Does anyone else just not get Duffy....

Whoops, sorry....It sounds more macabre when I type it out than it actually was at the time...:) (she knew we were teasing her)

Different senses of humor I guess...we are a family who loves horror movies, Dario Argento is considered a great director in our family!! :) And my niece is quite the comedienne, we think she'll be the next Carol Burnett! ha! :)

I will never look at the pavillion the same again....:lmao:

Not my interest, but to each their own. I had an art professor one time SLAM Precious Moments in an art lecture. Did he know my Grandmother just passed away and she loved giving us Precious Moment? No. To him it was not art, but to someone else it was and it had meaning.

I don't get Duffy, nor care to. But that does not take away the importance or relevance he is to someone else. Go hug and dress your bear!!!

We got our Duffy Christmas ornament in 2005 on our first family trip together. I am a huge Mickey fan & love teddy bears. So this Duffy just made sense.

We read the Duffy story every year as a family when we put him on our Disney tree, though the story goes, Mickey was alone in the park & Duffy was there to comfort him. Hence he has a hidden Mickey on his face & paws.

Not sure about this new story since we love the story we know...

That's the one I have. He was pink when I bought him on our last trip. That was a while back - see my ticker - so he has some wear to him now.

I got him as a keychain and he's 4 inches tall. And 3 not so Hidden Mickeys - one on each foot (paw) and his bum.

Duffy FIRST came out as a Mickey bear about 7 years ago as I have the 3 ft one and they had smaller ones that I bought as baby gifts that were about 12 inches long. Got mine at Gateway shops in Epcot. Then never seen any of them but the smallest one for years and all of a sudden they came out with same bear as Duffy and he is a tan color now instead of a very light brown. same bear.

I wonder if those who do not like Duffy because he's not an "original" feel the same way about Elmo on Sesame Street?

Yes, yes I do.

Or, I did until I read the reason the character was invented. Apparently, many of the muppet characters were supposed to represent six-year olds, the "target" audience when Sesame Street first debuted. Over the years, that age got lower, and they wanted a new character that the younger children could relate to. Elmo was the result.

You should watch the documentary "Being Elmo" about Kevin Clash. Very good.
Elmo was going nowhere until Kevin breathed life into him.

I thought I was the only one! I feel like they just picked a random animal, gave it a name, and stuck it on a shelf for people to buy. He isn't from a movie or anything disney related, so I just don't see the point. I mean it's cute that he has Mickey mouses on his paws and one on his face but it just seems like they made a huge deal about it when it's not even true Disney in my opinion.

I'm taking my son for his fifth birthday and he can't wait to get his duffy!! He is really hoping the peter pan outfit is available so they can wear matching outfits for Pirate and Pal cruise:)

As much as I don't really get Duffy, my 7yoDS LOVES him! I don't think it was because it was a Disney thing. It was just a cute bear he saw at Disney. We had never seen him before, but he fell in love with Duffy and *had* to have one. I was very pleased, however, that he chose a Duffy that was wearing a Goofy hat and shirt, so it is Disneyish! We just got back, and the meet and greet with Duffy always had a huge line!

I know that Duffy isn't part of the Disney canon, but we're still determined to get a Duffy in his chef outfit from F&W this year. Our stuffies can always use another cook!

Do you collect chef-related plushes? If you do, that sounds like a really cute collection! (Also, I would hope Remy is part of it.) I collect stuffed animals, and a chef theme sounds like it would be an interesting collection.

I don't really get Duffy and I think he's a little overdone in the parks, but I can see how he appeals to a lot of people, especially young kids.
I think it would be interesting if there were outfits related to attractions in the parks other than the countries in Epcot. (Of course, a lot of people probably can guess what I'd want: Duffy dressed like Captain EO! A Dreamfinder suit would also be awesome, although I think I'd prefer Figment wearing it.) Even Duffy outfits modeled after the CMs costumes could be cute, and that would help Duffy seem more relevant to the parks and Disney in general.

I think Duffy's cute, but I'm a sucker for teddy bears. I wish the US parks would get his girlfriend, Shellie May. Now she is adorable. :)

I don't care for Duffy either, but to each his own...the only thing that really irks me about him is he is now front and center on the newest WDW license plate frame and I do not think he should be there. I was very disappointed and did not buy it because of that, and I really need a new one badly. :sad2:

Well for those of you who think Duffy came out of nowhere or don't think there is a backstory to him here is a photo of the front and back cover of his story book dated back to 2005.... it may have even been out prior to that....

They only new thing is that they decided to officially name him, rather than just calling him 'Disney Bear'...that's all...

sorry for the poor picture quality it was the best I could get for right now...

I love Duffy. He's certainly not intended to replace Mickey, so I'm not worried about him

We love him too and his story. It's adorable. We love that his face has the mickey head shape on it and his paws have mickey heads on them too! so cute.

We are getting ready to leave so last night I was showing my kids videos of the parks... they saw Duffy and the older two were just like "what is that?" :happytv: I have to admit seeing pictures he just doesn't feel like a Disney character to me, hopefully in person he is cute to them. Then again, DS wanted to know why "Mickey doesn't have a cuddle Gabe? I have cuddle Mickey." He carries around the chocolate scented Mickey from Easter everywhere.

I can't believe my DD (who spent the day dressed as a pirate) told me that strange bear is creeping her out.

I get the idea of Duffy.

Disney saw they had a gap in their merchandise for a "proper" teddy bear. None of Disney's existing Bear characters really would translate to teddy bear form. So they created an original one.

Thats fine, i'm happy with that. The little backstory and everything is fine.

HOWEVER it became massively popular in Japan, which meant that Duffy started getting pushed very heavily in WDW. with meet & greets, huge amounts of merchandise and advertisements.

This is where most people have a problem. Not with Duffy existing but in his being overused.

LOL :scratchin - sounds like something my DD would say! Eh, I don't get the whole Duffy thing either. But to each his own.

I know he's getting pretty popular but is there anyone else out there that just not get the Duffy thing???

I guess I'm a Disney purist so when I see some random bear and they make a big hype over it, it just kind of kills the magic for me a bit!

It's like i'm zapped into any other generic theme park looking at this dumb bear. I know they have created a whole back story about it in Japan but keep him there!

I guess if there was actually some movie clip from years back showing Mickey with a bear that resembled Duffy I could try to get over it but he just irritates me! lol! anyone else? your thoughts for or against Duffy?

Help me not feel alone or share your reasons why you like him and help me try and accept him into the Disney family. :)

We don't get it either, so we just ignore him. Too many other characters that "fit" to us, so we really never even "look" at him. ;)

I'm not a fan either...like someone else said...it's like another build a bear thing....just not for me.
