Does anyone else just not get Duffy....

Duffy's cute, and I like having something that's specifically from the parks and not a movie tie-in.

I don't like Sassy Tink. I like good old Tinkerbell, but not giant-eyed, semi sleazy, extremely sassy Tink. She annoys me.

Same here. I think if they wanted a different character, they should have just used a new character instead of retconning a beloved older one.

I am too not a big fan of Duffy. He is cute but not sure why we need him....

However my youngest at 8 years old had to have Duffy dressed in his 2011 outfit....he sleeps with him every night and adores him...not sure of the fascination.

I don't really understand Duffy or why he suddenly appeared. But i'm sure lots of people (especially children) love him, and he's cute.

It certainly won't make my expereince any less enjoyable to have in the park so he's fine by me :goodvibes

Duffy is Disney's teddybear. Most people like a good old fashioned teddybear, why not have one that's from Disney?

He isn't a character. He's a bear with cute outfits.

And he sucks.

I don't like Sassy Tink. I like good old Tinkerbell, but not giant-eyed, semi sleazy, extremely sassy Tink. She annoys me. But I can't actually work up hatred for her.

I hate the stuffing out of Duffy.

LOL! My youngest daughter wanted a Tink comforter when she was 3. I looked online and about had a cow! Tink was posed like a call girl waiting on a customer! :rotfl2: Needless to say, she got a Dora comforter.

I've never gotten him either. I feel like someone in a board room said, "Let's throw a random teddy bear out there with no ties to any Disney story. Let's hype him up and see how many people throw money at us for the dumb bear."

I guess the reason I don't like Duffy is that it's so un-Disney. For the most part the stories and characters from the movies and shows turn into park merchandise and even attractions or attractions and park merchandise inspire movies. Duffy has no background, no connection. I buy my son McQueen cars because he acts out the movies and creates new scenes based on the personalities he's come to know and love. Duffy has... none of that.

Wow. Some of the hatred for a fictional character expressed in this thread is....interesting.

We are a Duffy house. My DS3 has slept with him every night for years. And we have read the book long before we ever purchased him. He is the favourite bear.

It's one thing to not "get it", if you haven't taken the time to look into the backstory and history but it's another, in my opinion, to begrudge someone else of the enjoyment they might get from such a character.

I know others have called him "creepy," but think that Duffy is actually one of the most approachable characters for very small children. Some of the others can be scary, even if we adults don't see it that way. So I am pleased that Disney is offering something that the preschool crowd (among others) can really enjoy.

He just seems kind of generic, or non disney-esque to me.

I do believe that that is the point. His Disney detailing is subtle. He is supposed to be a generic teddy bear. It's all right there in the story which came out a loooong time ago.

I don't like him. Disney was trying to make him the next big thing, but that didn't happen.

I'm not quite sure you can make that statement. I've seen others say that too but what is it based on? Is there proof somewhere that he isn't selling like they hoped he would?

I loved it when EPCOT first introduced Figment & he wasn't attached to any disney movie or character and I love Figment too! I kinda think of Duffy as something similar to that.

Exactly. There are lots of characters that the average guest doesn't know the backstory of. For instance, people complaining that they present Tink as a diva. Well, have these people not seen Peter Pan? She is! Then there are the characters like Figment who have no movie to back them up. What about the Orange Bird that just came back to Adventureland?

All those who think that Duffy was created solely to make money, hate to break it to you, but all of Disney was created to make money..

That's right. Disney doesn't create movies to warm the cockles of your heart. They make movies so that they can sell merchandise. This is a slightly different approach but the end result is the same. Who cares?

If you're not interested in him it's hard to escape him.

Again, so what? The same could be said for the Princesses, the Fab 5, Pirates, etc. Just walk on by if it's not your cup of tea.

He isn't a character. He's a bear with cute outfits. And he sucks.

Actually, he is. You can meet and greet him. I think that counts as a character. And he's certainly more life-like than characters like Lightening MacQueen and Buzz and Woody. Not to mention that he has been around (in non-character form) for a lot longer than many of the other characters that you'll meet in the parks.

This type of thread is fairly unbalanced. It always attracks the negative view because people like to rant, vent and complain.

I consider myself somewhat of a disney "nerd" and visit 3-4 times a year and never heard of or saw Duffy until a year or two ago... I'm sure much the "hatred for a fictional bear" is very much tongue in cheek and having some fun. :rolleyes1 :confused3

I think you hit the nail on the head when you said your 3 year old likes the bear and it's the favorite bear in your house. It seems most people who have brought him home have little ones those very young ones would have no clue that he has not always been a permanent disney fixture or themed or anything... they have no concept of any of that.. they see a cute bear, they want it. end of story. It does not occur to them that they are in disney world so most people would likely choose a disney character. ::MickeyMo

For those who dislike the sassy, bratty Tink in favor of the "original" one, have you watched Peter Pan recently? She was nasty in the original movie!

She was "Tink with 'tude" and I liked her, warts and all! :rotfl:

Just because you weren't aware of Duffy, doesn't mean that he didn't exist. As someone else mentioned, the book has been around for a long time. He was first known as the Disney Bear.

And toddlers aren't stupid. My DS was well aware that we were in Walt Disney World and knows more about WDW than most adults I know. He purposely picked out the bear because he had the story book first and wanted to own Mickey's bear.

And if it makes the under 6 crowd happy, isn't that reason enough to promote Duffy?

Exactly! She tries to have the Lost Boys KILL Wendy. She a jealous mean Fairy in that movie.

I think he's cute. We bought one for DD, who is 1 and she loves him. I did see Duffy on Grey's Anatomy last night. lol. Nice little cameo for him. :lmao:

We were in Epcot the day Duffy was released and waited in line so my daughter could meet him. Yes, we bought her a bear and some outfits, and she still sleeps with him. After we got him home, we realized that he looks exactly like a Disney Bear we bought for her at the World of Disney on 5th Ave in NYC in 2005. The only difference is the one from NYC is dark brown and a little smaller. She calls him Duffy's Brother, LOL. She's really hoping that Disney brings Duffy's girlfriend to the US so she can get her too.

I like Duffy. My daughter loves Duffy as you can see from my siggy pic, and we will be going to see him again in December, if she wants to. He makes her happy so that makes us happy.

I love Duffy and so does my friend. Just because he doesn't have a movie or tv show people say he's not Disney..... Neither does the orange bird...granted he's been around a long time but he's just a marketing character like Tony the Tiger... Etc... I do like both those characters too.

Duffy is cute it's nice to have a cute teddy that doesnt scream Disney. It's just Disney enough.

When we were there last June, none of us knew who Duffy was.

Out of the blue my niece (9 at the time) decided Duffy was Mickey's alcoholic cousin they didn't talk much about!:rotfl::rotfl:

We also convinced her that they sacrificed little girls during dinner on top of the temple in the Mexican Pavillion. She was so upset when she realized we weren't eating in there.:rotfl:

Wow

Whoops, sorry....It sounds more macabre when I type it out than it actually was at the time...:) (she knew we were teasing her)

Different senses of humor I guess...we are a family who loves horror movies, Dario Argento is considered a great director in our family!! :) And my niece is quite the comedienne, we think she'll be the next Carol Burnett! ha! :)

We love Duffy! Bought him a couple of trips ago! We have had fun buying him outfits! Can't wait to take him back to the world and buy him some more outfits!:rotfl:
