I know that its popular at non DVC Disney resorts to fax requests before you arrive or to fax to let them know of a special occasion etc.
Do people do that at DVC resorts as well?
We will be on our first DVC trip at BCV in Oct celebtrating my sister's wedding at Disney.
My parents have never been to Disney before and I want to make it as special as possible!
I thought an Epcot view would be extra nice but I already requested this at the time of my reservation. So is it really necessary to fax this beforehand?

To answer your question: Yes, people do FAX specific requests prior to arrival at DVC resorts.

Having said that, DVC requests work on a first-come-first-served basis. The date your reservation is made is the controlling factor in having your requests honored. For instance, if you request a particular room location you'll get it if (1) it's available and (2) someone who made their reservation earlier did not have the same request.

allicat...we have had a room assignment CM on this board tell us that faxing requests a few days before arrival doesn't aid in getting requests. I know what you mean about the resorts...we had done this at WL a couple of times and it worked well.

But as Lew pointed out, the requests are filled in chronological order for DVC stays. So really the first requests to be honored would be the ones made at the 11 month reservation time. I believe this is another advantage you get at your DVC "home" as part of the 11 month/7month booking advantage.

I'm sure that faxing can't hurt...but supposedly it doesn't help.

Have a wonderful trip!

Not anymore. I used to, but I have found that requests made at the time of reservation tend to get filled more often.

I send a fax when we stay at OKW since it's a large resort and to futher explain what I'm looking for and alternates if the first choice is not available. For example, when we went in May I requested non smoking, Turtle Pond Road, water view, second floor. I sent a fax restating the requests and saying we were looking for a quiet area (some building have bus noise problems) and first floor would be OK if second was not available but not handicapped. We got a perfect first floor room in building 31.
