Doctor Who Dicussion *Episode Guide on Post 27! Warning: Contains Spoilers*

Well, Congrats if you liked that episode, but I don't like it personally. Again, I think with the series winding down, the quality of the episodes maybe slipping.

I thought episodes 1-8 were reasonably good, but when we got to the Satan Pit everything seemed to slip a little.. Oh well, perhaps 2012 Olympics maybe good, and then we have the finale to watch over.

The low point of the series for me was the Cybermen. I was always a great fan of those. This series they were too easy to defeat, their "catchphrase" "eradicate them" was changed to a weak "delete" (tinny word for all those Monty Python fans) and they appeared more like a dalek on legs with a flashing mouth instead when they speak.

Yesterday's episode required a lot of attention as there was a lot of dialogue as opposed to "let's blast the !*!* out of each other." It was also a pleasant aside to see the Doctor through another character's eyes.

With regards to the series winding down...I don't think so. The general phases a series goes through is "Bang! let's grab the audience, now let's do something a little more interesting / different, followed by Bang! let's leave the audience begging for more". If you finish a series weakly, the audience will not return.

I didn't like the episode with Peter Kay. It just seemed like a really indulgent episode where they were enjoying themselves rather than being entertaining. It didn't work for us at all. I did like the Satan pit episodes though.

I have to say Peter Kay is one of my all time fave comedians and I was really looking forward to last nights episode. The whole family have loved the new series of Dr Who, initially with Christopher Eccleston and now David Tennant but last night was a disaster. The Dr was hardly in there at all. We felt like it was a cross between a really bad 60's B movie and a Peter Kay sketch. Some of his dialogue was a little funny, but nothing blended at all. All in all we were really disappointed.

Kay

They had some challenges last night, firstly with extended filming now with an 60 mins Christmas programme they had to do an episode where the Doc and Rose were not in it much as they had too many commitments for the rest of the series filming, also the Monster was devised by a Blue Peter viewer.

It was a new idea to look at the DW experience from another point of view and worth a try.

I would say I was disappointed for the first half of the programme I kept feeling I was watching Hustle for obvious reasons. The talking to a video camera was a bit cheap and the meetings whilst setting the scene well lasted far too long, with the ELO bits and band it dragged on a lot.

As soon as Peter Kay turned up and Jackie was there it became 'satisfactory' to watch but still below these series 'par'.

The jokes whilst good did go a bit too far, the Doc and Rose running back and forth with the monster and water reminded me more of Chucklevision and the chuckle brothers to me too you, rather than Doctor who, The joke about Rose having a go about upsetting her mum rather than sorting out the monster was good though.

In the end and with the reasons at the start they just got away with it in my mind but should try to avoid this next season.

News of the world reports that Captain Jack is back at the start of Series three, after the loss of Rose, a familiar face is required, he will be in the spin off during September first though.

PS note the time of post, usually I watch the repeat on BBC 3 as well at 7pm Sundays, but it wasnt worth it this time, but i will watch the 7pm repeats on BBC this week.

Let's hope they make all future serials like that. :)

On another note, I have gotten my Classic Who episode prepared. It's "Planet of the Giants" if anyone wants to know. :)

To put together 13 x 45 mins shows and one extra 60 mins Christmas specail on these production standards means they cannot do everything, the actors do not want to have their whole life being DW. Star trek did this often I remember a few episodes, one, Cammader Riker in a coma and they played back past clips to stimulate his mind, cheap TV.

It was different and a new look at the Doctor through different eyes.

I would say as a one off 'well done, nearly worked'. Now you have done it, do not do it again. Maybe next year at this time, freeze the doctor for most of the episode and get Captin Jack to do everything and resuce him at the end!

I didn't like this episode at all. In fact, I think it is the worst episode of DW I have ever seen. I take your point, Andrew, about them having a tight schedule, but for me the worst thing about this episode was that it just wasn't believeable. I think anything like this has to be believeable in the realms of the world that has been created and this just wasn't. Why did they all start working for Peter Kay? Why didn't they question his ability to turn up and switch the electric on and off? And why did Ursula's head end up on a slate? (In fact, I know the answer to that - it was so they could make a cheap joke).

