Does Anyone Feel Embarrassed?

Good thing DBF does and we have agreed to a Disney Honeymoon when the time comes. :cloud9: My family will love that one!

Oh, believe me, I've mentioned having a Disney wedding and my family thought it was a joke and didn't even believe that people CAN get married in WDW! :confused3 Sheesh!

We had a Disney honeymoon, and you should have heard the reactions to that one (not from our friends or family, but strangers). "Why would you go to a kiddie park for your honeymoon?" What do these people think, that WDW is like a bigger version of the county fair? :sad2: Some people will never even give Disney a try, but the way I look at it, that's okay! Shorter lines for the rest of us! :thumbsup2

My entire family loves WDW, so when we say "Hey, we're going to WDW this summer!" to my SIL or MIL, they always get excited and start asking questions like "Where are you staying?" "Where did you make ADR's to?" "What parks on which days?". Of course I have a WDW planning guide that I make before every trip specifying the resorts and "must-have pictures", the parks, descriptions, and what rides are "must-do's" and the restaurants and their complete menus and what is good and what isn't...

The thing is, most people don't really understand what Disney is all about. People actually do think it's just you're average amusement park. I used to think I was crazy but thanks to the DIS, I know there are hundreds of thousands of people out there just like me. I am proud of my love of Disney and feel sorry for those too indulged in the real world to be able to appreciate it! pirate:

No, I don't think it's odd at all! I don't feel embarrassed when I get those looks or asked why on earth I'd want to go to a kid's park again! I'm 21 too, and I've been going almost every year since I was 4. (I was lucky enough to have a single-mother who scrimped and saved every penny, and when she couldn't make it, my father and family helped us get there.) Now that I'm older and financially sound, I'm really proud and grateful to be able to go-- with or without children!

I always reply to the "You're going again?!?!" question with a list of things that WDW has to offer besides the normal park activities. ( top notch dining, horseback riding, surfing, parasailing, fishing, safari wildlife, romantic beaches, swing dancing, etc etc...:rotfl: ) After I finish telling them about how much fun it is to have every fun vacation activity you've wanted to try right at your finger tips, the response is usually "If I wanted to go to Disney, would you help me plan it?"

Don't let what others think get you down, if you don't enjoy life for yourself, who will? Do what makes you and yours happy, forget the rest! They'll never know what they're missing. :cloud9:

To the OP: I was older than you are the FIRST time I went to WDW!! I will be 55 when DH and I return to WDW for what will be our 7th trip in 8 years!! There are some people I feel funny telling but I have found a surprising amount of people out there who are just as crazy about WDW as I am!! Got into a conversation on the deli line at BJ's a few months back with a woman and her family -- we spent about 20 minutes talking about Disney World!! There are more of us out there than you realize!! Have a great trip!!

I do not feel embarassed at all!!! If and when someone laughs at me, they are the ones with a problem not me! I am the normal one.

Oh please. I'd like to shout it from the rooftops that we're going to the most magical place on Earth.

Haha, I know exactly what you mean! I have mentioned a Disney Wedding countless times and I always get that look of "you are crazy." DBF is all for it and so his family. The people in my family are such party poopers! You should order the free Disney Wedding DVD from www.disneyweddings.com and make your family watch it. :rotfl:

:lmao: That's awesome! Oh believe me - every now and then they show a Walt Disney World Wedding special on Food Network - and every time it's on I watch it! I just love it! The first time I saw it, I even took NOTES about how much each thing costs!! ;) (Catering, a carriage ride, rehearsal dinner, etc.) I would looooove to have a Disney wedding, but first I have to find my prince charming!

That's so cool! Okay, I know we're :offtopic: but I have to say, I love the couple of Tera Lee and Ricky. With the $70,000 wedding!!! They had an amazing wedding and I'm so jealous!

Why is it that when people say they are going to Panama, Daytona, or some other beach, they don't get that "AGAIN??" question, but when it's WDW people say it. I have co-workers who go to the beach ever summer and nobody says anything to them, but when I say I'm going to Disney they say "Why would you want to go there again??"

"Does anyone feel embarassed?" I say... "Hell no!!!" This will be my 15th time there in 30 years! I can't wait!!

Annie, i'm 25 years old and deal with military regularly. This is the second time I have been to DisneyWorld in 6 months. Let me tell you what, when I told them I was going a second time they thought i was crazy. WOW I'm taken my mom too. We might actually decide to check out grand flordian ourselvs. I am just waiting to see if anything opens up at the Poly thats where I really want to stay. Side tracked. Anyways I don't care what anyone thinks about it. I love Disney always have and always will. Maybe they think I'm weird, go to gym, go to work, plan for disney, go to sleep, repeat 7 days a week. Bah, thats Deployment for ya. Scorchen Hot Djibouti. Anyways, you going to be there between the 12th and the 17th? Would ya be intrested in a night out to PI, considering your 21 and can. I've been looken for groups of DISers not sure how many are going.

No way. My Wife and I have been going to WDW and Disneyland for years by ourselves. Everyone I work with knows how much we love Disney. In the last 4 years we have gone with two other couples who love WDW too.

Oh I really wouldn't let it bother me what others thought of where I'm going on holiday, at the end of the day it's ME and my BF going, so who else needs to be bothered? It's the place we've chosen to go and visit, and I couldn't think of a more magical place on earth, and I'm 23, I'll be 24 when I acutally arrive there!

And I'll more than likely be back there a few years after that...let them say/think what they like, if they don't like it, it's easy enough for them not to go, but hey, we all know it's those people who'll be missing out ;)

my best friend and i (both 22) just went to celebrate our college graduations--some people thought we were crazy but we had a blast

If I were you, I would not be emabarassed at all. I loved Disney before I had kids too. The people who think you are strange for going without kids are probably the same ones who think I shouldn't go now because my kids are too little. Later they will think I shouldn't go because I've been there already and I should experience more of the world. In short, they just don't get what draws so many people to Disney year after year. When people question my choice of vacation destination, I just launch into my "Why I love WDW so much" speech. They usually don't ask again, whether I've convinced them or they just don't want a 45 minute Disney commerical again I don't know.

Everyone I know knows of my Disney obsession, so I don't even get questions any more. I am always proud and excited to let everyone know I'm going, and most everyone is excited for me now. :goodvibes
