Documentation needed when checking in

Hi everyone,

Well, this is my first question so here goes! My Mum and I are from the UK and are taking our first ever (Disney or otherwise) cruise on the 1st May Wonder.

I seem to have read conflicting information about what id you need when checking in at the terminal. I'm sure I read somewhere that you have to leave your passport at the terminal but surely this can't be the case? For a start I would then be unable to prove my age (I'm 25 but frequently get asked for id at bars in WDW). What about disembarking at Nassau, do you not have to show your passport then?

Can anyone help clear this up for me?

Thanks,

Jen

Maybe I can clear this up for you. When checking in, you show your passport. They do not keep it. I think what you may have read is that you then should leave your passport in your stateroom. There really isn't a need to bring it out on port days. Unless you are using your passport as your id in a bar in Nassau, I would suggest you leave it in your stateroom safe.

I hope this helps.

Hi, Jen

We're from Canada so our check-in situation is similar. Disney DOES hold your passport for the duration of the cruise if you are NOT American. You are given a receipt for it and get them back when you go to Immigration at 6 am on the final morning of your cruise.

You need to bring a second piece of photo ID other than your passport for getting on/off the ship in port. We've always used our drivers' licenses (with photos) as ID for this purpose. That second ID will need to be used as proof of age as well at bars in Nassau.

Enjoy your first cruise!!!

Yes, they will keep your passports and return them to you at the end of the cruise. Be sure to make copies of the passports and keep those. I understand some residents of the UK do not posess photo licenses. You may want to go and get a new one or get some other form of a gov't issued photo id to be safe.

Wow everyone, thanks for the quick responses! I'm really surprised that Disney will be keeping our passports, I guess I'll just have to go with the flow but I'm gonna feel somewhat uncomfortable being abroad without them.

I'll definitely take photocopies of them before I go and take our drivers licenses with us too (luckily we've both just got new ones with photos on).

Thanks for the info though, I'm definitely finding this forum invaluable!

We are from England also and find it very srange and wonder why they want our passports to keep. Feel we should be able to retain these as you also need them sometimes for cashing travellers cheques. We do not have photo driving licences and really do not feel we should go to the expense of that.
Does anyone know why they keep our passports as also like to keep mine in my possession.
