Does anybody else bird watch in WDW?

I am an avid birder and have seen many "life list " birds while on vacation...

I was wondering if I was alone at this..DW thinks I'm:crazy:

I am sometime turning on the video camera to bird watch...I may lose the "privilege" to carry it.

I thought I was the only bird-watcher in WDW-so glad to meet another one. One day I was almost late for the boat at WL to MK because I was video-taping a bird. And one morning I'm sure people wondered what I was doing as I "stalked" a little bird in Epcot WS. And every year we go to HHI for birdwatching (we're the idiots at the resort with binocculars, always looking up. I apologize if I've run into you). Last year I added 20 life birds there.
And I know West Brookfield-lived in East Brookfield for several years.

very cool

we were late for a PS in epcot 2 years ago because we were watching a bald eagle

although we had seen one before it was cool to see one ther...but everyone stopped to see what we were looking at..and many not being from the U.S. were grateful fo us showing them an American Eagle

any one else out there:earseek:

Well, not formally, but my little ones seem to be in awe of the birds and flowers at WDW -- almost as much as the other stuff! They really epitomize the "stop and smell the flowers" philosophy of life, even at Disney. That just thrills me! I have almost as many photos of them smelling flowers, looking at ducks and birds on Tom Sawyer island and outside the Plaza, etc. as I do of them on rides and meeting characters.

I watch for birds too -- Donald, Daisy, Iago, Zazu ... ;)

I think Disney is perfect for enjoying in so many different ways!!

When I'm there, I always enjoy watching the "wild" animals and think that if I were a bird, squirrel, or rabbit, I'd want to live at Disney World.

Now that I think about it though, I'm a human and I would like to live at Disney World.

I'd really like to see a bald eagle there someday. I've only ever seen one in the wild - it would be such a thrill to see one there.

We saw a bald eagle mixed in with a bunch of vultures on the side of the road near AK last year. Apparently there was something "yummy" in the woods, just of the road. I spotted it as we zipped by in our friend's truck. I made him turn around. It was neat to see such a huge, powerful bird 10 feet away, just standing there.

LOVE this topic...and yes yes YES, we've seen many neat birds at the World. Interesting to see them when you consider how much the area has been built up.

Last winter we rode the boat from the BWV to MGM and flying along side us was a bald eagle! We were quite surprised to see it so comfortable with all the people and noise there.

Other wildlife seems to be in abundance at DisneyWorld too...we've seen deer on many occasions, the last time over by the Boardwalk villas, believe it or not! (by the walkway/bridge over to MGM)

Wow, a bald eagle at WDW! I've never seen one but I confess, I've never looked UP that much at WDW, except to see fireworks.
Did you see it in the WS section?
And for the person who saw it by AK, was it outside (driving distance) or right by AK, walking from bus to entrance?

I don't know if this counts, but as people begin to gather on Main Street for the afternoon parade with french fries from Casey's Corner, I love watching birds steal fries from their containers. The expressions on their faces can be very funny.

I don't know the names of the roads, but the eagle, I believe was on the roadside, between the AKL and the "exit" or "reverse direction" for the AK park entrance. It definitely wasn't anywhere you'd normally walk.

I must confess, I am one of those people who sit on the benches near the popcorn stands at the end of Main Street, near the Partners statue and hand-feed the birds. I know, it is major pet peeve of a lot of people here, but it is fun. :)

The one we saw at Epcot flew from WS over the water and right into a tree at the bridge.

It's kind of a reflex for me to look up when something catches my eye...and there was no mistaking this bird.

We also had an Osprey hang out near our room door @CSR that trip...every morning I would watch it fish while DW was getting ready.

I confess I used to be one of those people who fed the birds at WDW. However, after hearing the horror stories of the poor little kids that were terrorized by agressive birds attacking them (try to visualize Alfred Hitchcocks "The Birds"), I stopped. It sounded like these children would find "Alien Encounter" easy to deal with after some of the bird encounters!

While not usually bird watchers, we really enjoyed the variety and DS has about 25 different photos of birds. I should try to identify them!