Nope, very disappointed. Also sad to hear that Billie is leaving, I think she is great, but can't wait for the reappearance of Captain Jack.

Yes parts of chucklevison good point on the electric, plus the couple got a thing on, the lady gets absorbed but he leaves it to the next week for the monster to say she left, if he fancied her surley he would phone or text?

How do you feed a head on a slate, breath etc? Yes poor joke about the 'sex life of sorts, Come on doctor you could have brought her back?

You got to admit though, it was cool how they did that! It maybe a lame episode, but at least the production values were good. :)

Anyone notice that there were parts on Ursula's/Skinner's/Bridgets face where they missed a spot of green? I noticed that Ursula's nose missed a bit of Greening. :lmao:

Cant understand why her glasses stayed on after being swallowed up?

Saw the coronation one last night for the first time that was very good, at least one good one this week!

Saw a trail for Saturdays show with Rose being attacked by what looked like a black ball of string, maybe a giant 'doddle' by a pen, inside someones garage!!

Doc running up behind her to help with the sonic!

Send for a gaint rubber! No smutty jokes please this is a childrens show.

ALSO

The Doctor lets slip a very big secret!!!!!! (Maybe Wembley is finished by 2012).

Where is everyone?

DW squeezed in between world cup today on BBC1.

The Doctor said he thought England won Sundays game, last time he was there, lets see if he remembered correctly tommorrow. Not saying what he said about next Saturdays match though????

Watched SATAN pit again last night, noticed a bit more the line when the 'satan' says ROSE will die in battle very soon, and she asks the Doctor again at the end what that ment and he said do not worry! Two more Saturdays and shes gone!!

that doctor who was kinda scary and strange... and the game is annoying me!! it's not hard they've just got barney singing the kookubara song chloe was singing...

Must be watching Germany!

LOL, as if! :teeth: Sorry about the lack of posting; so busy living I forgot all about the DIS. ;)

This episode ROCKED! My wish came true; we had a good ep! And the cliffhanger at the end sealed the deal too! To top it all off, the game isn't bugged, and is relatively easy!

My bro pointed out that there is a brief moment where a man is killed by inverted colour bit. That MUST mean that it's a three way battle; ghosts (hope it's Ghelfs), Daleks and Cybers! I think they maybe coming through different parrell universes (e.g. the cyber universe we saw; the Ghelfs domain; a universe where Daleks are in control.)

That would explain the whole eastenders crossover. :) Oh MAN am I excited! I am so happy I wish I could wet my pants! (but don't think I'll try though.. ;) )

Nice to see you post again, and Germany won!

Tonight's one was very good, nice to hear Huw Edwards still working for the BBC in 2012, I thought he would be on CNN by then, and for all those in last weeks story they must have pointed at the screen and say its the Doctor again lighting up the Olympic flame.

My take on next weeks is as I posted a few weeks back. It follows last years series a lot. Last year, BAD WOLF (this year TORCHWOOD) Last year one DALEK part then back for the two parter, This year CYBERS albeit two parts, then back at the end two, Think BBC/COST, and also Children's Christmas toys in production, nice little Cybers for Christmas this year.

Mickey, how do you bring him back? How does Rose go? Clues in the OOD, Satan says you will die soon in a big battle.

So TORCHWOOD does something that opens up a gap in time and the Cybers come through from where Mickey currently is, possible Mickey might save the day again? Possible Rose goes back with him this time after missing him. CUE Cybers again.

Now its pushing it a bit to have Eastenders linked when Dens former wife is at Torchwood??

We saw Torchwood taking the Tardis away from the Doctor, looks like they have turned on him, all started by Queen Victoria, but doesn't UNIT remember how much the Doctor helped in the past?

Last thoughts, so, Daleks Sr1, Cybers Sr2, who will it be in 2007 for the middle one and the last two parter, Over to you THE MASTER.
