Does anyone else get burnt out on planning?

I, too, am the ultimate planner and enjoy it most of the time. I did find, however, that at about 10 days out (like OP), I had had it up to my eyeballs in planning. So I took a break for a few days and then I got my second wind.

I think it's fine not to plan ADRs, parks, etc. if you are not going at a busy time and have many days. For us, we usually go for four or five days and have a long list of must do rides and parks. So it really does help to plan. And since this past trip was at Christmastime with free dining, we knew we'd be disappointed if we didn't have a good idea of what we were doing.

With that said, we did bob and weave a bit and that worked for us. But the original ADRS I made worked great and we were never waiting to eat (something that I know my family hates!).

I never get tired of planning. :lmao: For me, that's half the fun!! My DD jokes that I get so detailed, that I schedule in bathroom breaks. :rolleyes1 While it's not quite that bad, I really do structure our vacation so we can fit a lot in. And no matter how much the rest of my group lags and doesn't give me any input... after it's over, they always remark on how amazed they are with all that we did, and how it's the best vacation they have ever been on! :cool1: I love  love the planning aspect, so I don't know if I would ever be tired of it! :thumbsup2

I understand. I love to plan, plan, and plan but there comes a point when I am just READY to go and enjoy it! And of course no matter how much I plan, things tend to go astray :)

We book our ADRs at the 180 day mark and then just go with the flow. We actually plan our park days to avoid AM EMH. I don't take park hours into consideration when scheduling ADRs. We buy park hoppers so our dinner plans don't really determine which park on which days. We kinda wake up in the morning & see which park sounds good.

My time here on the Dis varies greatly, depending on my mood. Sometimes I spend hours here for several days in a row then I don't get on here for several days. We love Disney World; it's our favorite vacation destination but I'm not completely obsessed. Not completely, just partially. :thumbsup2

I'm a planner in all I do but I have never spent so much time researching and planning for a vacation as I did our trip to Disney World. I did get pretty burnt out and, now that I'm no longer a newbie, I wouldn't need to spend quite so much time the next time out.

I do. Some how I became the designated planner for all vacations. I do my best to research and find the best rates for hotels, flights and rental cars. When it comes down to the entertainment portion and dining portion of the trip, this is when I start to get burnt out. Especially if I have to make reservations. Everyone leaves it up to me to decide when and where to go. I let them know that this is their vacation as well and a little input is appreciated. Then when I start making decisions, that's when they want to chime in that they don't like that place; or that place is too expensive. For the most part I don't mind, but it does get a little tiring after a while. I just make sure and tell them I don't want to her no complaining when we get there and they don't like what I picked. I remind them they had their chance to speak up. If they don't like it, they can plan the next vacation. I usually don't hear no complaining after that.

Our first five or six trips to WDW I did a lot of planning. I eventually got tired of planning and kind of went with the flow most of the time except for a handful of ADRs (we usually went at a time that wasn't very busy). I found the vacation was much more enjoyable when we didn't have to worry so much about what we were going to do and when we were going to do it.

I do think for people going the first few times, some planning is prudent. I recommend some preparation on what to expect and one of the best ways to do that is with the Birnbaum guide books and talking to others who have been.

OP here...thanks to everyone for their input, it's great to see I'm not the only one that gets a bit burnt out.
I hadnt been on disboards since yesterday and was surprised to see how many responses their was to my thread.
My boss has been driving me crazy, my family has been driving my crazy(parents and in laws) and I was in a car accident last year and have a suspected mild traumatic brain injury (it sounds much more dramatic than it is) but ever since I just dont deal well with stress like I used to. Nothing used to bother me, but I just "need a vacation" and my vacation seems to be turning into work!
Okay I'll quit whining now!
We basically know what park we're going to on which day, have our wishes dessert party booked on my sons birthday, have a few ADR's, have Pirate's League reservations and Pirate Adventure cruises for the kids at the Grand Floridian. I think aside from that we'll just go with the flow and try to avoid the Marathon madness.
Everybody who's going soon, enjoy your trips too.
And Happy New year!
