Does anyone else put sugar in their sauce?

Not italian here, but I make my own sauce when I have time. I do add sugar. And chili powder.

I always add a little sugar to my homemade sauce but never to jar. jar sauce is way too sweet to me already.

I always make my own sauce--I can't stand the jarred ones. I do use sugar, but very little, maybe 1/4 tsp or so for a 28 oz. can of tomatoes.

I don't add suger to homemade sauce, and most jarred sauces are already too sweet for me. There are a few brands I stick with because they're not as sweet. But then, I just don't like really sweet things anyway.

My mom always puts sugar in her sauce. Not until college did I realize that spaghetti sauce isn't supposed to be sweet.

Now, when I make my own sauce (never use jarred), I do not add sugar. And, I can't stand my mom's sweet sauce

Irish here, and I always add a bit of sugar to my homemade sauce. My Mom always did, so I do. My DH now insists that every restaurant used jarred sauce because it does not taste like mine. :goodvibes

I don't make my own sauce (can someone give me a recipe, the jar sauce just has too many additives, but I don't have a clue how to make spaghetti sauce), but I add sugar to my chili, it takes a bite out of the chili powder. I grew up in Cincinnati where Skyline Chili is king and in Skyline Chili there is chocolate and cinnamon. Come to think of it Montgomery Inn bbq sauce, another Cincinnati classic, is pretty sweet too. I guess Cincinnatians like it sweet!!

My sister does that. It supposedly gets rid of the acid from the tomatoes. It's okay that way, but I never do it. Tastes too sweet to me.

I put a little bit in my homemade sauce as well, but like others, I've never added sugar to jarred sauce either. :)
