I know that you can still use a GP RO discount even if you have a package but does the same work with the AAA discount? Don't want to waste my time calling if its senseless.

You can get a package with the AAA discount, but I believe you need to book through AAA directly. That used to be the case at least, so I've just always booked with AAA since then. :)

This is correct. You can call Disney directly to book a room only reservation with a AAA discount, but packages must be booked through AAA if you want any type of discount.

If you call Disney direction & book a RO reservation w/AAA discount, can you add dining plan and/or park tickets through Disney?

No, you can't add tickets and dining to a room only reservation. It would need to be rebooked as a package, which must be booked through AAA.

so if I book with Disney directly and get a RO AAA discount can I transfer to a non AAA TA and get a discount on tickets and dining and keep the discount on the room? how would that work? just curious as I am trying to figure out what is going to be the best for a trip we would like to do in April 13th to 19th at AOA ( yes am set on the AOA as son who birthday will be that week has never been to Disney and said if he ever got to go he wanted to stay in the Nemo rooms and since the 2 juniors had before been there already)with family of 5 aged 2 adults and 2 juniors(16 and 15) and 9 year old... any help would be awesome.. thanks :surfweb:

You would not be able to transfer to a non AAA agent and keep the discount. You cannot get tickets and dining with a room only reservation. It would be a package, and a AAA discount on a package must be booked through AAA. Is there a reason you can't book the package through AAA?

No I just hear that some of the perks using a TA vs a AAA TA are better.. but then I hear the room discount you get with AAA is better too.. so i'm just trying to figure out what one will be the more practical approach.. I haven't even talked to our TA or AAA yet am waiting to make sure its a for sure trip we can do in 2014 .. altho I think I might just ask them anyway I just don't want to waist their time if we end up not being able to go till 2015

In my opinion, if a room discount is offered via Disney for your time frame it's always higher than AAA. I think the AAA room discount is around 10% - there are very few resorts/rooms that have a 5% discount.

I haven't seen any exclusive TA perks :confused3 Other than of course having them do the legwork. AAA also took out a few of their package perks for 2014 (preferred seating for fireworks, Belle Storytime).

Just want to mention that the dates you are looking at are Easter/Holiday Season. There are no AAA RO discounts for that time frame from what I was told by AAA and Disney and read on Mousesavers. We are staying 1 night before our cruise during that time frame and could not get the AAA discount.

thank you all for sure I have lot sof planning to do still .. might even have to change dates now tho:confused3  only cuse of some family issues (extremely long story) but thank you for the heads up about the RO discounts not being offered at those times.. heck I am thinking a TA will be way better at this then me for the planning .. and to think last week I was thinking I wanted to be a TA. lol.. nah i'll pass..

A lot of what you are dealing with now are what a good Disney travel agent (whether AAA or not) would be doing FOR you. There is no fee from most TA (some charge a minimal fee depending on what you are needing, but they should always tell you up front).

You pick/determine your budget and your family needs and wants, then turn them loose to find you the best 'vacation experience' possible within those parameters. You can get specific step-by-step touring plan suggestions; explainations of how the FastPass system and the new My Magic+ bands work; special dining reservations can usually be obtained without YOU having to get up early in the morning trying to get through on the general public phone line 180 days out :hippie:; and much more.

Consider how much effort/stress you actually want to invest in the trip, then weigh that out against either a AAA RO discount, possible AAA package discount (remember, some AAA agents are very well versed in Disney, but many are not, so ASK if you decide to go that direction), or using a TA that has been to WDW (or DL, or on DCL) many times and attended Disney Certified training.

It all comes down to 2 things:

1) COST ~ if budget is tight, you need to:
~ move your dates or
~ cut down the length of the trip and/or
~ use PH option and a good tour plan to get the most out of the days you are there and
~ decide what type of meals you want/need to experience (can you get by with having groceries for breakfast and snacks delivered to your room, then do QS meals and share some, perhaps booking 1 or maybe 2 character meals?

2) CONTROL ~ Do you feel the need to:
~ absolutely control every aspect of your vacation planning, or
~ maybe do a bit of dining planning and your own tour planning, or
~ perhaps you'd like to back off entirely and let someone you trust take care of every detail?

It is your family, your vacation, your money and your memories. Give it some thought. Then, if you decide on using an agent, ask your friends who have used a Disney Specific agent (whether AAA or not) to give you references. Otherwise, plan on a lot of phone calls (and long distance fees) and be satisfied with the results of all your personal efforts - which can be a reward in itself.
