I was looking through pics with the kids and I was showing them pics from the disneymoon in 1991. I had a pictures of a great big foil wrapped mickey ears from Chef Mickeys. I remember the restaurant actually had an MC and he would come into teh dining room and announce different things, birthdays or anniversaries or (for us) honeymoon. But... if I remember it was in DTD (which wasn't DTD back then it was the Shopping Village ?or something like that) But I could swear it was there.

Can anyone verify this?

You're right. It was Chef Mickey's Village Restaurant in Disney Village Marketplace. It was in the area where Rain Forest Cafe is now located.

1991 was my first trip to WDW and we stumbled upon the Village Marketplace...I actually still call that area the Market Place not DTD!!! I LOVED it back then as people did not know about it so it wasn't crowded. It was a peaceful dose of Disney without having to buy a ticket.:thumbsup2

I really loved the Christmas shop they had then.It was awesome with this probably 12 foot tree with characters all around it.I specifically remember Huey,Dewey and Louie on each others shoulders decorating the tree.

I loved Chef Mickey's at DTD. I remember the first time we ate there I had ribs they were so good & they had the huge Mickey Head S&P shakers. No ADR's either.

Not sure, but I think it was on the boat that now houses Fulton's.

Yes, Chef Mickey's Village Restaurant in DTD. There was a character breakfast with Mickey on the Empress Lily Paddle Wheeler. Named for Walt's wife, Lily. Known as Fulton's since 1996.

Here is a website with a vintage picture of the Empress Lily. It's interesting to note in the picture that there are no boat docks for the water boats to POR, which wasn't built until (I think) 1991.

I don't believe Chef Mickey's was on the Empress Lily/Fultons. I know for sure it wasn't in 1991 because that's when I was there and it was on land!

You can see on the map in the 3rd link I posted that they are separate restaurants with Chef Mickey's located in the area where the RFC now stands.

I found this...the Empress Lily was one of the first places to have a character breakfast! But it was never Chef Mickeys.

Chef Mickey's was in a building which it shared with a high-end jewelry store called 24 Carrots. The building it was in was torn down and replaced by the Rainforest Cafe. It was regular table service and not a buffet.

It was never in The Empress Lilly. EL had several restaurants. One of them had Mickey at breakfast. Here is a link to a very good and accurate article about it.

There was a character dinning experience on the Empress Lilly in the 80s as we went there for breakfast on our first trip as a family in 1983.

We also went to the Chef Mickeys in the restaurant on land at Disney Market place in about 1991. Not been to it since though, should do that next time!

well at least I am not dreaming - it was where I thought it was. :) Yay me. The mind hasn't gone yet. :lmao: The map of pleasure island brought back memories of "when every night was new years eve". Good times for a 23 year old 'just married'. very good times.

in the 80's we had breakfast on the empress lilly too - you had special "seating time' to arrive - and everyone arrived and left at the same time. It was one of the first character breakfasts we ever did. Maybe they just didn't have them before that?

Amazing how so much has changed lol. Now I can't remember if the Empress Lil was very small OR if it was just that people were seated in sections of the boat.

We did the Empress Lily character breakfast back in 93. It was funny, I will NEVER forget that breakfast. We were the biggest family there (we were a party of 8) and we were the only kids :scared1: lol. BUt it was funny because the other adults around us were happy for us when we saw the characters, like everyone was watching haha and laughing when we met Mickey, Goofy, Pluto, Minnie, and Donald and his interaction with us. The characters came out one at a time and really took their time with us. The last character to come out was Mickey and we have such a nice picture of our while family with Mickey. I love it. I will always cherish it. That was our first trip to the world.

We also ate at the Chef Mickey's I think the following year, I don't remember much about it.
And I remember Minnie Mia's Pizzeria. We have a video tape of me and my sister (haha we were 2 and 9 then) dancing outside to the Italian music while our family finished eating. Such good memories.
Ah, this is why I love WDW.

when did they move it to the contemporary?? i seem to remember, and maybe can dig up pictures of a character breakfast in the contemporary in 1990?? maybe i'm losing it?

I didn't go to CM's when it was at DTD. However, I did do the character breakfast that used to be where CM's is now at CR. I was 4 at the time but I remember that Robin Hood and Prince John where there. I also remember a meal that had Br'er Fox and Chip and Dale but I don't remember if it was the same meal or if some of my memories from that first trip have been mashed together.

I know there was a character breakfast on the Empress Lilly in 1991 because we went to it. It wasn't Chef Mickey's though.

All of the kids got this neat yellow pennant as part of the experience. I stilll have it somewhere. We stayed off site and I found out about it in a ...ready for this? A book. No internet back or DisBoards back then. Not sure how I planned a vacation back then but we managed. DD was 3 at the time and wanted Mickey to sign her pennant but it was already printed with signatures so he pointed at it and shook his head no and signed her autograph book.

I also have a photo album with journaling about us arriving early and visiting the Disney Market Place. It was a cool area and nothing like the bustling place it is now.

I remember taking DS 2 to Chef Mickey's in DTD when he was 2. DS was thrilled. Mickey spent a lot of time at our table and even escorted DS out when we were ready to go. It was adorable. I treasure the pictures. DS is almost 21 and will be doing the Disney College Program this Fall. Time has flown, but our love for Disney is still there. I'm stopping myself now before I make myself cry!!!

there was a character breakfast @ contemporary I think it may have been at the contemporary cafe? I remember Tigger was there and Chip and Dale and I am sure others, but those are who I remember.

I remember Chip and Dale... and Pluto and I think Goofy--- I know for sure I have a picture with Pluto because I have a picture with my head leaning on him... I had a bowl hair cut and a Minnie Mouse sailor shirt on, lol.

My friends and I went to the Character breakfast when it was in the Contemporary in 1991 on the last day of our senior week trip. I don't remember alll the characters that were there but I have pics of Goofy, Pluto and The White Rabbit. I remember I had a really bad sunburn (we all did, stupidly forgot sunscreen at Typhoon Lagoon the day before! :sad2:) and Goofy came up and put his hand on my shoulder, oh wow did I see stars!:scared1: I wish I could post the pic but i don't have a scanner.

I recall going to Chef Mickeys with my parents when it was at the Village but I don't know what year it was.

maybe they didn't have a set schedule of characters. Maybe it changed daily, weekly, or monthly? I remember Tigger b/c we were sitting up on a stage and every time he walked behind us he would hit my mom's pony tail lol.
