Does anyone else feel guilty leaving their Pets.....

Yep I feel bad everytime we leave for a weekend, vacation, whatever. Our one bird is out of his cage from the minute I get up in the morning to the minute I go to bed, and when we go away I lock him in his cage. It kills me. And then he won't come to me for about a week after that.

I used to cry when we would leave, but I control it now.

I feel so guilty when I leave him...Needless to say I usually come home with something for my little boy! He is pretty spoiled, but I love to give him all of the attention! I'm fortunate when I'm gone that he can stay at my brother's house with his dog. When I'm gone I always call every day to check on him as well...I wish it were easier for him to travel along with me.

I worry so much when I leave my little Rat Terrier, Chico for vacation. I usually leave him with my mom when we go on vacation.....and he does very well with her....My last trip was to visit my dd.....I left him with my mom even though dh was home, since dh works such wierd hours..I fret about leaving him, even though he loves going to Granny's house..I worry about him getting out of her fence, getting into something toxic at her house, as she doesnt have pets....or getting sick while I am away.....As soon as my flight arrived....dh called me on my cell to tell me that Chico had a seizure, was in the animal ER.....and the vet didnt know what was wrong at this point, but was concerned that it could be serious. After lots of $$ and tests the vet dx him with epilepsy.....He is fine now....The vet said he may never have another problem.....
WE are in the process of planning our summer vacation and I am a wreck about leaving my little guy....

I have a college student that I pay $50 a day to live in our house and continue my spoiled dog program. She even takes him to her house to play with her little brother when she goes to school. I know he absolutely loves her, but I still cry every time we leave him. When we get back he paws at my bag until I open it and give him his present. :teeth:

Yes! My husband... I mean I do an extent, but he is outright... odd LOL.

We go away over night and he wants friends to fed the cats their wet food 2x a day. Now they eat dry food over the wet (they like the gravy thats it).
He also has 90 cat blankets and beds all over the house (Ok maybe not 90 but you know what I mean). The cats rank over me and DS I swear!! :rotfl:

The man drives me crazy. :D

I love my cats but...

I'm sure there are alot of people out there who have to leave their pets for extended periods of time. For vacation, business, visiting a sick relative,exc,exc...
Does anyone else feel guilty? My pets and I share a very close bond and the thought of leaving them for a month is killing me. I know it'll probably be harder on me than on them. The thought of something happening to them while I'm away keeps going thru my mind. I'm positive they will be loved and well taken care of while I'm gone but that does not make it any easier!
Has anyone else had to leave their pets and feel the way I do??
Debbie

I'm torn up about having to leave Prissy, my 3 1/2 year old miniature pinscher behind when my family and I go to WDW for a week in June. While my DS's have gone to friends houses, relatives, and summer camps for up to a month at a time, my dog has NEVER spent the night away from me in 3 1/2 years. Whenever we have gone on vacation we have always booked pet friendly hotels and just taken her with us. I still don't know what we arrangements we are going to do for her while we are away. I don't know how she's going to act / react and I don't know how I'm going to act / react to the separation.

I never knew I would be this goofy over a little 4 pound dog.

I was reading the thread on hermit crabs and this one came up as a "similar" thread. I miss my dog Buster when I go away. I know that he is happy in the boarding kennel. He had spent 6 months at a shelter before we adopted him, and he does like seeing and being with other dogs.

I work p/t but am sometimes away from home for nearly 8 hours. We can't leave Buster out of a crate because he has chewed his way out of the house by gnawing at the side of a window and eventually getting out.

So, I leave a biscuit in the crate with him, and more often or not, when I come home and open the door, he comes out, then goes back in to get the biscuit and eats it. It's little things like that that make me love him.

Bobbi :dog:

It bothers me too. Our oldest cocker is deaf and blind. Any change in his routine is upsetting. We either have my parents come here to take care of the dogs or bring them to my parents' home. Anywhere other than those two places, and he wouldn't be able to cope.

Just a little bit because I know she'll miss us. But OTOH she stays at home and my mother is here with her so I know she's fine. A little bored and sad maybe - but fine. :paw:

Yes, I hate it so much that I am looking for pet friendly rentals for our next vacation!

My goodness, seems I'm in good company here. I HATE leaving my little ones. We have had a petsitter stay with them in the home (we cannot change their routine as my Maltese gets very upset and stressed) and one of the rules is whoever stays with them MUST sleep in the same bed with them. It's all about the routine. You should see the "instruction manual" I leave behind for the lucky sitter...pages and pages of what to do in EVERY possible scenario I can think of, phone numbers directions to the vet, poison control number, emergency number, etc. It's pages long and our sitter was always so appreciative of how we would spell everything out for her. We still call to check in every day though!

My parents just recently stayed with the dogs for a weekend and it worked out great. I still get so sad and depressed when I leave them though, even for WDW. HOwever, we have taken a few vacations with them and those are great too. In fact, as of right now they are preferable...I am just too attached.

I have been a wreck about leaving my boys when we go to Disney in December. We had Maximus (will be 1 year old on Saturday!), and I literally would cry everytime we talked about leaving him at the kennel, even for Disney!! We went to buy dog food one day at our neighborhood pet store and there was Mickey! The sweetest little collie we had seen...so immediately Max had a brother! That is making me feel much better about leaving him. Our vet has a double kennel where they can be together. I am so glad I'm not the only one who worries about this! Maybe we all need a support group! Or we need a DIS kennel, where we know people will love our spoiled children just as much as we do!! :goodvibes

We're leaving a week from Saturday and I'm a bit of a stress case about it. DH's friend is house/dogsitting for us and she loves dogs and is great with them, but I can't help but be anxious and guilty leaving them. That and I'm afraid the house will burn down while we're gone.

DH says I'm not happy unless I worry :rotfl2:

We always feel guilty, especially when Kira (our cat) clings to us 24/7 after we get back from any trip over 1 full day. But there is no other choice than having a friend come over and feed her and the fish everyday and clean out her box. At least she gets to stay home rather than go to a kennel.

Yes, I fret about leaving my little dog while gone on vacation....I usually leave him with my elderly mom. She loves the company, but I am not sure if she is still up to the task this year....so I dont know what I will do when I leave for two weeks in Dec. I guess I will look into a couple of the kennels around here. He usually goes on a hunger strike when I leave....so this is worrisome. The vet tells me not to worry and that he will eat/drink if he gets hungry/thirsty enough. I have seen people on the planes with their dogs but I my boy is right at the legal cabin weight for carryon and I think a flight would stress him as much as the kennel.

we always get someone to stay at our house when we go away to take care of the animals, then while were away thats all i talk about,i wonder how there doing, are they ok,are they eating enough, should we call and see. :paw: Im a worry wort about my animals.

this is me when I have to leave our monster, er I mean dog:

But when I leave my tweety bird its: :worried:

I don't worry about him, because he goes to my parents' house, where he is king of the roost!!!! As a matter-of-fact, I htink he hates it when I come home!!!! ;)

He is getting older now, so I do worry that something will happen to him while we are away. :guilty:
