I was looking into WW online, but I'm unsure about it. It seems like soooo much money!! But I know eventually that the meeting fee would run more than the online fee, and I don't think I could really make the meetings work into my schedule.

Is it any good? Do you feel like you get enough support and motivation? Anyone who used to do the meetings and now does online or vice versa? I did WW in the past but stopped going to meetings and well, you know..

Looking for all thoughts, good and bad, on the WW online program. Thanks!! :goodvibes

I did WW using the online version only. I never attended meetings. I ended up losing 62 pounds and have kept it off!

My favorite feature was being able to log in my points and enter my weight online. It helped keep me focused. That was motivation enough for me. It helped that a couple of coworkers were also on WW (they attended meetings), so we swapped tips and recipes. But, the message boards are really helpful, too!! The only downside to the boards are that they're not search-able, which is really a minus when you're looking for something you remembered seeing on there.

The have a large database of foods, which is nice. But sometimes I wonder if they're biased, because, for example, they have Coke products in their database, but not Pepsi products. And of course, they don't have Lean Cuisines, since they carry their own brand of frozen dinners. But I LOVE the calculators to figure out points for yourself on things that are not in their database. Then there's always other great websites on the net that give you the points for almost everything else that isn't on the WW site!

Other nice features are the articles, recipes, recipe builders (you plug in a recipe with your ingredients and it gives you the point value), menus and the Restaurant points.

2 years later, I still pay my monthly fee, even though I got to my ideal weight a year ago. It's a nice safety net for me (and I've started logging my points to lose those post-holidays pounds).

I was able to get a cheaper monthly rate because I attended 1 meeting. When they give you the intro book, there's a code in there for WW online, and once I logged on I never went back to a meeting!

I think doing the meetings vs. online really depends on the person. I knew I would never have time for meetings and would easily miss them. But doing it online, I could log on whenever I want to. And plus, I tend to do a lot of things online, (read newspapers, DIS boards, banking, etc), so I felt more comfortable with it. A friend of mine who doesn't really use the Internet that much didn't really benefit from the WW online.

I hope all this helps in your decision!! If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask me! I have a soft spot for WW because it really changed my life. I never thought I could go on a diet because the thought of giving up something I really liked eating was out of the question. But I LOVE WW because I didn't have to give up anything. I still had brownie sundaes and deep dish pizza! I just learned how to make better choices and portion control. If anything, the "biggest" adjustment I had to make was to switch from regular to diet soda.

Good luck!

Oh, yeah! Another tip I forgot - If you do decide to do it (online or meetings) have Thursday or Friday as your weigh in day. That way you have your flex points reset and you have em all ready for the weekend! It helps!

I do WW online! I actually like it a lot better than the meetings, because I just don't fit in with the people who go to the meetings. I actually lost a ton of weight on WW online, started meetings to lose more, and then gained it back going to the meetings (everytime I tried to say something they told me I was too young to understand, and I probably wasn't losing weight becuase I was going out with friends to bars too much-- it was pretty bad, not the leaders, but the people that went to the meetings!!)

I'm back on WW online, though to try again, since I know that works for me!

Oh, and I'm on the flex plan!

Oy! That's horrible. You're from my neck of the woods, I hope you didn't go to the one in Parma because that's where I was thinking of going if I did do the meetings. I'd hate it people said that kind of stuff to me, it'd be so discouraging! Glad you had success with the online program though!

And thank you jedi_librarian, that information was awesome! I didn't know about the recipe builder thing, I love that it calculates the points for you!

Nope, not Parma... the problem was, that when I started going to meetings, I had lost a lot of weight, and my weight loss was slowing *drastically*. Since I worked out a lot, I looked a lot thinner then I really was (I was still "overweight" by US government standards). The other ladies were mostly stay at home moms, who always complained that they HAD to have junkfood around for the kids, and it was just too tempting to resist (I never said anything, but I couldn't understand why they couldn't eliminate the junkfood to make the kids healthier too, but that's another issue...).

Anyways, I could never even *mention* my problems losing weight, because they'd take this snotty attitude at me, and tell me that my problem was that I wanted to be too thin, and I lost enough weight already, and I should just accept that and stop complaining because I don't have the problems they do (I'm single, so I don't have to buy junk food :-))

I don't know what their problem was, but there were only a couple meetings I could actually make, and it was the same in both, so I just stopped going. It was weird, because, a lot of us have experienced "discrimination" because we were too heavy, but I felt out of place because I was not heavy enough!!!

EVERYTHING she said!!!! ::yes:: My 2 year anni is next week! :cool1: Can't believe it myself! :faint:

It's the Weigh To Go!!! :hyper: ;)

I just started doing WW online this week. I joined on Monday and selected Friday as my weigh in day. I was so excited for yesterday to enter my weight, but I have to wait until NEXT Friday to enter since I has to be 7 days. However, my weekly Flex Points did start back at 35, so go figure.

Anyway, so far it seems to be working out for me. I like entering everything online and searching for items and recipes. I was a WW member a few times before and I would always stop going when I hit that plateau. :guilty: I knew that I would not always make the evening meetings and could not 100% say I could make the weekly daytime express meeting so I decided to give this a try. Just as long as you are true to entering your points and your weight, I figure you cant really go wrong with it.

Good luck to you!! :)

Thanks everyone!! I talked with my DBF/SO yesterday (we live together) and I mentioned how much I really want to try it and he's very happy to support me (very important since he almost always cooks dinner).

I just have one more question at the moment: is the day you sign up/register the first day you start? If I signed up today can I wait to start until Friday, etc?

You guys are all so inspirational! I'm so excited to start!

That's great!! I think you're really going to like it!!!
You can change your weigh in day on the website. Your weigh in day doesn't have to be the day you sign up.

Good luck with everything!

Okay, one more question before I sign up tomorrow: when you sign up,do they send you stuff? Like the points slider and stuff (do they still do the points slider?) I'm worried that they won't and I won't have anything to take with me to the grocery store to measure points in foods I'm buying!

No, they don't!!! A big disadvantage. They have all their calculators on the online version, but not helpful for when you grocery shop. A friend of mine gave me her extra one. This is another advantage to at least attending 1 meeting. You get some of that intro stuff.

I just wanted to say, Jennifer S, thank you so much for posting about SparkPeople! I joined it last week, and even though I have been over my calories most days, it really makes me think about what I am putting in my mouth. It makes calorie tracking so easy! I have since got my friend to do it, and am trying to get my husband involved too. I like it also because I can put in what I eat for lunch right when I get back to work, so there is no excuse for procrastination. I also really like the points you earn by doing different things. It reallly is a great program.
Thank you so much! :sunny:

You are so welcome. I'm addicted to it. I have been telling all my friends. It's so easy to use. I will use it forever. I have learned so much about nutrition and exercise. I have lost over 5 pounds already.

Good luck to you bigolive 9. Glad I could help

be sure and do a google search for coupon codes. I cant remember ths site but I was looking for coupons for the lean cuisine and saw several for WW online memberships. Do the search it will save you a few bucks. Good luck and hope to see you over there sometime! :earsboy:
