I feel embarrassed for the servers when they make them parade around and put on a show waving napkins etc.
Also seemed to interrupt the dinner service and distract the servers flow.
Their job is busy enough, if I want a show ill go to the theatre.

Anyone else feel this way or am I getting old and grumpy lol.

they know it comes with the territory. And lots of passengers cheer for them. Personally, I'd rather the waiters didn't do their parades, but I'm a bit of a curmudgeon that way.

Doesn't bother me. If I had a job that I found parts of embarassing to do, I'd probably quit. It's not like DCL is forcing anyone to have that job. They apply for it and accept job offers just like everywhere else. They know what's included in the job.

Do you see the kids faces when they can stand on their chairs and wave their napkins. Priceless!!

Now that I think about it, they didn't do it on our Fantasy cruise in July. They did last year on the Dream though. I thought it was a little silly but whatever.

This!!! ^^^^^^

This is one of my favorite pictures from our 2006 cruise. DD was 6 and her and her friend kept waving their napkins over their head. They were laughing because they kept getting each other with them. We were all actually disappointed that there is no napkin waving or any other type of party type activity in the MDRs on the Fantasy. They don't even do the parade on pirate night.

No. I see it as fun and having a good time. The little kid in me wants to come out and play.

I feel embarrassed for them also. It doesn't bother me, but I guess I project how I would feel onto them. I feel for the few that look like it's embarrassing them, not the others that seem to be into it. With that said, I'm fine with them doing whatever. I like the show.

Most people are happy to be employed and are willing to deal with a few minutes of embarrassment. Quitting isn't a realistic possibility for the majority of people. You don't have to be forced to do something for me to feel for you.

You should see what I have to do at work sometimes! :rotfl2:

Embarrassed..not at all. It's part of "the show".

I've a head server who turned down a promotion to Palo because he loves the family atmosphere in the MDRs, including the parades. He not only called DD a princess every night, he treated her like royalty, too. So no, I'm not embarrassed. I paid for a Disney cruise. Does anyone ask if the people at WDW are embarrassed during their performances? There's a reason why just being in the parks as a CM is called "on stage," as opposed to on specific areas.

If it wasn't on a Disney ship, then maybe. I have known many adults onboard without kids standing in line to have their picture taken with a giant mouse and his friends. ;)

I agree...this is a DISNEY ship. And these people apply for this job and probably get a job description and what is expected of them before they accept or reject it.

If people have issues with 'dancing servers' on DCL, maybe the Disney experiance isn't what they are looking for. It's the goofy, happy, silly, fun, magical stuff that happens at Disney or on a Disney ship that make it stand out and make it special and memorable.

Disney offers a much different setting than other cruise ships. The people who work there should know that they may have to do a little extra 'silly stuff' because that's what makes Disney special and stand out above the rest as far as a family cruise line goes.

If they didn't think that it entertained, DCL probably wouldn't do it...and the workers knew what they were getting into when they started it.

Im an adult that cruises with no kids. I enjoy this. This is what Disney is. Its about being a kid again. Its not having a care in the world. For those 5 minutes all the parents see is their kids smiling and having a ball. Not worrying about the 2nd mortage they took out for this trip or how much their wife speant at Treasure Ketch or She Sells Sea Shells n Everything Else earlier that day! (:rolleyes1 ...usually myself, not my wife). Weve been on a few cruises (not as many as lot of you!) and it seems most of the servers love working for DCL. The pay is better than industry average and there is something to be said to work for a company that strives for customer satisfaction. I wish my employer felt the way Disney does! If you (or the cast members) dont want to do this, go to Palo...which is awesome as well but alas, rant over!

The servers have done this on every cruiseline I've sailed on. It's a part of the job. It has never occurred to me to be embarrassed for the servers. I've been to restaurants where the severs have to dance & sing when certain things happen in the place. You know what the job involves when you take it. Plus, it's a happy thing. The people in the restaurant are happy, why wouldn't the servers be happy? They might get bored of it, but that's true of anything they might have to do on the ship. Why would they be embarrassed?

Not embarrassing exactly but am I the only one who is a little grossed out by everyone waving their dirty napkin in the air? Last cruise our tablemate had a bit of chewed steak that they had discreetly hidden in their napkin. She forgot about it, threw her napkin in the air, and the chewed steak flew through the air and landed on my son's plate! He looked over and said "mom do I still have to finish my food?" We all had a laugh but still ewwwww

 Never ever thought of that! :rotfl2: LOL, makes me kinda

My kids loved cheering our servers on - to cheer the loudest for them when they waved to our table. Never thought of that...

They also do this on RCL, NCL, and CCL, it's all part of the job.

Yep. I've seen it on RCI, HAL, Princess, and HAL. I don't remember if they did it on our Celebrity cruises, as we might have been at the upcharge restaurant.

They did this when we ate at Joe's Crab Shack.
