the munchies at night? I'm fine all day long, but at night they just kill me. I can't look at another carrot stick or a pickle! How do you deal with it?

I just visit WISH and my friends help me make it through the night :)

I visit my chocolate freinds to help me make it thru the night

I totally cave. I've heard if you get the munchies, drink a glass of water. I've tried that. That doesn't do anything but make me wish I has something to eat to wash down all that water with.;)

I am craving chocolate right now! I shouldn't be reading this thread! :earseek:

i eat peanut butter flavored rice cakes! they are soooo yummy and they have just enough sweetness to make the munchies go away.

I do sometimes, and I've found out for me, the best thing to do is to eat what I want. I make sure it's a small portion, but it beats eating a dozen other things trying to substitute, and then finally caving and eating what I wanted in the first place.

When I get the munchies I have a hard candy...virtually fat free, only a few calories and they keep my mouth busy for a while. I allow myself one a day. Ive recently found these Baskin Robbins ones that taste just like icecream. Theyre great!

I have to test my blood glucose each night before going to bed, and I like to have 3 hours between that and the last thing I ate, so I don't munch at night any longer. I have been eating a lot "healthier" since I was diagnosed with diabetes last month (20 pounds lost so far!! :teeth) ) and I really don't miss all that "junk food" anymore. I bought Halloween candy and DH has been snitching a few pieces every day, but I haven't touched it and won't!! I am thrilled to finally be losing weight and getting healthy again!!!

NativTxn...GREAT idea! I haven't been over there yet.

Jason...I LOVE your idea the best! ;)

Cute, Cinderella! :)

Shannon...I'm with you on that one! I need something to stop the sloshing in my stomach. ;)

Jenn Lynn...Hang in there!

Worm...I thought you were going to say you eat peanut butter! That's one of my "red light" foods. Can't handle it...LOL! That's something I can't deal with because I go overboard with it. As they told us in Weight Watchers...stay away from your red light foods if they're real problems. They'll still be there. But RICE CAKES, I CANNOT do! Yuck! They're about as appetizing as styrofoam to me. :(

Serena...Your thinking makes sense. And that's something I've done way too often. Ate too many things trying to substitute for what I really want. Then ate it any way.

CamColt...Sounds good! I'm a hopeless gum chewer. I keep Trident in business. ;)

Chatty...Congratulations on the weight loss! I'm headed in that direction myself. Recently got back on the band wagon. And today I fit into my smaller jeans...yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! So long baggy jeans, hello old SMALLER comfy jeans!!! ;) I'm diabetic also. However, my doc has be alternating times of day that I test. One day might be at breakfast, dinner, and bed time snack. The next day might be at lunch, afternoon snack...

What helps me get thru my munchie phase is a glass of chocolate milk!!

I've been through nutrition and psychological counseling about the whole issue of eating for reasons other than real hunger, and I've learned that much of the time it happens as a result of an inbalance in your dietary intake.

If, for example, you've eaten too much protein without any starch, you'll initially have energy but will not sustain the energy for a long period of time. Vegetables and fruits simply keep your digestion on the move and provide needed vitamins for good overall health.

I get the munchies in late afternoon after not eating a balanced meal. The nutritionist said the best answer to that is to keep dried fruit and nut mix in single portions.
