I just wondered if anyone on the boards actually sail. I live near lake Springfield ,Springfield Illinois and I love to sail. I am in a sailing program that is sponsored through a yacht club. I started with Optamists, then went up to sunfish, and now do JY-15's the most. Just wondered what other kinds of boats that other people around the country sail with?

My dad has always had a boat. When I was little, he had a 24 ft Neptune in Monterey Bay and since then, he's gone through a few McGregors and now has a Hunter 36 near Boston. He's spends every weekend on the boat during the summer and we (DH and I) usually go every other weekend or so, while my mom goes one day a weekend.

My last boat was a 27 foot shoal keel Rienell. Nice weekender but alot of work to trailer for a day trip.

I think the most fun I've had was when I sailed a 14 ft lightning hull. Very fast and fun. It was the 2nd sailboat I owned and wish I still had it.

I've also had a couple cats and they can be fun when it's warm enough to be soaked all day.

If you like sailing you must read Zac blog. He's a 17 year old kid out of Southern Cal that's sailing around the world alone. He's almost home (a few more weeks) you should check it out.

Heres your sailing term for the day (I love these) "Hoist the main brace" You know what that is?

Not much anymore, but I grew up sailing on Lake Erie and the Detroit River. My parents had a Catalina 27 when I was really young (they have photos of me literally teething on the mainsheet), and then replaced it with a Catalina 34 when I was about 10. When I was in high school they switched to power boating, but I grew up racing with my dad and taking sailing lessons at our yacht club. In the classes we raced 12 ft. Mistrals, though they got JY-15's a couple years after I left the program. Oh, my dad still has a 12 foot little sunfish type boat, but we haven't played with it in over a decade.

Actually, my screen name is the name of a racing sailboat I was always fond of in my youth.

My favorite sailing term is "Helm's to lee!"
