Hey all,

I am thinking about trying Magic Jack for my phone service. Does anyone have any experinece with this. Good or bad.

Thanks.

I have a Magic Jack that I now use as my business phone. I was paying over $50/month for a business landline. Gosh I think I got the MJ and first year for less than one month's landline price!

I was worried at first--while I had cable modem at home, I travel often to a place that has AT&T's lowest level of DSL. MJ has worked in both places.

You can do a trial as some people have reported the MJ does not work in their location on their computer connection.

I love that if I miss a call, the message goes to my email inbox.

Loved the savings and features. Reception wasn't all the great about 1/2 the time. The actual piece that plugs into the USB is kind of flimsy so you have to be careful if that is exposed to being tripped over, etc.

We did the trial and did not like it. The reception was really bad. Also, keep in mind that you need to leave your computer on 24/7, which I was not wild about.

We do use Vonage though, and have been very happy with it. We've had it for somewhere around 5 yrs. now, and never had a problem. They also have very good customer service IME.

We used it as our only phone for a while. Hated it. It was just inconvenient - and didn't work all that well. It took FOREVER to boot up - every time.

We gave up, and went back to an $$$ traditional land line.

I love having a phone separate from the computer that works when I pick it up.

We have had MJ for a year now. We were using our cells for long distance calling, well got rid of those expensive cell phones and got prepaid cells to use less frequently and got MJ for our long distance. We still have our landline, but thats for local only and the DSL. MJ has worked well for what we use it for, long distance calls and sometimes as a second line when the landline is in use. I probably wouldn't use it as our only phone. You would need your computer on for the phone to ring or make a call, otherwise it would go to voicemail. Early on we did experience a few times when the call would have a bad connection like a delay or an echo, not so much anymore though.

Thanks everyone.

It dosen't sound like it would work for us.

Thanks for your feed back.
