I was half-watching the Montel show today and there was a segment about a young girl with narcolepsy. The mother was explaining that one of the indications that their daughter had narcolepsy was the fact that when she went to bed, she would begin to dream before she fell asleep. I can't remember the name of the condition but I'm almost positive she said it ONLY appears in people with narcolepsy and that was one of the things that convinced them that their daughter had it.
OK, this is weird because I don't have narcolepsy, but I do this every single night.
The difference is that the girl on the show had very frightening dreams, but mine are rather mundane. It's only been happening for the past 5 years or so and it's definitely weird but it doesn't bother me. In fact, I kind of like it because it lets me know that I'm on my way to falling asleep.
I've heard of people having auditory hallucinations before they fall asleep (called hypnogogic something-or-other), but no so much about the auditory and visual hallucinations (which is basically dreaming while awake). Does anyone else do this or is this just one more thing that makes me weird?
