Does anyone else have a problem with the cost of food for children???

I haven't read the entire thread yet but for what it is worth, no, I don't have a problem with it. My kids are 4 and 6 so we still pay "kid" prices for a few more years. Yes, the character meals are pricier at paying $12 for them but I know that going in and still choose to eat there. Since we go for the character interaction and the kids view that as a FUN meal so we enjoy doing it with them. DH and I had said before that when we got to age 10, we probably wouldn't do them but by then the kids won't mind. Of course that was before we knew baby #3 was on the way and will be at prime character meal age while the older ones are in the "pay adult price" range. But we will deal with that when the time comes. It will still be a choice for us.

At the sit down restaurants, kids can order from whichever menu they want. The kids meals are priced pretty much the same as they are at many of the restaurants we visit at home so I can't complain. $5 is OK with me there. A few times we've ordered one adult meal to split between the boys to have a healthier option and that is fine with us too as it is our choice to do that, no one forces us to. I do agree that with little kids, the dining plan is a good option. That way your food costs are pretty much set.

No they are not weird. I work hard for my money. I love Disney but I will voice my concern over the price of food. If you think the value is great than you must be loaded. The average person I believe would agree the price of the food is VERY!!!!! expensive. People laugh in the food line when you joke about the price of things. I do choose to eat at some of the nicer places but again the price is expensive.

You're not just voicing your concern; you're lying about your child's age because you feel somehow entitled to eat at a restaurant that it sounds like you can't (or dont' want to) afford. Bizarre...

And, FYI, Disney does indeed take people like you into account when they determine prices. The price the adults pay is higher, because of those like you who lie about their kids' ages. You will eventually be stuck with the tab for your deceit, when your kids are too old for you to pass them off as toddlers any more. I don't worry about people who lie, because I know that Disney is smart enough to realize that they get ALL kinds of customers and work that into their pricing schemes.

Just don't go if you can't afford it. I don't get this complaining. Disney has plenty of counter service options for people who can't afford table service. You also have the option of leaving Disney property or going somewhere else entirely for vacation. No one is twisting your arm.

I still don't get it...

TnKrBeLlA012...........are you the long lost sister of VintageKnight? Maybe a distant relative? Do you eat at Sonic? If not, would you like to hitch a ride to one with us? Maybe you can steal us a couple slushies.

:lmao: Fruit Salad anyone??????

Sorry that was :offtopic: so here we go: OP i still think you are wrong, it says so in my mensa book ;)

I will tell you I have a 21 and a 19 year old...No drugs, sex, drinking, police trouble or depression problems. They have never stole and are the nicest girls you would meet...They are probably better than alot of other people's children I have seen.

They don't need to steal, they have a mother to do that for them...one criminal is enough for most families.

You don't like the price...go somewhere else...be lucky you have that choice.

Two points...

Only a living being can be healthy (or not healthy.) Food (which is usually dead when we eat it) is either healthful or not healthful. The exception being, of course, those live goldfish that seem so popular at fraternities nation-wide. ;)

OP: How can we trust what you say about your 'alleged' older children when you have openly admitted lying about a 3 year old? We can't. You have no credibility. Even if you are telling the truth, your kids are probably drop-outs who are lying to you, because you've taught them by example that lying is ok. Good luck untangling those webs.... :rotfl2:

I think you are totally missing the point. The majority would concede that prices are high, but that doesn't mean it's okay to steal the food! I think the prices of a lot of things I want (or need) are high, but I don't snatch them off the shelves at Target and go running out the door with them! :rotfl:

Well said - while ITA that the prices at the disney restaruants are expensive its a choice, pay the price or eat elsewhere. IMHO the choice dosen't include lying to get something you deem too expensive for free or at a reduced price.

I have an 10yo dd that eats very healthy but also very little. I choose where we eat based on what she likes and the prices I am willing to pay. Often she chooses a salad and an appetizer instead of an entree -kid or adult. For this reason the dining plans don't work well for us nor do the buffets or all you can eats. I simply don't buy the dining plan rather than trying to pass my 10yo off for 9 to get a discount I am not entitled to.

