayed cancer free! As I say that was 13yrs. ago with no sign of any cancer issues.

The interesting Disney connection here is that DM & I were planning a trip for her 1st. time to Disney and we put that on the back burner when we found her to be sick. I was afraid she would never get to see Disney with me.
DM & I have since made it to Disney (we are getting ready for our 5th. trip this Jan. and we love every minute we spend there together!)

I would be happy to ask mom any questions you might have.

I am as we speak waiting to go to my dr appt this afternoon. My doctor told me the same thing that if I do have cancer this is the best type to have. I had an ultra sound and it showed a small spot. He called it a cyst but the thing is it is in the muscle so I do not really think it is a cyst. They use that term just as drs use the term PDD instead of Autism. It is less emotionally charged. I am a basket case but reading this at least makes me feel a little better. I am having a d&C on Tuesday and the waiting is horrible. I just want to know what is going on.

truthfully, as an oncology RN your prognosis is excellent.Uterine cancer in early stages is easily treatable and generally confined.The worst part of any Cancer diagnosis is the testing/waiting period. I recently went thru this when they thought my husband had Non hodgkins lymphoma.We were on eggshells for 3 weeks of testing and biopsies.I know how you feel.Sending prayers

Well, we were hoping to find out more yesterday as my Mom had a Dr. appt. However, that Dr just referred her to another Dr in Madison(40 min. away) and she could not get an appt until the 16th. Its just a long time for her to wait and worry. She HATES going to the Dr. They will do the surgery and then they will know for sure how far along the cancer is.

I know she thinks that she will have the surgery and come right home-I don't think she has any idea how long the recovery will be.

Just another thing for me to worry about too, since my DH has been out of work for 9 months-found work finally but at half the pay and it is in another state. So I am home with three kids, trying to put off looking for a job until school starts in the fall. I was also going to put the house up for sale but I am putting that off because I live next door to Mom and I know she is already stressed with the prospect of us moving out of state.

Thank you. You are right the waiting is horrible. I went the first day I stared staining and he put me in for a TVUS at the earliest appt. This started on June 18 and I am scheduled for d and c on July 8. When I look at some of the other things people are dealing with on this board I feel like a baby for even complaining!

ETA went to doctor tonight and he told me the cyst is 3mm but it is in the muscle. I know that is worse than in the lining so it is a waiting game till i get the results from the d&c.

My mom also had uterine cancer about 7 years ago...had a complete hysterectomy and no other follow up treatments. She was in the hospital for 3 days and came home to recover wonderfully. She was 74 at the time. She has been cancer free since! I also hear many other full recovery stories as well.

A friend had uterine cancer almost 30 years ago - she had done fine since.

Another young woman that I know of had it about 3 years ago and is doing well.
