Does anyone else pee on a stick ????

I am doing Atkins and have bought these ketostix that tell you whether you are doing the diet properly or not.

This is the first time since I did a pregnancy test 10 years ago that I have had to pee on a stick !!!!!!

Still all my results to date have been purple which I think is good news.

However I just wanted some feedback from those also on Atkins as to their own experiences, good or not, with "the purple sticks".

Does the fact that mine are purple means that I am continuing to lose weight?

Can you put weight on whilst the stick show purple ?

Anyones help would be appreciated.........:confused:
 
I use the ketostix.

Yes, you can gain weight even if the stick turns purple. All the ketostix measures is the amount of ketones in your urine. When the stick changes color it means you are in ketosis. The color isn't important, as long as it changes color. Seeing purple doesn't mean you are burning more fat than if it only turned pink.

Yep. I do. After weeks of practice, I can now do it without splashing, too! :o :o :p :o :teeth:
 
I am a bit confused......

It says in Dr Atkins book that some of his patients like the chemical message a purple stick gives "that I am losing weight "

If you CAN gain weight whilst in ketosis thats a worry........

Anyone know how ?

I just assumed that I was on the right track if the sticks turn pink/purple ..........

We use them also, but not every day.

I'm still going by how my clothes are feeling, and the scale. I started at dark purple, and now am at dark pink. As long as there's something going on..... I won't complain.......... MUCH!!!:)
 
You aren't likely gaining weight if you are following the program correctly.

However, if, for example, you drank alcohol everyday, you could still be in ketosis but instead of using your body fat for fuel you would use the alcohol for fuel.


You can consume more calories on Atkins and still lose weight but there is still a limit to how much you can eat. If you consume 10,000 calories everyday for a week, whether or not you are in ketosis, you will start to gain.


Ketosis is not a super power that protects you from gaining weight or overeating, except that when you are in ketosis your appetite is reduced.

I think I need DixieDreamer or dizneegirl to explain this to you. They are better at explaining than I am.

I may be panicking(I'm a worrier).

I am still eating the same as I have been on Induction. I am finishing week 3 .

I just thought that ketosis meant you wouldn't gain weight . I haven't eaten any "forbidden" food so I suppose I will still lose some weight.

Only difference is that over the last couple of days I have started to feel hungry and wanted chocolate and sweets. I didn't have any but wondered why I felt that way.

Also I haven't drunk much water...........

Anyone got any suggestions ( before I cave in and eat something I shouldn't )

Ketosis will not protect your from the cravings caused by hormonal fluctuations (I'm being delicate ;) . In other words, if your TOM (time of month) is impending, that could explain your cravings.

If you are hungry...eat. Eat protein with a little fat. Eat sugar free jello and real whipped cream.

I went into a chat room 2 weeks ago re WDW and got left behind. I wasn't quick enough and mostly didn't understand what anyone was saying.....LOL

Don't feel bad. I chat and mostly get left behind. :)

Hang in there and try try again. It is a lot of fun, you'll get used to it after a few times.

Hi, I used to do the ketostix but stopped after the first few months.

Don't get too despondent, the cravings still occur after 5+ months - you just have to have a great big glass of water and stare at an old photo - well that's what I do - I have the worst one of me taped to the fridge along with one of me when I was 21 and a size 8(US4-6)

I have been on and off induction cos it seems every time i start to creep up the scale, gradually increasing the carbs, I stall!! Never mind I've still snuck in the odd trat - usually after a big loss. I've changed my pattern around - rather than cheat after a stall or a small gain, I only cheat if I've lost over 2lbs.

The cravings can sometimes be horrible - all you want is that feel inyour mouth of a crunchy piece of toast - now I grab a pepperami or a slice of ryvita with pate.

Stick with it - It's worth it!!!
 
As long as Ryvita does not contain white flour, rice flour or sugar you can have it :)

What <i>is</i> Ryvita. I'm only an honorary Brit, I don't know all this stuff yet.