If we do choose a character all you can eat meal I simply consider the cost as an entertainment fee. Again my choice, accept the price or choose something else rather than alter the price to fit my idea of what it's worth. It may not be worth the $$ to dine with Lilo and Stitch in which case we just wait in line and meet them for "free".

I do find that by having breakfast in the room, a nice table service late lunch and then counter service for dinner we manage to eat very well at a more reasonable cost.

This is just a thought. I'm thinking Disney probably would let this serious crime slide. It may be wishful thinking but They probably have bigger issues to deal with. Call me crazy but it's a thought. Now how would security be called in on this. Would it be like a stake out?? Would they take her into a room and question her? She is only three by two months. Maybe thay have decoys set up looking for three year olds posing as two year olds???

IMHO because the restaurants are letting this slide it costs us all more. You may never think of "lifting something" from Target but because of those who do we all pay a little more for everything. What's the difference I ask you?

Actually they do have CM's who are trained at the turnstyles to detect those over 3 that are entering without a ticket. If someone is "caught" they will not let the child in and security could be called in.

First off, let me say I AM NOT LOADED. I'm a single mother, I teach kindergarten in a city funded day care center.

I think WDW is a great value compared to 6 Flags, Bronx Zoo, anything at Madison Square Garden, Yankee/Shea Stadium, US Open..

No one is forcing any of us to spend our hard earned money with the Mouse.

I completely agree!! DH and I took our 3 kids earlier this summer to a Phillies/Yankees game in Philly. Tickets $40-that's fine and normal for a professional baseball game. I bought 2 of the kids food (steak sandwich, hotdog, fries), 3 drinks and a beer for my DH and the bill was almost $90. By the time we left, we had spent another $75 on water ice, poopcorn and an order of crab fries (SO GOOD). Anyway, my point is that I really don't think counter service food is all that $$$ at Disney compared to other things/places. It costs over $100 to get our family of 5 into the Philadelphia Zoo. We spent another $65 on lunch (were talking burgers and fries here).

I think you get a lot for the money with Disney and I'm not just talking food. Also, my 7 and 9 year old boys can eat as much as some adults and they really don't like the kid CS choices at Disney (nuggets, mac&cheese). I agree with Bicker about the TS places. We have eaten at many, many TS places that have good, even great kid choices. The CS places leave something to be desired though.

The bottom line is that I think some things are expensive, gas for example. I HAVE to buy it...no choice. If you think disney's food is expensive, you don't HAVE to buy it...you choose to buy it. Why not try the meal plan next time or bring food into the parks with you? I mean, how is long is your child going to pass for under 3?

What I don't get is why anyone would risk getting tosses, having their park passes taken, etc. doing this. As was said, getting caught may be rare, but its happened.

What I REALLY don't get is why people with 1,000+ posts here would risk their reputations and posting privledges by admitting it.

I get it when people with five posts ask it it would be OK to pass their "just turned three year old" off as two. In fact, usually I think they are treated too harshly by DISers. But the OP should know better.

I've posted this a few times recently... seems to be a popular topic:

Le Cellier offers a 6oz Grilled Steak for children. Coral Reef offers children a grilled chicken breast (not nuggets). Chefs de France offers a fried fish plate for children. Rose and Crown has cottage pie, bangers and mash, fish and chips, and grilled chicken on their child menu. Teppanyaki offers a small stir fry with either chicken or shrimp. Nine Dragons offers sweet and sour chicken. San Angel Inn offers children either a burrito or an enchilada. Marrakesh offers couscous. Spoodles offers Grilled Strip Steak and Grilled Chicken. Flying fish offers fish and chips, grilled steak, chicken breast (again, not nuggets).

I'm pretty thoroughly shocked to see so many choices available for children. Choose your restaurants wisely, and your child will be more than pleased.

Thanks for posting this, my DS rarely eats nuggets, fries and the other junk. I will be sure to look into these places for us to eat. I was hoping it wasnt going to be all nuggets, heck he loves salad more than anything.

