Does a smell bring you back?

just thought of another one....
subway started opening branches around my town about 2 years ago.So whnever i feel i need magic i pop in and order a foot long!the smells and tastes really take me back to my 1st trip to Florida when i didn't know what a subway was!!

My family spent the day at Six Flags today (Disney Boot Camp--we leave in 19 days!!!) Every once in a while I'd catch a whiff of something and think "I'll be there soon!" Now, do any of you have any special body aches that remind you of a day in the park? I am dog tired and my feet are killing me!

This is really weird. Just today I told my husband on his way out the door to work,"You smell like Disneyworld". He started wearing a new cologne a few years ago on vacation and now every time he wears it, I'm there. Also, whenever I smell sunscreen it takes me back. 30 MORE DAYS!!!

Ooooo, I'm going to try the Mandarin-Mango!! Terri, we will be at SSR in 1 week!
After I typed this, I went up to my bathroom closest and got out all my old lotions (I save a tiny bit of each bottle) and it's so like being there!

On our last trip, I used the mickey lotion in the room at the Polynesian. I took a few bottles home and everytime I use it, it makes me feel like I'm back at WDW. Its also the same lotion they give out on the DCL, so it makes me think of that too.

I also love the smell of the lobby at the Polynesian.

Walking through the mall on Saturday I caught a wiff of real cold air conditioning ... I don't know what the smell is exactly, I know it when I smell it:)... I turned to my wife and said "Do you know what that smells like?" She just looked at me like I was a moron... I really can't blame her:)... But thw smell reminded me of our first trip.... The gift shop in ASM Toy Story had that same smell... Being it was the end of August beginning of September the ac was always pumping so the smell permiated throughout the lobby and has been engrained into my skull...

The other smell is the smell of the beast... I'll explain... I bought a Tommy Bahama shirt in the Poly that had this funk on it... I thought it must have been the shop that caused the funk... The schtank was so bad I had to get my shirt dry cleaned 3 times before the beast left! I was looking to buy another Tommy Bahama shirt this weekend and I came to the realization that it must be the wooden hangers they supply to the store's to use that stink and not the store itself... The wooden hangers have this nasty funk that can't be explained... When I walked into the Tommy Bahama area I just smelled it the beast migrated north... Brought me right back to my honeymoon:)... A bad smell but good memories...

Everytime I take the cat to the vet... The smell takes me back to 74, 76 and 78 when our favorite pet spent his Disney vacation in the Disney kennel. ;)

Sometimes when the rain has sprinkled just enough to cause a musty smell, it will remind me of the Pirates of the Carribean at Disneyland. The interior of that ride has such a distinct smell. It will be fun to see if the WDW version of the ride smells the same as its Disneyland counterpart.

I think the WDW POTC will most likely smell the same, because as soon as I read your post I could immediately smell what you were talking about! (Is that possible?) I can't think of anything specific at the moment but so many times I find myself asking someone in my family "doesn't that smell remind you of Disney World?" :flower:

I am so glad that it's not just me! I am going to have to try the BBW-new-smell-for-every-trip idea! I'll also have to let my best Disney buddy in on it, we can coordinate for our June trip!

On our last trip (Dec 2004) I had packed some face cream that I thought was also a sunscreen, but it wasn't. So we went to the store and while I was there I bought some new stuff (Clean&Clear Morning Burst something or other with SPF15 that gives you a glow after using it). Now everytime I use it I thnk of WDW and SSR. It's a wonderful thing to have something at home that can take you instantly somewhere else!

SSR is great! Very calming and beautiful with a upstate New York horse theme. I would think something musty/spicy would work well. Now I have to go to BBW!

How about the smell from queing for Splash Mountain? I was bleaching some old fence boards for a project and that smell was identical....the sort of wet, board with a litttle chlorine mixed in. I made my son smell it to see what I was talking about. Love it!!

A couple of times this past winter when we turned on the car heater my son and I remarked how it smelled like DW- you know that smell of greased engines, etc..like spaceship earth, great movie ride.

The smell of new merchandise- yum!! I used to work at the disney store and that smell is stuck in my brain-

You are not alone in your smells madness! There is actually quite a bit of research on smells being a huge connection to memories...and what better memory can you have than that of WDW!!!

 :goodvibes NONE!

The last time I was in New Orleans, I smelled POTC in a lot of alleys and open shops. I have to say it took me right to WDW/DL, and it was a LOT better than some of the other things I was smelling on Bourbon Street. :teeth:

The last time we visited the World, my Mom brought along a new perfume. I did not like it and I could smell it all day. :guilty: But now everytime I see her and she is wearing it, I'm back at Disney. :teeth:

Sometimes in the summer when it's a really humid night right after it gets done raining brings me right back to walking to dock at WL to get the boat to MK. Also, a certain charcoal reminds me just of Florida in general because it's the only kind my Uncle Dave uses. I'm just on the look out (or maybe smell? out) for something that's just like the musty smell of Pirates, Splash, and that one part in Big Thunder when you're up over the hot springs.

I found a sight that reminds me of MK! There's a plaque on the ground that says "1742" at my college, Moravian, and it's in the same red color as the pavements! I just noticed it about two weeks ago and I was about to drop to the ground and kiss it. But I thought better of it.

For us, the scent is that of our sunscreen. We only use a particular brand at Disney, so anytime we smell it we are taken back!

Funny enough my perfume. The Canandian pavillion at Epcot is the only place I can get it (without ordering it from Canada!) Its Roots for Women. The first time I wore it was the night my husband proposed to me. We had dinner at Le Cellier and then took a stroll down to the lighthouse at Y & B club. Under the stars and with the company of some very fine ducks he changed my life. :lovestruc I have to stock up everytime we go. I love memories! I agree with everyone else about the pavement smell too! Sometimes that is the only thing that gets me through my morning run.

Way back in High School Theatre class we learned how to use "sense memory". I think this is what is happening to all of us. :teacher:

Stacy, I had the same experience recently! We were on vacation in Colorado and ate dinner at a local restaurant. I went to the restroom to wash my hands and the air freshener they had was exactly the same as one of the restrooms at Epcot. As soon as I walked in the door I thought "Epcot!" I can't remember which country it is (may be all of them, I'm not sure), but when I got back to the table I told my DH and he thought I was crazy! I begged him to go in the men's and see if he "recognized" the scent, but he wouldn't.

Do you think I need to seek psychiatric help?

Well, I guess I need to seek help too!
I love the smell of spaceship earth in EPCOT-especially that smoke smell! It reminds me of the first time I rode it when I was 12yr old and in such amazement of the whole ride that was inside of a huge ball that it brings back so many memories. When I get a small hint of that smell i immediately think of spaceship earth! Unreal how Disney World has touched my life or my nose I should say! :flower:

I am def gonna agree with the wet asphalt walmart smell and DIESEL!

God if I get behind a work truck all I wanna do is be in Disney World!

it would have to be popcorn. I smell popcorn and I think I am walking down Main Street. I love going to a theater just so I can smell the popcorn and let it take me back. :goodvibes
