Does AKV smell because of the animals?

I DO understand. My point is that it is a Disney RULE. That doesn't make it a FL LAW and it's therefore certainly not illegal.
What makes smoking illegal in many situations is Florida Statutes, Chapter 386.200, the Florida Indoor Clean Air Act. Click the link, and then click on the specific paragraph links to read the actual statutory language.

You'll find that Florida's Indoor Clean Air Act is very, very restrictive. Smoking is generally prohibited anywhere indoors except residences, smoke shops, and bars which derive less than 10% of their revenue from food sales.

The act provides an out for hotels, in that it allows them to designate specific smoking optional rooms, which is what Disney did until a year or so ago. Disney recently opted to eliminate those smoking optional rooms. Therefore, under Florida Law, it is actually illegal to smoke in any Disney resort room, including on the balcony.

There are a number of designated outside locations in each resort where smoking is permitted, but smoking is not LEGAL inside any building on WDW property (or just about anywhere else in Florida).

I also agree with Rob on one of his points. I would actually hope for a little animal "bouquet," just to let me know they're real.

(Except for alligator scat, which is SERIOUSLY nasty stuff!):sad2:

I have to agree, a little animal odor wouldn't bother me at all, since I would "EXPECT" to have a little of that. I must confirm though, that the only place we smelled any kind of animal odor at all at AKV/AKL was near the flamingo area, and that was pretty minor.

The only unpleasant smell I encountered at AKV emited from the killer attack frogs that came out when the sprinklers came on at night. Walking back from the car to the lobby, a frog jumped on my pants, which made me scream bloody murder, scaring the people behind me to death.

Two porters then came running out, I was a tad embarrased. With the sprinklers turned on, little worms loosen from the dirt and the frogs come out to eat them, not me!

It does smell like wet frog sometimes, at OKW too, but I've never smelled poop there! It's all part of the lush vegetation and wildlife, I love it, not the frogs though, they're creepy.

No animal smell at all. Of course, the great smells coming from Jiko are there. But that is a plus.

When we were there the week of New Year's, there was a horrible smell throughout WDW. We were at AK and thought the smell was from the animals. In fact the CM's said it was the animals and that you eventually get used to it. However we left (because of the smell), went to Mk, and the smell was there too. Left, went back to BWV and the smell was there too! People were covering their noses. The smell was very offensive. The next day the smell was gone. Thank goodness!

We have noticed the campfire smell in the main lobby before and assumed it camp from the cooking areas or the campfire rocks outside. Every resort has some sort of odor I associate with it although it is only the monorail that has a what I would refer to as a smell. Reminds me of a horse stable I grew up near. :faint:

We were also there. That smell was not the animals. Disney uses a natural rather than chemical based compost for fertilization (environmentally friendly) and when spread causes a fairly horific odor for part of the day.

As to the OPs original question, in three trips we have never experienced an animal smell at AKV. Some think it is because they are super diligent at constantly removing animal waste. However, I did an investigation after having a few rum and cokes while sitting on the balcony watching the animals and breathing the odorless air and determined that all the animals are really the latest state of the art animatronic creations. Disney is keeping its new and advanced methods a secret while patent approval is pending.

6 stays...no smell. Savanna view rooms for ever trip, so far.

The ONLY smell we've ever noticed is the one emanating through the lobby....from a combination of Boma's and the fire pit. To us, it smells WONDERFUL.

I have stayed at AKL/AKV 5 times (all savannah view), and have never smelled a thing. And I have a VERY sensitive nose. I'm not saying it's outside the realm of possibility, but it's nothing we've ever experienced in the slightest.

We stayed there in 2006 and no animal smells at all. There was one hallway when we walked down there was definitely a stench. We think there was a plumbing issue going on though. It was not an animal smell but a sewer smell. Hopefully that has been fixed by now. ;)

:rotfl2: They sure are good at it!:lmao:

If you smell anything, it's more likely to be other guests' children.

Our first stay was last month, Savannah view--and there was no animal smell. I'll second the above poster's comment about the firepit and Boma in the lobby. We LOVED THAT!!!

I only hope Kidani has some kind of indoor firepit planned. That was where DH and I ended our days after the kids were in bed!;) We'll really miss that if it's only in Jambo!

Maybe they make the authentic savanna smell for theming? :snooty:

I know that the BC uses smell machines. :goodvibes
