They are a country that can't be trusted or believed. So many of their own people have fled their own country, never to return, not even to visit relatives gain, for fear of being imprisoned or murdered. These people have nothing good to say about the government of Iran and they know first hand what goes on.

Sadly people have to flee their own country for fear of their lives.

No, more people die. As evidenced by 9/11. The Iranians were so terrified of President Reagan that they let the hostages go the day he took office. They knew what was coming if they didn't behave.

Quadaffi and his flippin "Line of Death." :rotfl: Preesident Reagan not only said, "Screw you and your 'Line of Death'", he went over the line and bombed the guy's flippin house. Didn't actually kill him, but got one or more of his kids...and that was that. Quadaffi has behaved himself ever since. On 9/11 he was the first to come out and say, "Not me! I'm not involved! My country supports America."

When they know that screwing with us means they will die, they don't take hostages or come and kill us. Therefore, we don't have to kill them. And NOBODY dies.

When you get weaklings like Presidents Clinton and Bush, you get war.

What do you want to wait for? Mushroom clouds?
You still don't get it do you. All that gung ho, kick their sorry *** BS, is the reason 9/11 happened.

Well, I am presuming that what Billy is saying is that the arrogance factor really urks other countries. It might not be the reason WHY terrorist attrocities happen, but it certainly doesn't help the cause.

Maybe Iran believes that intimidation is the right course of action and that's why they took these soldiers. Let's see, they intimidate the British and then the British can intimidate them back and of course the US can jump right in whether we're asked to or not and with any luck for the warmongers will end up with another war. Sigh... It just never seems to end.

Okay, Iran takes the hostages, but England and the U.S. are the bad guys? What the heck? :confused3

Yes?

Anyway, unfortunately, the Iranians believe their government. Almost had a Deja Vu with the attack on the British embassy. Probably what held them back was the fact that Tony Blair would have attacked.

As for our little war, I don't believe our attack was a mistake. I think the way the occupation has been handled was a mistake, the way the prisons have been handled have been a mistake, but the attack itself, the war itself, at least originally was not a mistake. We had an opportunity to keep the high road, but we lost it. If we had kept it, it might have kept something like this from happening. Its the difference of facing an angry, just warrier and an inept bully. Unfortunately, despite all of the good work many of our troops have done, we end up giving them the other impression.

Really? That's funny. Dawn keeps telling us it's just the Iranian leadership that are the bad guys. She says the Iranian people love us and can't wait to be rid of their repressive government. So which one is it?

Ok, how about "at least 200 people believe their government - or were paid to protest". That work?

Now, it's getting serious.

Every society has their far-right nuts with messianic visions of their place in history. We've got the neo-cons and the Iranians have their version. Quite honestly, I don't think the mullahs or Achmi-whatever had anything to do with detaining the British Marines. I think the nuts took over to deliberately provoke a response from the British and, therefore, the Americans. Now they're kicking it up a notch with the embassy protests.

I remember 1979 very clearly, and if the Iranian government can't control their own factions and events turn out the way they did in 197, it's time to finish the job that should've been finished IN 1979.

I maybe a liberal Democrat, but I have no illusions about these people. The Iranian government has milked the incident for all it's worth. If they want to take it to the next step, let them fight all of us.

From all the posts I have read by you, this seems very hawkish. Am I reading this correctly?

I need the "everybody's lying" selection.

But the Iranians have the Brits regardless of whether they were in Iranian waters or not. Not a nice thing to do. *IF* the Iranians are telling the truth, they should have just escorted them back into Iraqi waters and been done with it.

Ooo, nice to see I can still surprise some here. ;)

You've been reading me all wrong. I'm no dove. I believe there's a time and place where you have to take a stand and fight. My differences with many people here is they think every time is that time.

I maybe a liberal Democrat on some issues, but on others, I'm to the right of Atila the Hun. Watching 1979 unfold the way it did, Iran is one of those issues.

My feelings about diplomacy with Iran is NOT because I think they're wonderful and trustworthy. They're anything but. However, diplomacy buys you time and insight about your enemy. It never hurts to look someone in the eye and have them do the same to you.

I think the Iranian government has been given every opportunity to end this crises. They've taken advantage of none of those opportunities. If they're going to let their nuts control events the way they did in 1979, it maybe time for a response.

I think she was taken over by a bodysnatcher.
