Does anyone else have a hypothyroid problem?

I was diagnosed with hypothyroid after DS was born (he's 7 now). I could always tell when my medication needed adjusting when I was suddenly very "moody" (bordering on depression). In December I had the whole thyroid removed, and I'm feeling the whole depression thing again while we try to get my levels adjusted. At least this time I know what it is. It wasn't until this year that I saw some literature with info on the symptoms of hypothyroid, and darned if I didn't hit almost every one of them in a very mild way. So I'm guessing this is something that I've had since I was a kid and it went undetected.

Best of luck to you. A teeny pill a day and you'll be fine!

I wish. :( I've been soooo tired for years, and we're pretty sure it's related to thyroid, but nothing's showing up on bloodwork, nothing at all, so I'm stuck with just being too tired to function. :(

I hear you!!
Too tired, too cold, too hot...too much weight, too little energy...Everything seems to go in extremes...

Blood work is "a little off in the normal ranges, but nothing to be concerned about..."says the family doctor...
Who's normal range are we talking about???????I don't have *MY* baseline to compare against...so what if normal for everyone else, is not normal for me? He "really doesn't feel" that additional testing is necessary, despite an extensive family history ( Grandmother,3 aunts and two uncles...all dignosed in mid-30's)....

Sorry for the rant...must be the moodiness!!;);)

Wow Christine, I never equated the charley horses to my hypothyroidism. hmm

Well I was told by one endocrinoligist that I was in complete thyroid failure:confused: But luckily I have bounced:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc back and continue to take my synthroid. i am on a very high dosage though just to manage it. I take .300 mg daily.

I always figured that my hypo symptoms were all weight related...my feet were always freezing but I figured I had poor circulation from being overweight...I would wake up constantly during the night...again I blamed being overweight. I had terrible mood swings...just thought I was moody:rolleyes:. I would gain weight at the drop of a hat. Would easily gain 5 or 6 lbs in a week if I was not careful.

I have been on levoxyl for about 5 weeks and I am sleeping much better, my feet are warm for the first time in years:) and now I need to work on getting rid of the excess weight. I have to go for a blood test next month to see if the dosage needs to be adjusted but I am pleased with the results already.

I heard that happens to a lot of people. That sometimes the tests they are doing read normal, when they really have to take a different type of test for it to show the problem exists. I would be persistent. My aunt had that problem. The tests they were doing were reading normal and then they found that she had an extreme, severe case. I guess I don't understand when you tell a doctor that something is wrong and they can't find the problem, they say you are fine and don't try to get to the bottom of the problem. I guess that's why I still go to a pediatrician. I'm 20, but they still take me because I've been going there my whole life. I just am not ready to change doctors when they do such a good, thorough job, and they baby me while doing it. They really care. Also, I've been having so many problems these past few years that it was never a good time to get up and change right in the middle of everything. (Who am I kidding? I do it for the Snoopy bandaids!) :flower:

(I feel stupid though waiting in the waiting room with toddlers :( )

I have hypo also. Right now mine is way out of whack and driving me nuts! I am on .75 levoxyl, but doubling my dose on Sundays. I don't think it's helping too much yet. Still extremely tired, hair falling out like crazy, mood swings, etc. I don't get my 6 week re-check until next week and it can't come soon enough!

I do have to say that my endo is one of the best! He has patients from all over New England and can't except new patients anymore. He has too many already since there simply aren't many endo docs out there anymore. I just have to be patient while they adjust my dose, I suppose.

Hang in there!

Just diagnosed with hypothyroidism also - about two weeks ago. Had already been going to an endocrinologist for other things and this turned up in the tests she ordered (she is *so* thorough!!! Love her!!!:) ) One of the main things she was concerned about was my cholesterol level - the overall profile was OK, but triglycerides were way high and HDL was low. I am on meds now and have to go back in six weeks for a recheck.

One thing to keep in mind when doctors are ordering thyroid tests - the endocrinologist told me the levels that the labs may list as "normal" may not be. The real experts (endocrinologists)have different guidelines for "normal" - just keep this in mind if your general doctor is ordering the tests. I went back to paperwork for labwork my regular doctor did two years ago and the TSH levels were "normal" according to the lab, but would have been considered elevated if the endo had seen it.

Best of luck to everyone!! :wave2:

My endocrinologist had a great explanation/analogy for 'normal" blood levels.
He said "my father drives at 45 mph. The speed limit is 55, but he is comfortable driving at 45. I drive at 65. The speed limis is 55,but I am comfortable driving at 65. Just because the "normal level" is between thus and so, doesn't mean a person feels good at the same level as another person"
I thought that was a great way to explain it.
I have hashimotos too. Just had a right thyroidlobectomy about 6 weeks ago (had a solid tumor that needed removed). My synthroid has been increased to 125 mcg. I feel better than I used to, but have become more tired the last couple of weeks. I am wondering if it needs to be increased some more. I go back in July for my next checkup and bloodwork.
Tricky thing it is.