If you do the dining plan at 10.99 a day, I think that is a fair amount to pay for a whole days food. Perhaps do the dining plan next time!
And I find the dining plan well worth it, even for the kids. Even if you bring your kid to mcdonald's, you're paying almost $4 and not only getting a dessert at WDW, but more food and most of the time better quality (especially when going to the "better restaruants, such as LeCellier)

I have to sum this whole post up with two words. You people are NUTS! You would think I just robbed a bank. I would bank my life that everyone of you have told a lie. Not a lie that would kill someone or put them in jail but a lie. Would that give me the right to carry something so stupid this far. Are we bored or is it that most of you like to fight?? I'm thinking that is the case. She turned three in June. WOW!!!! When I booked it she was two. WOW! We should be so worried. I risked alot by putting this out here???? Again the word crazy comes to mind. Every person I told at work today laughed at the ridiculious comments that some of you made. Calling security? I almost laughed outloud. If I were to poll 50 people I would bet 40 would agree with me. 100%! Get a life!!! Not one of you are saints. Please stop these crazy comments. I personally think alot of you thrive on posts like this. As I stated in the beginning. The price of food for kids is expensive. I don't care if you can or cannot afford it. The price is high. Even some of the people that work there agree.

A little off topic but we paid full third person price for our daughter when she was 5 months old to go on a cruise. Did we think it was fair to charge a five month old? No, but that's their policy and we wanted to go on the cruise so we paid it. Maybe you shouldn't dine at Disney restaurants if you don't like their policy. JMHO

What a sweet story. :goodvibes

OKW mom, did you know that some restaurants will charge a small fee (I think it's $5 at Liberty Tree Tavern) as an "entertainment fee" for someone who will not be dining? If your DD won't be eating there, this could save some money. Next time you go, ask - other character meals might have a similar policy. :)[/QUOTE

What a good tip! You should post that on the Disney Tips board. :)

Did you like it when your neighbor lied about the Coach purse? True, there are different kind of lies- but your defensive posture on this I think indicates that you really do have a little guilt about it deep inside! I'm sure you are a very decent upstanding person- but to know how the disboards are and then post how you didn't pay for your daughter- what did you expect?

You start a thread but we are "crazy" to respond. :confused3
You ask for opinions on a public message board but then ask us to "Please stop these crazy comments". :confused3
I explain to you that I have directly observed guests being escorted to security, yet you "laughed outloud". :confused3
You have five pages of posts telling you lying is wrong, yet you ignore that every time and rehash that "the price is high". :confused3
You pull statistics that you "bet" on out of thin air and expect us to change our morals. :confused3
You lie and say you don't care, but you brag about this on a public forum. :confused3
You are breaking DIS guidelines by advocating breaking WDW policies and rules yet you continue to act surprised that dozens of posters are offended by your actions. :confused3
You ask if we are "bored" or "like to fight" when it is you who posted seeking validation for your lies. You could not have expected people to agree with you and cheer you on "Good for you, lying in front of your child! Way to go" so perhaps that's a little projection - thinking other posters like to fight or are bored for posting, but you are posting for other reasons . . . interesting.
The fact that most people do not lie about their children's ages, does not make them saints, it makes them honest people. We are only as good as our word. So, no, I do not lie or cheat. As I said before, when people are accustomed to lying and cheating they suspect the same in everyone. It's not true. There are honest people out there.
Again, as I said earlier if you posted about high costs, people would have supported you. Instead you are bragging about your lie, which doesn't usually get support.

I think it's funny that you are trying to justify the fact that you lied in order to get food while at WDW. It's not like you NEEDED to lie in order to ensure that your child ate.

I may be opening myself for flames here (I can take it :listen: )but I'm not against all lieing/cheating.

For example if a family has to send their child to an awful school based on where they live, I would not have a problem with them lying about their address in order to send the child to a better school.

So lying to ensure that ones child receives a great education, I don't mind. Lying in order to enjoy a theme park, I think is crazy.
