Does anyone actually write letters anymore?

I was in Target the other day (where else would a Target groupie be?) and they had the prettiest stationary. I got some for myself because I love to write letters.
But I wondered in this day of technology if anyone else still writes letters? Or is it all e-mails and other such stuff? :confused3

I honestly don't remember the last time I wrote a letter. I'm a teenager and I've had an email address since I was in 3rd or 4th grade I believe. I never really had to write letters.

Hmmm. I'm sure you don't think this, but in a way I find that a shame. Guess that's the old-fashioned part of me coming out.
I loved writing letters as a kid. And getting them. I love now sending cards and letters on funny or fancy stationary. I like to think that the person getting it is pleasantly surprised to find a handwritten letter in the midst of all the junk mail and bills.

Times they are a changin...... :teeth:

I love writing letters, although I also like the convenience of email. I always have stationery on hand, and I'm one of those goofy, I'll-send-a-card-for-any-occasion kind of people, too.

Our best friends and their three kids moved to West Virginia last spring, and their 14 yr. old son sent me an actual hand-written letter a few weeks ago. I couldn't believe it, because I didn't think that a boy his age actually knew what stamps were for! It was nice to get a real letter for once. :)

:rotfl2: I'm the same way. I've got loads of correspondance cards and random thank you notes ready to send for any small reason. DH's family jokes about it all the time.

I only write letters to my grandma. She doesn't have email. She says I'm the best letter writer in the family; none of the other grandkids ever write her!

I wrote a letter to my grandmother last Wednesday, the night she died.

I typed it in 36 pt font so she could see it.

I wish she were still here. I would write her every day. :guilty:

Not interested. Email is instant, rarely gets lost, you can print it and you don't need stamps.

Just today I mailed a letter DS8 wrote to his great-grandma (and she does have e-mail). It was a birthday gift thank-you letter. He included a half-dozen pics of our Disney trip from last month.

i wrote a lot of letters when my friend was in Iraq...other than that, i dont remember the last time i wrote a letter!

i love writing letters! i have a few friends from college/high school who feel the same, and we continue to keep in touch via snail mail. i find it so much more personal than email, i like that you can throw in a funny newspaper comic or sticker or button or anything you think the recipient might like. i hate corresponding via email - i always feel like i have to write back the second i receive one, even if i have nothing new to say. it's a little too instantaneous for me.

I always send thank you notes or thinking of you cards. Quick and simple, but the fact that its hand written is priceless. I know how excited I get when I get a handwritten note or card in the mail. :hyper: Just seeing something in the mail that is not a bill or junk mail makes my day. I do type, in large font letters to my grandparents.

I never did. I don't even like to send out emails. Too formal for me. It's either IM or I call you if were close. If not you'll get one of my rare christmas cards.

I send cards out for every little thing. I just went to Hallmark and bought a bunch of St. Patricks Day cards to send out. Oh, and stickers too. I love covering my envelopes in stickers like a kid would do.
All the people I send them to like it and one of my friends has her aging mother living with her. She's Chinese and doesn't speak/read English very well, but my friend said her mom loves it when my cards come because of all the stickers I decorate it with. That made me feel good. So, I can't forget the stickers.

DH's family never exchanged cards for any reason, not even on b-days, until I came around and started sending all my cards. Now they are all in the habit of sending cards. HEE HEE HEE It's cool. I did that. :teeth:

I told DH when I die I want my tombstone to say I was The Card Queen. :goodvibes

I love writing letters. I have tons of different stationary too. My sweetie lives close to 80 miles away so I send him letters regularly. Just because. And I have many friends who are stationed over seas and also keep in contact with exchange students who lived with me while I was in college. So I do a fair share of letter writing. An ex boyfriend of mine who is in the Army used to get a letter from me weekly no matter where he was stationed. I actually enjoy writing letters. I know how excited I get when I get "snail" mail from people (not bills) so I hope others feel the same when they get a letter from me.

My dad writes letters. He's 80. Just the other day, I got a nice note with an interesting article he found in the paper. I love it--you're so right, it's great getting a letter instead of bills!

I love to send cards, too. I used to send the nieces & nephews cards for every occasion--when I had 5 or 6 nieces & nephews! Now I have 13, so I don't send for every occasion. But I do try to send them. I remember when I would send my (now) 15 yr old nephews cards--I would write a little note in it, and ask them a question. The next time they would see me, they would answer the question! It was so cute.

You just reminded me--I have to go to the card store. St. Patrick's Day is coming, which also happens to be a friend's birthday. I need cards & stickers! :thumbsup2

I don't write them much, but a friend who lives a couple of hours away is having their Birthday soon, so I'm getting them a card, a pressy...and..writing them a letter!
I'm seeing them in person before then as well, but I'm hoping they still appreciate a letter.

Apart from that, I rarely write letters much at all.

I'm a teen and I love to write letters! Email is ok but I definately prefer to recieve a handwritten letter-much more personal. I usually write letters to my pen-pals who live the the USA and Dubai (I live in England) and to my cousin who also lives in the USA.
